Let’s say you’ve got a personal service business in some way, shape or form, and you basically have to be there in order for the service to be provided. If you’re not there, your service isn’t provided and you don’t get paid. What do you do when you want to move away from making a living to making prosperity?

There’s only one word you need to know: “leverage.”

The definition of leverage is simply doing more with less. There is less of your effort but more income, more value and more energy being put out, but you’re not the one necessarily putting out all of the energy.

You need to systemize your business so someone else can do it while you’re away, but that’s only one option for leverage, isn’t it? Leverage comes in other people, in using technology, and in other ways of delivering your service, a portion of your service, or a likeness of your service without you having to be there.

The most intelligent thing I ever did in my entire life was set up all of my courses and trainings in a way that someone else could do them. I wrote the book (Secrets of the Millionaire Mind), and everybody wants to come see Harv. That’s true, but it’s not true 100% of the time.

You think that people are coming to see you as the rock star, right? You don’t see how they won’t want to see anyone else, but that’s not true. They want the value, not necessarily you.

They want their problem solved. They really don’t care about whether it’s you, Joe, Bob, Sue or Phil. If Phil can do just as good a job if not better than you, they’ll take Phil.

It’s time to get off the high horse. I had to do the same thing. Yes, I think I could do the best job. I only do two or three seminars a year now just to open up new countries. When I teach at one of my seminars the sales are 20% to 30% higher.

Guess what? I do two or three a year, yet there are over 250 of my courses going on. Can you imagine? That means there are about 200,000 people getting value without me being there.

There is no way I would be able to do 250 courses over a few year period of time. So yes, initially your sales might be lower without you, however, once you are able to leverage other people, technology or any other leverage points in your business you now have a real chance of scalability.

If you systemize and leverage your business properly, you will get rich. If you don’t, you will earn a living. It’s as simple as that. Obviously there are expectations to every rule but having almost 2 million students worldwide I get to see what works for 99% of them and what doesn’t.

Leverage works. And one who says different is either broke or is stuck on their high horse and will never get off it.

You could make a fortune teaching people how to do what you do.

Why don’t you put out a product? Products that give a similar or different value to you are the greatest invention on Earth because you don’t have to be there for your value to be delivered.

I think right now I have somewhere around 1.73 million books sold. All of these people have gotten the value out of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind without me being there.

I don’t make a killing or a fortune on them, though. If I printed every book myself and sold every book myself on the street corner, I would make $20 a book, but I don’t. Do you know how much I make? I make about $2 per book. That’s about it. Can you multiply $2 by 1.7 million? I think that’s pretty decent, don’t you?

You may say, “Harv, I’m not you.” No, but maybe you’re better than me at it!

Get a little creative. It’s not about you. It’s about your value. Remember, people pay to have their problem solved. If you can solve it, great. If you can’t solve it, they’ll go to somebody else. You can still solve their problem without you having to be there all of the time, can’t you? Put on your thinking cap.

And a great place to get the creative juices flowing is with me on my web class Zero To Mutlimillionaire. Hint: we may even be covering the topic of “leverage” on this class.

Let’s consider motivation.

Imagine you’re in a hole that you can barely see out of. Somebody comes along and instead of pulling you out, they wave a $100 bill at you (They’re not being mean; they’re trying to teach you something).

It’s a little hard to get out, but out of determination, or whatever it is that fuels you, and with a little extra effort, you eventually scramble out.

Now take this picture to another level. What if it was a $1,000 dollars? You’d scramble even harder, yes?

Now what if it was a $1 million dollars that is being held up in front of you, and they said, “If you can get out of there in the next 10 seconds, you’ve got this $1 million?”

You’d fly outta that ditch, wouldn’t you? Why? It’s because you’ve got a good reason.

And to be clear, the reason isn’t the million dollars itself. Those are just pieces of paper. Because somebody who had no idea what money meant would do what with it? Burn it to get kindling going? Blow their nose with it?

The reason you are motivated to get out of the ditch is because you know exactly what you could do with that million dollars.

You know the impact it can make on your life…

You know what security it can bring…

And you know the status and freedom it may bring…

So this brings me to the point of all of this…

What is your purpose for what you want?

