A question I frequently get asked by students from around the world that is so simple, yet very powerful is:

How do I go from being unmotivated to motivated?

The answer always boils down to only three letters and one word: Why?

Many people are unmotivated because they don’t have a why that resonates with them. They don’t have a REASON for being motivated. In other words, un-motivation is kind of an inertia.

The law of momentum states that a body in motion will tend to remain in motion and a body at rest will tend to remain at rest unless acted upon by an outside force.

This means you’ve got to get yourself moving in the direction you want! And that’s why you’ve got to have your why. You’ need to have your reason for why you want to do what you’re thinking of doing.

This can relate to wealth, health, relationships, moving cities, and changing jobs; it could be about anything, but the bottom line is you’ve got to have a why.

Jim Rohn once said, “The bigger the why, the easier the how”, meaning that if we have a good enough reason or a good enough purpose for doing something, the how will come. You’ll get it done and it doesn’t have to make sense.

There’s a story I once heard about a slender woman who was driving with her son. Something happened with the tire and when the son was trying to fix it, the jack fell and it pinned him under the car. He was losing his life and somehow this woman lifted up that corner of the car for him to get out. How crazy is that?

Scientists have done research on this because of the extreme creative ability that we have to recreate ourselves in times of need. In that case, it was the why or the reason.

Miracles can happen when you have a big enough why. Why is whatever you want important for you? Why is money important for you? Why is wealth important to you? Why is freedom important to you?

People ask me this question all the time. They say, “Harv, you went through so much struggle early on in your career. Why didn’t you give up?”

The answer is because I had a bigger why than any struggle that I could entertain or have come over me. My why, although not overly enlightened, was very simple: I needed to prove something to my parents.

I needed to prove that they were wrong when they told me I’d never amount to anything and that I’d be broke and begging them for money.

Again, it’s not enlightenment because it’s coming from fear. Once I started getting a little bit of a base of security in the financial element, though, my why turned into something different.

I wanted to be able to do what I wanted with my time, my energy and my life. I didn’t want to have to be beholden to anyone or anything and I just wanted to be free.

All I wanted was freedom, so that became my why. Then I became fully financially free.

Let me give you one more clue here about your why, because it’s one of the most important things you can ever do. First, your why should have two sides to it. First is you. What is this doing for you? Why for you? Second, your why has to be bigger than you.

It’s why for yourself and then why for something bigger than you, whether it’s your community, your country, your team, your office or the people in your business, a charity or a wellness situation.

If you have those two why’s, one for yourself and one to help others or the world, you’ll be motivated.

Without a why, you will be unmotivated. It’s as simple as that.

The question is what is your why? Why do you do what you do? Why do you want to be successful? Why do you want a great relationship with your family, friends, or significant other? Why do you want freedom? Leave me a comment below, I would love to hear from you!

In normal conversations when we use the word “balance,” we tend to think of balance being an even distribution. And in many cases, this is correct.

But when it comes to your life or your business or career, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

I want you to say this phrase out loud: “Balance means equal attention given to both or to all…” Then I want you to say it again and REMOVE the word “equal” because having equal attention in ALL things cannot and DOES NOT work in anyone’s life… including yours.

So if balance doesn’t work in equal proportions, then how does it work?

Well, last week in our lesson we talked a lot about the 80/20 rule or the Pareto principle. It says 20% of your activities will create 80% of your results. Which means that 80% of what you do is wasted as far as the results you want are concerned. Watch this video to learn more about it.

So what do you do?

The first thing you must do is prioritize. You have to say, “What do I do that is productive, makes money and gives me joy?” The reality is most of our time is usually spent on frivolous, crappy stuff that doesn’t create real results.

Sometimes if I’m not careful, I can be on my emails for four hours because I’m curious and think, “What does this financial letter say? What does this other guy say? What’s all of that about? What does he want over here?” I then catch myself and notice four hours have gone by when I could have finished the emails I needed to do in 20 minutes.

That’s life. You have to discipline yourself to be productive.

So how do you do this effectively? I want you to think about dividing a piece of paper into two sides, a left side and a right side.

Most of our students are involved in business, work, career, or something where money or business is involved, so we’re going to put money/business on the left-hand side of the paper. On the right side, we’re going to put the rest of life. You might be thinking that that’s unbalanced, but it’s not.

Let’s take the money and business side. I’m going to give you a big secret right now that not too many people know. I call it “The Big Kahuna.” The big kahuna means the “big thing.”

“The Big Kahuna” Creates Greatness In Your Life

In your money and your business, what is the one big thing you can do that will have the most impactful effect and will create the biggest results?

It’s the ONE thing — not the ten things, five things, four, three or two things.

What is the ONE thing that you could do that would have the biggest effect on your money and your business or your career?

