The video above is a recording of a live call with my students where I discuss how to solve internal conflict related to ingrained money beliefs. If you’re ready to get beyond your negative mindset about money, keep reading.
You’ve probably heard limiting money beliefs like, “money is the root of all evil” or “rich people are greedy.”
Heck, you may actually have those negative beliefs yourself. Believe it or not, the way you think and feel about money plays a huge role in the decisions you make and the way you view money.
If you believe that money is evil and rich people are greedy, how could you ever become rich yourself?
You couldn’t.
But money isn’t the issue here.
Neither is that “problem” you’re facing.
When it all boils down to it, the issue is your mind.
Everything is neutral until you give it meaning.
Your belief — your mindset — is what gives money, or anything else in life it’s context. Rich people aren’t bad. Poor people aren’t bad. People’s mindsets about wealth is what makes it “evil.”
In the video above, I’m talking with my students about how to solve internal conflict related to ingrained money beliefs.
One student said he is conflicted over “wanting to be rich, but believing that money is evil.”
Over time, some people develop an unhealthy money belief system, and those unhealthy thoughts could actually be impairing their ability to get rich.
Understand Where Your Money Beliefs Come From
It’s important not only to acknowledge your beliefs about money, but to understand them.
Where did they come from? Who told you that money is bad? What experiences made you feel that way about wealth?
You need to recondition your money beliefs to train yourself and your mindset. If (or when) you become rich, would you be a bad person? Would you give money to those in need? Would you help others if you become rich? If so, then being rich is not bad. Being rich, just like anything else in life, is whatever you make it to be.
So if you are experiencing internal conflict because of your beliefs about money, you should take proactive steps to change those beliefs.
Become aware of your limiting, non-supportive beliefs related to wealth and money and change them into supportive ones.
Let’s get ready to re-write your money story starting now.
4 Steps To Change Your Negative Money Mindset
1. Let Go of Past Money Mistakes
I could talk for days about the money mistakes I made when I was young! There are tons of financial decisions in my past that I wish I could go back, erase, and do-over. Unfortunately, that isn’t how life works. The only thing I can do now is to use what I learned from those experiences to help me make better decisions today.
Once I accepted my financial failures in my past, I was able to move on from them, but it required me to change my mindset. Starting with a fresh perspective on money, for me, was a breath of fresh air.
It is time for you to do the same thing. Let go of your financial failures and start to move on!
2. Eliminate Scarcity Mindset
The scarcity mindset is believing there is never enough. In your mind, you believe that no matter what you do, there will never be enough.
But, in almost every case, that simply isn’t true. There will always be enough; it may not be exactly what we want or like. But, your needs will be met.
The opposite of a scarcity mindset is an abundance mindset. In order to have a healthy relationship with money and move towards financial freedom, seeing your life and the things in your life through an abundance mindset will be a game-changer.
3. Reflect Gratitude
Be thankful for what you do have. Look around and see what you have.
Show thanks!
An attitude of gratitude will always find the positive no matter what may be going on around you.
I get it. Reflecting gratitude isn’t always easy, especially during tough times.
But I can guarantee that when you begin to focus on the positive, the things that seem negative will start to fade away.
4. Commit to What You Want
The number one reason most people don’t get what they want is that they don’t know what they want.
Rich people are totally clear that they want wealth. They are unwavering in their desire. They are fully committed to creating wealth. As long as it’s legal, moral, and ethical, they will do whatever it takes to have wealth. Rich people do not send mixed messages to the universe. Poor people do.
How do you want to live your life?
How do you want to play the game?
Do you want to play in the big leagues or in the little leagues, in the majors or the minors?
Are you going to play big or play small?
Are you going to live a level 10 life? It’s your choice.
