Have you ever heard that old quote,\u00a0\u201cYou miss 100% of the shots you don\u2019t take\u201d<\/i>?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

This was said by ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky, and is a quote I always keep in mind. It\u2019s a simple premise, but one that resonates with me to the core.<\/span><\/p>\n

I recently stumbled across an email I wanted to share with you, which had a similar idea \u2014 although this time it was referencing basketball!<\/span><\/p>\n

But the truth is, both Gretzky’s quote and what I\u2019m about to tell you can \u2014 and absolutely\u00a0should<\/i>\u00a0\u2014 be applied to your financial success.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Email That Could Change Your Life<\/span><\/h2>\n

The premise of the email was this:<\/span><\/p>\n

The author researched the top 10 starters for the Eastern and Western All-Star basketball teams to find out how much money they made this year \u2014 which came to a whopping $224 million<\/strong>. Not bad for 10 players.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the interesting thing was what he discovered about their average field goal percentage.<\/strong> By the way, if you\u2019re not into basketball, this is the number of shots taken that fall into the basket, versus those that don\u2019t make it in. Basically, how often the player is making the shot.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So now you\u2019ve got these 10 guys making tens of millions of dollars a year\u00a0each<\/i>, and you\u2019re probably thinking that their percentages are somewhere near 100%, right? Or surely around 90% or 80% at the very least?<\/span><\/p>\n

Nope \u2014 almost the opposite.<\/span><\/p>\n

The author found that these 10 All-Star players were an average of 48.8% from the field.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Isn\u2019t that crazy? That means that these 10 superstar athletes\u00a0aren\u2019t even making shots half the time<\/i>.<\/strong> Compared to the 100% success rate the average Joe needs to achieve in his desk job, being an NBA ball player sure sounds like a breeze!<\/span><\/p>\n

But of course, it\u2019s not quite this simple. And when you think about it, pretty quickly you can see why.<\/span><\/p>\n

These high-level athletes \u2014 just as any CEO, entrepreneur or successful individual \u2014 spend their whole lives training to be the best. Not so they can have a perfect score percentage, but so they have the skills and experience to even get to play on that court.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

See, although these athletes make their jobs look easy, it\u2019s anything but. They\u2019ve put in copious amounts of blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes to get to that point.<\/span><\/p>\n

The years of training and commitment, missing out on parties,\u00a0staying focused<\/span><\/a><\/span>, and constantly honing their skills are why they\u2019re at the level they\u2019re at today \u2014 and this drive is priceless.<\/span><\/p>\n

But you\u00a0do<\/i>\u00a0need to take a shot \u2014 and<\/strong> be ready for when your moment comes.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As I mentioned earlier, the success you\u2019re capable of relies on a thirst for growth, and the motivation to constantly better yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n

This boils down to two important steps:<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Don\u2019t Quit!<\/span><\/h3>\n

You WILL reach any dream you strive for as long as you focus on it<\/a> <\/span>and don’t quit.<\/span><\/p>\n

How badly do you want to achieve your dream? A simple wish won\u2019t cut it. You need to have a big enough goal that will motivate you to keep going, even during times when all you feel like doing is give up!<\/span><\/p>\n

2. You Must Be Constantly Learning And Growing<\/span><\/h3>\n

The best kind of learning comes from real life experience. I hope you agree.<\/span><\/p>\n

And when it comes to success, it\u2019s no different:\u00a0Experience is the best teacher<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The problem for most people is that their experience is full of struggle, frustration, dealing with one step forward and two steps back, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n