For my situation, since I’ve been fortunate enough to do enormously well on my book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, that book brought me a lot of clients and business from all over the world. The book has sold over 2 million copies now in 43 languages.

So “The Big Kahuna” for me that would have the greatest impact would be writing another best-selling book, and that would be huge compared to everything else that I do on a day-to-day basis.

How much time would I spend on that?

50% percent of all of my business time would go into my Big Kahuna.

This may come as a shock to some of you reading this right now. But let me ask you this…

Do you want greatness or do you want mediocrity?

Do you want wealth or do you want to earn a living? If you want wealth, you have to work on the Big Kahuna and make it happen.

That’s what will create greatness in your life.

For the right side of the paper (the rest of your life), how long in a relationship does it take to have dinner with your family and have a nice sit-down dinner? It takes an hour a day. How long does it take to read a book to your kids and spend quality time with them? It can take an hour or less. How long does it take to work out? It takes half of an hour to an hour. You DO have time for everything else and that’s the bottom line.

Okay what’s an example of a big kahuna for someone else who is in business?

I can tell you right now that 99% of every business problem lies in marketing and sales.

If you are a great marketer, chances are you’ll make great money. If you’re a lousy marketer, chances are you’ll make lousy money.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that the most essential skill I have is the skill of marketing, and 99% of the time, that’s my big kahuna.

In my experience most people who are underachieving are not spending enough time on marketing. The reason is because they either don’t like it (very common) or they don’t know exactly what to do to make it work.

Which is why we created our web class, The 500 Million Dollar Secret, to teach you exactly how to become a master at marketing…

… To show you what common mistakes most people make and how you can avoid them.

… And to give you an opportunity to know exactly what I do in my own business to predict success.

1. Take Ownership Of Your Life — You Create Your Success, Mediocrity or Financial Failure

So many of us spend our lives waiting for our “big break.” We think that if we just put our heads down, work hard, and do the right things, eventually someone will hand over the keys to our success.

If you want to create real success in your life, you need to believe that you are the one creating your own life. And on the flip side, that you are the one who creates any mediocrity or financial struggle.

It may sound harsh — but if you look at it the right way, it’s actually empowering. Because if you’re the one responsible for your own failure…

Then you’re also capable of changing your life for the better.

This is how wealthy people see the world, and it’s one of the reasons for their success. Most middle class and broke people see things very differently Instead of consciously creating their lives — they see life as something that “happens” to them, instead of “for” them.

So before you try to do anything else, it’s time to take control.

When you believe that you can create the life that you desire, rather than waiting for good things to happen to you, you’ll be putting yourself on the fast track to wealth and success.

2. If You Want To Change The Fruits, First Change The Roots

This may not make a lot of sense at first, but picture a tree in an orchard. Any kind of fruit will do. This tree you’re imagining represents your life.

In life, all of our actions will eventually have some kind of result – in other words, your tree will someday bear fruit. But what kind of fruit? Will it be juicy, crispy, and sweet? Or will the fruits of your labor be disappointing and bitter?

Most of us would like the juicy, sweet fruit – the successful results. So, if you want a tree to produce more and better fruit, what do you do?

You go back to the roots.

You can’t change the fruit that’s already been produced, but you can make tomorrow’s fruit sweeter. You nurture the parts hidden under the ground, knowing that eventually your efforts will affect the entire system of the plant.

Life is the same way. If you aren’t getting the results you want, it’s important to make sure you’re focusing on the real problem, not the end result. Focus on the invisible in order to change the visible.

3. Be Willing To Be Uncomfortable

The truth is, most people have trouble stepping outside their comfort zone. When we hit a roadblock or an obstacle, we assume that we’re doing something wrong.

But nothing could be further from the truth.

Instead of retreating back to old, familiar territory, try taking a different approach:

If you’re feeling uncomfortable, challenged, or discouraged – that means you’re growing.

Even if it doesn’t feel like you’re making progress, the fact that you’re moving outside your comfort zone means you’re moving forward.

Many of us envision success as a straight line, a road from point ‘a’ to point ‘b’. But in reality, the road to success is filled with unexpected twists and turns. Being able to accept and adapt to them is one of the major factors in actually achieving any big goal in life.

So the next time you feel lost, or confused, or just a little out of your depth, remember: it’s actually a good thing to try things that make you uncomfortable.

4. What You Focus On Expands

Have you ever met the kind of person who can’t seem to stop complaining about everything that’s wrong with their life?

You probably have. Did that person seem happy — or did they seem absolutely miserable?

It’s an unconscious trap we all fall into sometimes, but it’s a habit you must break if you want to reach your goals in life. And here’s why:

When you are complaining or negative, what are you focusing on — what’s right in your life or what’s wrong in your life?

What’s wrong in your life.

So if what you focuses on expands then what are you going to get more of in your life?

What’s wrong in your life.

So instead of looking for reasons why everything is wrong, commit to looking at what’s right.

