What is ambition? What does it look like for you and how can you achieve what you REALLY want in life? In this lesson you’ll learn how to answer these questions and you’ll also find a very powerful exercise for defining ambition according to your own personal goals. Enjoy!
What Is Ambition? Defining It for Yourself and Finding Success
Among the many things we all want in life, more money tends to consistently be in the top five. Money makes life a little easier, at least financially. You can do more things with more money. That leads to another connected want on most everyone’s list — greater happiness. This usually includes less stress about financial security, more personal time, more freedom, and greater joy.
Linking Your Ambition to Long-Term Happiness
These are things that lots of people say they want, but most people aren’t financially secure and barely get by while working their jobs. In fact, even when circumstances change and they get offered a new position, they don’t consider that though this new job might be “more money” than they were making before, it still may not be the right choice. After all, does this new job put them on the road to financial freedom or simply retirement? Additionally, how long will it take to get there playing the money game like we were taught?
And, overall, is that a joyful way to live?
After money, one of the things we think most about it our “Why.” Our why is closely related to our ambition and asks: why do you want what you say you want? Does it really mean something to you? Is that someone else’s imposed thoughts echoing in your head? By defining what is ambition to you, hopefully not. Hopefully your ‘why’ becomes derived from your own spirit.
My Own Ambition
I always wanted to be free. In fact, even though I love doing what I do, I would hate it if someone forced me to do this. While I love the job itself, people just don’t like to be forced to do things. You, me, everyone wants their life and ambition to be lead by choice.
Additionally, that choice has to be backed by reasons that are honest, true, and excite you to your core. When you make your choices, you want to feel like a kid who can’t stop jumping up and down and clapping in anticipation of pure joy.
Your Assignment
In my experience working with thousands of people, more than 50% of the people that do this one simple action doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled their income within a year:
Write down want you want. It must be clear, and it must be absolutely important to you. Write at least five reasons why you want what you want, especially in terms of wanting more money. This helps you define ambition according to your goals. Then, put that sheet of paper on a wall you can’t avoid.
The results from this task are unbelievable. However, you have to do your part and take the first step. It all starts with putting your ambitions front and center in your consciousness.
Now tell me what is ambition in your eyes? What goals are you proud to have checked off your list?
Share your stories! Together we can continue to grow and learn with each other!