In other words, why do you want to do what you want to do? Is it for your family? To prove something? So you don’t have to answer to a boss anymore? Because owning a yacht and travelling the world sounds fun? Be honest!
I’ll use myself as an example. When I was broke, it would be easy to get stuck because I would be very upset with what was going on. I was disappointed in myself. There were all of these “shoulds” and expectations. It was draining.

I had 12 businesses and 14 different jobs. Why would I keep getting back on the horse every time I kept falling off and getting slapped in the face?

It’s because at the time there were two things driving me. First was my value of freedom. I could not bear to think that I would have to be slaving away for the rest of my life in a job working for somebody else. I’m just unemployable. It cannot work for me at all.

The second driver wasn’t exactly an enlightened kind of purpose, but it was proving myself. I was attempting to prove to my parents that I was okay, that I was not going to be a bum because that’s what they said I was going to be if I didn’t finish school. That drove me, and I kept getting up when I didn’t want to get up.

I always say that I think I’m a decent teacher because I was in such rough shape before, and I’m in really good shape now. I really know the difference between what I did then and what I do now.

It was making a decision to work on myself, to train my mind and to finally say, “This next business is going to work, and I am going to stick with it until it does, even if it takes my entire life. I will make it work, and it’s going to work.”

One of my most important values became commitment. My word became LAW, there was no breaking it.

I did what I said I would do, period end of story, no excuses EVER.

That was the difference maker that took my “why’s” to another level.

That was the first time I ever said that after 12 businesses. Do you know what happened? In two and a half years, I become a millionaire.

Why you do what you do is the fuel that will get your ass outta bed every day to do better, be better, and to avoid getting stuck.

Never forget why you’re doing what you’re doing, and you’ll eventually get there.

What’s most important to you? What is it, deep down in your soul, that’s more important to you than money? Is it honesty? Integrity? Compassion? Keeping family together? What is it that, if you compromised this aspect of yourself, you’d have a harder time looking at yourself in the mirror?

Again, let’s be real with each other! It’s not about right or wrong; it’s about what serves and what doesn’t. What’s the fuel that keeps your engine pumping? Share your thoughts with us…we want to hear from you!!!

For Your Freedom,

I think more than a few of us have experienced bits of Murphy’s Law…that as things start to improve in your life, chaos and craziness starts to occur, yes?

Most people will have that go through.

Why is that? What’s happening?

Well, it comes down to everything being energy.

As you’re changing and improving your life you are moving from an old habit of energy at one level of vibration into a completely new and different level of vibration.

It’s a different looking energy.

There’s a resonance between those two energies, and the separation between the new and the old, the space in-between, is unusual and often uncomfortable.

And you’re not just going to drop the old energy overnight. It doesn’t happen that way. It doesn’t even happen in a week or a month. The old energy patterns are still there, and it’s easy to get back to them.

It’s perfectly normal. You’ve shaken things up. But even more fundamental than that: if you have no chaos in your life, you might as well be dead. You’re flat lining. You’re so freaking normal and boring that you’re not growing.

If you have no chaos in your life, you are not growing because growth means chaos.

About once a month I have this thought that goes in my head. The thought is, “Take a deep breath, Harv, because it’s coming.” I’m not installing anything negative, but I know chaos is coming.

Every single time I start the Wizard pattern, stuff comes up and says, “Really? You think you’re a Wizard? Watch this, and see how good you are now, buddy.” It’s like a test, and I know it’s coming.

I used to be pissed off about it. I used to stay away from trying to live in a Wizard mentality because I didn’t want it to happen, but now I say, “It’s just proof that I’m growing.”

The test says, “If you think you’re a good hitter in baseball, I’m going to stop throwing you underhand lobs and I’m going to start throwing you overhand pitches. Then I’m going to start throwing faster and faster, and maybe one day you’ll get into the big leagues.”

Nobody’s telling you that you have to get rich. Nobody’s telling you that you have to be super happy. Nobody’s telling you that you have to be the best person. Nobody is saying that—only you. Do you want it? Then guess what: Chaos comes with it.

Before order comes chaos. Every time you are reordering, you will go through the process called chaos. Chaos is good. Confusion is part of chaos. You have shaken up the energy. Keep going, keep doing it, and do not give up. Keep shaking it up.