By really focusing on your goals in a new and more dedicated way, you’ll find new roads opening up that you never would have noticed before.

5. Your Word Must Become Law

It’s time to be honest, and the answer to this question may make you cringe. But how often do you start projects and never finish them?

So often, we hear from people who start new programs, who set goals for themselves, and then never follow through.

Finishing what you start is more important than you might think, and it comes down to one word: integrity.

And that doesn’t just mean in terms of being honest with yourself (although that’s important).

It also means being whole and complete as a person.

When you don’t keep your word to yourself, it feels bad. When you don’t complete what you set out to do, it can shake your confidence and make you feel like there’s no real path to your goals.

It’s easy to get stuck in a loop of bad habits and turn this into a self-reinforcing cycle if you’re not careful.

On the other hand, when you do whatever it takes to keep your word to yourself, that confidence will spill over into every area of your life.

It’s a simple matter of self-discipline. It will take some practice and hard work, but in the end, it’s the only way to reach the goals you set for yourself. This is one of the major ways you can own your life and take control of your own success.

6. Be A Great Money Manager

Do you have a system for managing your money?

If you aren’t making as much as you’d like yet, it may seem easy to write the idea off. To tell yourself you’ll think about it later when you have extra money to budget.

But if you don’t take control of managing your income now, what will you do when you achieve the success you want?

If you have a poor habit of managing your money then there is a good chance you’ll still have a bad habit no matter how rich and successful you get.

The answer is to first build the habit no matter how much money you earn because money management is one of the biggest differences between rich people and most middle class and broke people.

7. Stop Focusing On The Money, Focus On Solving Problems

A big problem I see with struggling business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and people transitioning from a job to owning their own business is that they are fixated only on themselves.

Do I know enough? Will it work? Will I make enough money? Will they like me? And it goes on and on.

However, this is the wrong approach. Stop focusing on yourself and start focusing on others.

Making money isn’t complicated. People will pay for something that solves a problem for them. It’s that simple.

So you need to shift your focus to being what Harv calls a “problem solver.”

How can you best help people?

Money is a result of helping others and providing value to their life.

Think about your life right now. What are you paying for that is helping you solve problems in your life?

To get rich you need to help a lot of people solve a problem, that’s the key to success.

8. Model Rich And Successful People

How many of us grew up with millionaires in our lives we could use as role models for success? Not too many, right?

The sad fact is that most of us just haven’t seen what it takes to be rich and successful in life. We can’t go to mom and dad and ask them for advice on how to become a millionaire because most of our parents aren’t millionaires… so how would they know?

Instead, it’s imperative to find people who are rich and successful – and study them to learn how they got there.

You don’t have to meet these role models face-to-face to use this strategy.

You just need to do your homework. Read their books and watch interviews they’ve done. Find out what you can about their past through biographies and news stories. Learn what their lives were like when they were at the same point in their journey that you are now.

And then… do what they did. Model their approach.

9. Have No limits On Your Income

If you have a job, you have a limit on your income. You automatically have a ceiling on what you can earn.

If you want to get rich, you must get rid of all limits on your income.

In most cases that means starting a business.

However, a big mistake people make is when they start a business, they are the business. They are the ones who are solely responsible for the business succeeding or failing. Most small businesses and professionals are setup in a way that gives the owner such a vital role that without them present, the business is unable to function.

That kind of setup is a mistake. And that’s the reason why so many small businesses remain small or unfortunately fail.

To be truly successful, your business needs to be able to run without you having a hand in every little thing. If you can step back and allow the systems you develop to run your business for you, even better!

Once you step back and allow your business to run without you, there are no limits to the income you can earn.

Think about it – most jobs are based on an hourly rate, a salary, or a commission. That means you can only earn as much as you’re able to work.

But when you step back and let your systems do the work for you, suddenly the number of hours in the day will no longer hold you back.

10. Never Stop Learning — If You're Not Learning, You're Automatically Dying

Finally, don’t make the mistake of thinking that once you’ve achieved a goal, you know everything there is to know! The most successful people in the world are committed to continuing to learn and grow.

Set aside time in your life (and money in your budget) to invest in programs that will teach you something new each day. You’ve probably heard the saying that “knowledge is power” – take it to heart!

When it comes to getting rich, most people pour their time, energy, and money into the wrong areas.

Instead of focusing on the actions that are most likely to help them become wealthy, they end up unfortunately wasting their time and energy – and chances are, if you haven’t been as successful as you want in life yet, you’ve done this too.

Maybe you’ve heard of the 80/20 rule before – it’s the principle that states that 80% of your success is determined by only 20% of your actions. If you think about most areas of your life, this is probably true – some things are just more impactful than others.

Watch the video below — a sneak peek of my free webinar — to learn:

  • 00:20 — How I used to believe all parts of my business were equal and that each part deserved equal amounts of time, money, and effort.
  • 00:41 — Why that belief left me constantly broke and struggling to make ends meet.
  • 00:53 — How there are only three major parts to any business and what they are.
  • 01:18 — The real secret to business success and how it will have the single biggest impact on your financial life, and…
  • 02:17 — Why you should focus most of your business time, energy, money and learning (80%) in this one particular area.

What you will discover in the video may sound counterintuitive. It’s not common knowledge or common sense — but it does work in the real world. I’ve seen it time and time again with my students.

And if you liked this video, join us for my free training, The 500 Million Dollar Secret, and you’ll learn how to approach this one area of business in a whole new way… and reach the success you’ve always dreamed of.

Most people don't focus on this area of business and that’s why most people are working too hard AND earning too little. You may be one of them.

That can end quickly if you join Harv on his free web class where you’ll learn several reasons why this may be happening to you and how to turn it around so…

You can actually work less but earn more!

For Your Freedom,

The textbook definition of “straight” is something that has no bends, angles or curves. Can we apply that same definition to life? Absolutely NOT!

There really isn’t such thing as “straight” in the universe. At the core of everything – including us – is energy, and energy doesn’t travel straight. It travels in waves. Imagine throwing a pebble into a lake, watching the ripples gliding across the surface.

Right after you throw your pebble, someone else also tosses a pebble in the same lake, and now the ripples from that pebble collide with the ripples from yours. That’s how everything in this universe works.

People, events, actions and reactions are constantly colliding, creating new pathways, new situations, new circumstances and new actions. The chaos of life makes it almost impossible for anyone to always go “straight” to where they planned.

Some people thrive on chaos and change, but most people don’t. They get frustrated, down, and ready to throw in the towel because they usually have expectations, and these expectations are usually almost impossible to meet.

We might as well just accept it: the road to success comes with twists, turns, ups, downs, stops and reverses. Once we really understand and accept this, we’re less likely to be deluded into having unrealistic expectations that there’s a straight line to the top.

So when we come across bumps, flat tires, and raised bridges along the way, we won’t be so quick to get upset or give up. Getting off track is normal and therefore “perfect”.

You have to expect to spend a great deal of time making mistakes – or if it sounds better – “making corrections”. There’s a reason why perfectionists have a hard time being highly successful. Perfectionism is a form of fear, based on fear of failure or the fear of disapproval.

If perfectionists don’t get it exactly right, then they don’t have to finish, follow through, and move on. They get to stay stuck “until it’s right,” but of course it’ll never be right, so they never have to face the possibility of rejection or disappointment.

We need to consider mistakes – rather than something to be avoided at all costs – instead as “feedback.” Mistakes are our perfectly natural learning curve. They are the feedback we need to get ourselves back on track.

Then we can do the same thing we already know we need to do in order to keep moving forward: take action! Those actions will produce results, and sometimes more mistakes. Then we just get that feedback, use it to correct our course again, and then take more action.

This is the non-linear cycle toward success. As long as you use this cycle – and persevere – it’s virtually impossible to fail.

Remember, we’re all ripples in the lake of the universe. You never know how a comment, observation, or shared experience can change the course of your life or another’s!

Now it’s your turn! What are your stories about the ‘bumpy’ road to success? What unexpected events – totally beyond your control – have happened to you? How did you react? Did it set you back or help you move forward with new and better actions? How did you deal with the setbacks or successes?

For Your Freedom,

For most people, the inevitable setbacks on
the road to success can result in a lack of confidence
and low self esteem, but it doesn’t have to be this way.So to help prevent this from happening to you, I created a free e-book called MindFrick, “Master The Inner World To Succeed In The Outer World”, that I’d like to give to you for free.

How often have you experienced overwhelm?

It’s a common occurrence in most people trying to achieve their goals. They start out big, full of energy, multitasking everything at the same… and then are surprised when they become completely exhausted, with a bunch of unfinished items on their to-do list.

Today I’m going to share four simple steps to help you move beyond the paralysis of overwhelm, so you can easily and quickly choose what to focus on in your own life and career (while staying highly motivated)!

1. Understand the root of overwhelm

Overwhelm is a form of fear. It’s simply a worry that you won't be able to get it all done.

If you can identify it and start to understand what it is as a form of fear, you can then begin applying some methods that work wonders for me.

The first method to use, the basic primer, is when those thoughts and feelings arise, simply say to yourself, “Thank you for sharing.”
Your mind is based in fear, and it does what it's naturally going to do, which is spring that fear on you and cause unnecessary overwhelm.

Your mind goes, “Oh my God, what if I don't get it done? This bad thing will happen, and that bad thing will happen.”

It's all fear — and once you understand this, it makes “overwhelm” a whole lot less scary.

2. Reassure your mind

Next, you’ll need to speak to your mind and set the story straight.