Then what’s going to happen? You’re going to come to a new resonance, a new energy. You’re going to get to a new order. Good for you, but then guess what’s going to happen? You get stuck there unless you go for something bigger, better, higher and faster. Then what? Chaos!

You’ve got to get this mantra into your bones: I love chaos.

That’s the Wizard’s principle. “I am comfortable with chaos, ambiguity and the unknown.”

You see, it’s just your little monkey mind that wants to know every single thing, how it’s going to turn out, and have everything in order and in control. It’s just fear, but it’s okay. It’s a state of your mind. You can change that.

Say, “Thank you for sharing. This is a good thing. Just chill out and everything will be fine. Let’s keep going.” That’s it. Some crazy shit may happen to you, but take a nice, deep breath and keep going because at one point in time you’re going to get to a new place.

When you get to that new place, you’re still going to be rough around the edges, but you’re going to be at a Level 8 instead of a Level 5. That’s a different game. Keep playing.

We welcome you to share your stories of order out of chaos, growth and change from stagnation and boredom. You never know how your experiences can have a remarkable impact on others. We want to hear from you!

For Your Freedom,

I get asked a lot about passion. Lots of people simply don’t know what their passions are; what it is that they’re most passionate about.

Just keep this in mind: Opportunity lies where your pleasure, passion or skill intersects with other people’s pain or problem.

“Great, Harv, thanks, but what the heck does that mean?”

I’m saying that if you find yourself having this problem of trying to figure out what your passion is, approach it from the opposite direction. Instead of asking, “What’s my passion,” ask, “How can I help people?”

Here’s another question: “How would I love to help people?”

I remember talking about this exact thing in our program. When I would talk to somebody in the front I would say, “How can you help?” They would say, “By sharing landscaping ideas.” Then I would go to the next person and say, “How can you help?” They would say, “By taking people on underwater tours.”

I would ask someone else…“By showing people how to use a computer.”

“…by fixing their little radios and things like that. I’m great with my hands.”

It was like … in a second, they just came up with answers. It’s because it’s a spiritual connection. The way that you can really help people generally is what you’re passionate about, but we tend to put this big charge on the word passion.

Do you think you can help people in an area you have no interest in? Of course not, so stop asking the question “What’s my passion?” and start putting your energy and focus on other people and helping them.

I’ve had people ask me to help them find their passion and then create a business around it. What do you think the business is going to be, your passion? No! The business is not your passion.

The business is the value you give to others, and they pay you for it. The business is the problem you’re solving for them. The business is the pain that’s being alleviated by you.

I teach success. Why? I think that’s my purpose in life. Why? I wanted to be successful, but I had such a hard time with success. I had so many problems around it, so many crappy feelings, and so many issues that challenged me in my life. The day I was able to overcome those challenges and feelings I felt like it was my duty to help others.

The question is: did the chicken or the egg come first? What happened? Was it that this was my destiny all the time, to teach success, so I had to go through all of the crap for all of those years so I could teach it better? Or, did I go through all of that crap and from that problem I overcame it, and that became my purpose? I don’t know, and quite frankly, I don’t care.

I do know this: they seem to have coincided somehow–opportunity resided where my skill and learnings intersected with other people’s problems with success. The biggest challenge I had when I was young turned out to be my greatest gift and the way I can help people the best.

Thank God that when I started becoming more successful I loved writing all of the courses. I loved writing my Warrior and Wizard programs and Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind book, but the one that was surprising to me to write, and that I couldn’t believe how much I was enjoying, was Life Directions. It was almost like it was it was just coming through me.

In this case, the passion came after the decision that this was how I was going to help people. Maybe it’ll be the other way around for you. Very often if you’re having a hard time finding a direction, when you do find it, that might be your gift.

So just keep these two things in mind every time you’re worried about finding your passion:

1. Step outside of that thinking for a moment and consider how it is you can best help others.

2. If you’re stuck even with that question, consider what challenges in life you are or have been hell-bent on overcoming. There’s certainly passion in that!

Tell us what’s on your mind. What are some challenges that you’ve overcome in your life, or are trying to overcome? How could you translate that into a business? Or how did you translate that into success? We want to hear from you!