Remember, your mind is your bodyguard. You don't say, “Shut up,” to your bodyguard, do you?

Nope! Instead you say, “Thank you for sharing,” and then you’re going to give your mind what it needs: assurance.

Just as you would a child, you're going to assure your mind that everything will be okay.

Just tell your mind, “Everything will be okay,” and take a nice, deep breath. Simply by doing this, you will come back to the present moment.

So, notice the feeling, understand it’s fear, and then reassure your mind that everything is actually okay.

Simple, right?

You give your mind what it needs and wants, like a bodyguard: assurance. Then you say, “Everything is going to be okay.” Lastly, take a breath and come back to the present moment.

That's the method. That method will drastically improve your life.

Now, I don't want you to “kind of” do it. I want you to do exactly that. You assure your mind. You breathe, and you come back to the present.

Here's what's going to happen. The first time you do this, what do you think is going to happen? Your mind’s going to say, “Yeah, great. Yeah, but. Yeah, but…”

And when it keeps doing this, just keep telling it everything is okay, and watch as magic begins to happen.

3. Practice, practice, practice

If you want this to work, you're going to have to commit to doing one thing: practice, practice, practice.

Do you know what the good news is? The way your mind is, you are going to get to practice so much. You're not going to have to worry about a practice partner. Your mind is the best practice partner in the world, isn't it? It will keep on bugging you over and over and over again.

Eventually, you're going to get to control it just a little bit better with each passing day, and each week… IF you don't give in, IF you keep working on it.

If you’re going to converse with it and get into it with your mind, you're going to have a problem. Keep it short. Keep it simple. Take command just like a child.

You don’t want to say to a child, “Oh no! What did that guy do to you? Where did he hit you?” You're just going to irritate the child. You're going to make him even more mad. You're going to make him more upset.

Say, “Thank you for sharing,” give assurance, breathe, and then come back to the present moment. The result? More likely than not a much calmer, soothed child vs. an angry, frustrated one.

Again, it all comes down to practice, practice, practice!

4. Take it one step at a time

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

This is obviously the worst metaphor in the history of metaphors, but it's the one everybody uses!

Let’s say instead of buying one book you really want to read, you buy two or three at a time. What do you do?

Do you read them all at once? Not usually. You read one book and then the other.

It’s the same way in life: you need to be careful about not spreading yourself too thin, and be sure to give attention to the most pressing issues, and work through them logically and calmly.

So there you have it! If you follow the above 4 steps with ongoing PRACTICE, you’ll find yourself become infinitely more productive — and MUCH less affected by overwhelm or paralysed by anxiety.

Now, I’d love to hear from all of you! What do you personally use or do to help with overwhelm? We ALL experience this nagging, uneasy feeling in one way or another, so are you actively putting in the effort to try and better handle these situations? If not, I challenge you to try the above 4 steps this week and then share your experiences with me in the comments below!

Enjoy!

For Your Freedom,

As mentioned, your mind is based in fear, and therefore, it can be your greatest asset or your greatest liability.Which is exactly why I created a web class called; Don’t Believe A Thought You Think: “The Greatest Secret To Life” where I share very powerful techniques to make your mind work for you vs. against you.

It’s very easy to find yourself complaining about anything and everything going wrong in your life.

Can you relate?

“Life is difficult, I’m broke.

“Life is so unfair, why can’t it be easier?”

“I hate my job.”

“Why did he or she say that to me?”

“I can’t stand this place, it smells bad.”

“Why do bad things always seem to happen to me?”

The list goes on and on and on. Before long, you find yourself in a constant state of “victim mode”.

Here’s what I mean…

You might not realize it, but your everyday language has a major impact on your life. And while it’s easy to react negatively to life events, pretty soon complaining becomes a habit.

Focusing on the negative becomes a habit. And guess what? This habit becomes one of the most detrimental habits you can possibly have. It can negatively impact you socially, affect your personal happiness, and it can also subconsciously sabotage your money and success.

Has being negative ever worked to your benefit?

I highly doubt it has. Why? Because blaming, complaining and justifying your negative situation only attracts more of the same and doesn’t help you one bit.

Watch my video to see what I mean, and read on below to participate in a powerful exercise that will transform your focus from a negative mindset to a positive one…

The 7-Day No Complaining Challenge

Are you open to believing that you can create your life and your financial success (this is how rich and successful people think!), instead of buying into the “life happens to me” victim mentality?

Are you ready to leave negative thinking behind once and for all and become a Power Thinker, someone who looks for opportunities and solutions instead?

As you make the shift, you’ll improve the quality of your life and start to positively impact everyone around you!

Good or good?!

Introducing the 7-Day No Complaining Challenge… if you choose to accept it.

Keep reading to see how it works…

How It Works

The 7-Day No Complaining Challenge begins on May 17th and ends on May 24th.

Each day a new Focus and Declaration will be announced via Facebook Live on my Facebook page.

Use the Focus we specifically created for you throughout the day to help you to shift away from the victim mindset to the rich and empowered mindset.

You’ll also be saying the Declarations we’ve chosen for you out loud three times a day to deeply ingrain these beliefs into your body and mind.

How Do I Remember To Say The Declaration Three Times A Day?! I’m really busy!

  • The Declaration only takes 10 seconds to say, so it’ll only take up to 30 seconds of your day.
  • Use your phone to set an alarm/reminder so you don’t forget.
  • Write it on a post-it and stick it somewhere you’ll see as a reminder.
  • Make the commitment to say the Declaration three times out loud every day!

And guess what? Our entire team at Harv Eker International will be participating in the challenge with you, so we’re all in this together!

For Your Freedom,

Have you ever felt guilty about accepting a reward?

I’m not talking about getting a hand out here, but for actually being comfortable and feeling good about taking a reward as a result of your hard work.

If you’ve ever felt like you “can’t” or “won’t” reward yourself for your hard work, I’m going to give you three simple steps to follow to remove all guilt… so you can fully celebrate your successes and feel great about rewarding yourself.

1. The golden rule of rewarding yourself

When it comes to rewarding yourself, follow this golden rule: do what works for you.

That’s it!

For most people, they don’t have a ‘play jar’ to spoil themselves. They don’t take time for themselves. They don’t focus on loving themselves.

They don’t focus on that feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment for more than three seconds before it becomes doubt, judgment and “What’s the next thing?”

The reason I incorporate rewards so heavily into my “Ultimate Life Makeover System” web class is because number 1, many times it’s tangible. When you buy that dress you’ve wanted or that jacket you’ve wanted and you see it in your closet all of the time, you’ll say, “Wow, it’s worth doing the things I committed to doing!”

And number 2, rewarding yourself for your accomplishments gives you the motivation, drive, and self-confidence to keep moving towards your goals with momentum.

Many people won’t give themselves a little reward here and there, which is why it’s so important to take the time to do this consciously.

Here’s the simplest way I teach to do this: Set an action and a deadline for that action to be completed,, set a reward, and when you complete that action, take your reward! Then… repeat this over and over and over again.

So, what works or WILL work for you when it comes to patting yourself on the back for a job well done?

2. Redefine rewards

If you believe that you should only get a reward for doing something difficult, then you need to rethink this belief immediately.

The bottom line is if you associate rewards with something difficult, you created that belief.

In other words, you were taught that if you do something unpleasant or difficult, you deserve and should get a reward.

But then what if you don’t do something difficult? Well, you don’t get one… right?

This is faulty thinking, and something that holds a lot of people back. You can and should get rewarded for accomplishing things you actually enjoy doing, too.

For example, if you ENJOY your work, and you are successful with it, guess what? You should be REWARDED for that!

You shouldn’t have to do work that you hate, and that is unpleasant and difficult simply to make money because you’ve linked rewards with unpleasantness.

If this is something you believe, then very unconsciously you have linked getting rewards from unpleasantness—and this singular belief is holding you back from enjoying your work, your life, and blocking you from experiencing true happiness.

3. Move beyond “either/or”

If you associate rewards with pain and suffering, then you’re living in an either/or world.

Remember what I said in my book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: most people live in an either/or world. Either it’s money or happiness, money or spirituality, money or health, money or free time, money or this, money or that.

It’s either/or.

How about we do what we love? How about we enjoy what we do? How about we do very pleasant and wonderful things and we get a reward as well?

Imagine this is your new rule: I can do what I love and get rewarded.

I can do what I enjoy and get rewarded in all kinds of ways, not just satisfaction and accomplishment (because the mind doesn’t hold onto these for longer than 3 seconds).

Instead, write down what you want in your life including all the “luxuries” you’ve ever dreamed of. They could be material. They could be any kinds of things, but you’ve got to allow yourself to enjoy them.

I’ll tell you why many people don’t do this: it’s because the conditioned, fear-based mind doesn’t want that. Because if you’re really nice to you and really good to you, then what is your mind supposed to do?

Its job is to look for the problems; to mainly look for what’s wrong. You must consciously step in and stop this in its tracks!

By unlinking rewards from unpleasantness, and instead believing that you deserve to be rewarded for ALL the great things you accomplish, you’ll begin operating on a higher energy plane – and living a more abundant, happy, fulfilled life in the process.

Now it’s your turn! How do you fare when it comes to taking rewards for your hard work? Are you able to fully celebrate your successes and reward yourself for the things you enjoy doing? If you’ve got no problem showering yourself with love and spoiling yourself, maybe you can help others in the community by sharing your story.

Leave me a comment below and let me know your thoughts and experiences on the topic!

As an entrepreneur, I often get asked this question:

How exactly do you transition from being an employee to being in business?

My answer is always simple. There are two types of people in the world: there are waders and there are divers. You’ll see how important this distinction is as we go on.

I’m going to outline my top three tips for starting a business before you leave your current job. After being in business myself for decades (and struggling for 12 long years), this advice comes from my firsthand experience — and could save you a LOT of valuable time and money in the long run.

Here we go…

1. Find Out How You Work

First, you need to decide what kind of person you are. Do you like to just dive into things, take a big risk, just go for it and put all your attention on it at once, or do you like to just wade in slowly?

Simply asking this of yourself will come into play when choosing whether to start a business (or not).

Regardless of who you are, one of the things that really bothers me is when people drop their current income to zero in order to start something new. I’m not just talking about a job here — I mean income.

When you’re starting out in business, it’s crucial that you take care of cash flow. There is no point in jumping in and running hard only to find out you've run out of cash two months in. Instead, it’s super important to make sure you have money coming in, so you can give your business the chance it deserves.

I don’t care if you’re a diver — suck it up for a little bit. Don’t lose your income. You can lower it, yes, but don’t lose it.

Why is this? If you are starting out in business and cut yourself off financially, you won’t be happy. Let me tell you now, you’ll be stressed, in fear, and full of anxiety.

You’ll start coming from a place of scarcity, as opposed to abundance. There won’t be any joy in your new business, and it will feel like a burden… before it’s even started.

Do you know what that is called? That’s called diving with no water into a pool.

And what's going to happen if you jump into a pool with no water? You’re going to crack your head right open. I have a million students, and I’ve heard thousands upon thousands of stories about this. It happens all the time — but the good news is that it’s easily preventable.

2. Start Your Business Part Time

Whether you're in a business that you think is not doing well and you want to get out of that business and into a new one, or if you are in a job and you want to get into a business that you love… here is the route I highly recommend you take.

Keep your current situation and start your new situation part time.

Of course, this would mean working overtime, late at night, and on weekends.

Let me say right now that if this is unappealing to you, you shouldn’t start a business. Because if you want to be successful in business, you will have to work weekends and you will have to work at night. Boohoo!

The truth is, when you own your own business, at the beginning you will have to work your freaking buns off, with 1,000% attention and 1,000% focus. That’s how it works.

I didn’t make up the rules. It’s just the way it is.

If you’re not going to stay in your job, while working nights and weekends on a part-time basis and earning some income with your new business (until it's stable enough for you to fully transition), then my humble advice to you is to forget about starting a business altogether.

3. Get Educated In Your Field

This is a big one so pay close attention.

If your new business situation is in your current field, and it’s very similar to what you’re already doing, then you've got a nice head start!

But if you want to jump into something new and different than you’re doing right now, what do you have to do? You need to get hands-on experience in the trenches.

Even if it seems like a downgrade at first, it’s really an investment in yourself, your knowledge, your skill — and the assurance that your business will succeed instead of thinking short-term.

If you get a job in the field you want to run your business in, then you learn the ropes… on someone else’s dime.

(You do this at the same time as building your business on nights and weekends.)

The truth is, people go to university for four, five or six years to get skilled in their chosen field, and they pay to go. But if you do it this way, instead of you paying them, they’re paying you a little something.

Think of it as an investment in your business – and your future success.

In my book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, I tell a story about when I was 95% sure that I wanted to open a restaurant. I wanted to open a restaurant, so I took my own advice and I started working in different jobs in the restaurant industry.

I was a broiler cook, a sous-chef, a host, a busboy, a waiter and a manager at a pie store, because I thought I was going to have a dessert restaurant, so I wanted to meet bakers. I was going through the garbage every night to see the boxes they threw out, and who their suppliers were.

I had seven different restaurant jobs in four months. I would leave each one of them, sometimes even before I got paid fully, because I was simply there to learn.

I learned the most important thing about the restaurant business for me: that I would never be in the restaurant business.

Can you believe it? That’s honestly what I learned: that I don’t want to be in the restaurant business. This was the most valuable advice I could’ve ever received.

When you work before diving head first into a new business, you go to school on someone else’s dime. You learn what it’s like to be in the business, not to look at it from the outside.

You want to be inside the business. You look in the trash can. You learn the suppliers. You learn everything you can about being in that business: the pitfalls, the good stuff, where the money is made and where the opportunities are.

Here’s a statistic: 80% of all new businesses fail within the first five years.

You’ve heard that 100 times, and it’s true — except for one thing: 65% of all new businesses succeed if the person was already in that industry.

If they were just creating a new niche within the industry they were already in, then the chances of success skyrocket.

If you’re serious about having your own business, you need to know how you work, be prepared to do the work, and be humble enough to admit you don’t know everything.

By taking a step back and seeing your approach as a slow and steady investment in your future, you’ll be able to play the long game — and reap the rewards.

So there you have it. My top three tips for starting a business, before you leave your current job.

Again, like I mentioned, I have many years of firsthand experience with starting businesses. I started 14 different businesses throughout 12 years and out of the 14, almost every single one of them failed. If you follow my guidelines above, I assure you your chances of success in business will dramatically increase.

For Your Freedom,

Before starting a new business or leaving your current job or business, having an idea or vehicle that’s going to create wealth is absolutely critical.

Unfortunately, most people try and succeed with the wrong vehicle at the wrong time and wonder why they struggle.

So to help you with this, I’ve created a template that will give you a step-by-step blueprint for generating highly profitable ideas on demand.

Click here to download your “How To Generate Million Dollar Ideas Every 60 Seconds” template now.

Have you ever heard that old quote, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”?

This was said by ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky, and is a quote I always keep in mind. It’s a simple premise, but one that resonates with me to the core.

I recently stumbled across an email I wanted to share with you, which had a similar idea — although this time it was referencing basketball!

But the truth is, both Gretzky's quote and what I’m about to tell you can — and absolutely should — be applied to your financial success.

The Email That Could Change Your Life

The premise of the email was this:

The author researched the top 10 starters for the Eastern and Western All-Star basketball teams to find out how much money they made this year — which came to a whopping $224 million. Not bad for 10 players.

But the interesting thing was what he discovered about their average field goal percentage. By the way, if you’re not into basketball, this is the number of shots taken that fall into the basket, versus those that don’t make it in. Basically, how often the player is making the shot.

So now you’ve got these 10 guys making tens of millions of dollars a year each, and you’re probably thinking that their percentages are somewhere near 100%, right? Or surely around 90 or 80 at the very least?

Nope — almost the opposite.

The author found that these 10 All-Star players were an average of 48.8% from the field.

Isn’t that crazy? That means that these 10 superstar athletes aren’t even making  shots half the time. Compared to the 100% success rate the average Joe needs to achieve in his desk job, being an NBA ball player sure sounds like a breeze!

The Truth Behind All Epic Success Stories

But of course, it’s not quite this simple. And when you think about it, pretty quickly you can see why.

These high-level athletes — just as any CEO, entrepreneur or successful individual — spend their whole lives training to be the best. Not so they can have a perfect score percentage, but so they have the skills and experience to even get to play on that court.

See, although these athletes make their jobs look easy, it’s anything but. They’ve put in copious amounts of blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes to get to that point.

The years of training and commitment, missing out on parties, staying focused, and constantly honing their skills are why they’re at the level they’re at today — and this drive is priceless.

It’s the amount of time they spent improving themselves before the big game which commands their huge paychecks.

Now, ask yourself: what are you doing to improve yourself outside of your job? Beyond the basic requirements you need to meet to get your paycheck… how are you going above and beyond?

What Does This Mean For You?

The truth is, success isn’t a one-hit wonder; it’s a slow burn. Seemingly “overnight successes” are generally people who have been grinding for years before they made it big — even if it seems like it came easy.

So much of the success in the moment comes down to the hours, weeks, months, and years of dedication that have been put in before the first big paycheck.

On top of this, achieving the success you’re capable of relies on a thirst for growth, and the motivation to constantly better yourself.

And the rest is gravy!

As these big shot ball players show you don’t have to be perfect to get to where you want to be; in fact, you don’t even need to get half of the shots you take in.

But you do need to take a shot — and be ready for when your moment comes.

Your Next Steps

As I mentioned earlier, “the success you’re capable of relies on a thirst for growth, and the motivation to constantly better yourself.”

This boils down to two important steps.

First, don’t quit. You WILL reach any dream you strive for as long as you don't quit.

How badly do you want to achieve your dream? A simple wish won’t cut it. You need to have a big enough goal that will motivate you to keep going, even during times when all you feel like doing is give up!

Secondly, you must constantly be learning and growing as a person.

And the best kind of learning comes from real life experience. I hope you agree.

And when it comes to success, it’s no different: Experience is the best teacher.

The problem for most people is that their experience is full of struggle, frustration, dealing with one step forward and two steps back, and so on.

So you can either learn from your own experience and pray you’ll figure it out.

Or you can learn from someone who has been where you’re at and has found a formula to make millions and millions and millions of dollars.

On May 2nd, I hosted a web class called…

Zero to Muiltimillionaire
The Ultimate Business Success Formula

We’ve had hundreds of emails pouring in from students who couldn’t make the class asking us for the replay. Unfortunately we don’t have one, however, what we have is even BETTER.

Harv's decided to put on an ENCORE class to give everyone who missed it another shot to attend. It's happening Thursday, May 4th and hopefully this time around you can make it.

On this class you’ll learn 6 proven principles that make the biggest difference between getting rich and staying middle class or broke.
