But there is a way out: <i>delegation<\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Yeah, yeah, you know it\u2019s important to do, and you know it will save you time and help others develop new skills. So, why aren\u2019t you doing it?<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Why you\u2019re not delegating<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">There are plenty of reasons why business owners and managers don\u2019t delegate. Some are perfectionists who think it\u2019s easier to do everything themselves, or that their work is better than others\u2019. Some believe that passing on work will make them look bad, while others lack self-confidence and don\u2019t want to be upstaged by other people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">No matter what your reasons are, accepting that you can\u2019t do everything yourself is a critical first step to delegating. Figure Out What You\u2019d Rather Not Do<b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">No one loves to do every task required to run a successful business, and if there are things you find yourself avoiding because you just don\u2019t like doing them, it could be something you could delegate to someone who does. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">If you hate running inventory or are terrible with posting on social media, but you\u2019ve been doing it because no one else was available, make those tasks your priorities for delegation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6437 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/4\/files\/2020\/07\/Delegation-meeting-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/files\/2020\/07\/Delegation-meeting-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/files\/2020\/07\/Delegation-meeting-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/files\/2020\/07\/Delegation-meeting-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/files\/2020\/07\/Delegation-meeting.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Start by delegating the tasks you dislike to other people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">2. Choose Who You Delegate To Wisely<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Your employees have different strengths. Learn their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/how-to-identify-strengths-manage-weaknesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">strengths and weaknesses<\/span><\/a> before handing off tasks. You want to set them up for success, so be sure the work you\u2019re giving them plays to their abilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">In other words, if someone admits they aren\u2019t good with numbers, don\u2019t give them the monthly invoicing just because they have some free time, or there isn\u2019t anyone else who wants it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Successful delegation requires trust, so be sure to give the right tasks to the person who\u2019s ready and able to complete the work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">3. Set Clear Expectations<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019m convinced most people want to do a good job, but they may need to know what you consider to be a job well done. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">What exactly are you currently doing, from start to finish? And what are your expectations as far as each step of the process? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">If you can articulate these, then you can give them something they can reference if they have questions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">4. Hire Based on the Skills You Need<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019ve written a lot about the importance of vetting your team carefully as you go <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/learn-how-to-hire-employees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">to hire the right people<\/span><\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">If you don\u2019t think that anyone else on your staff is detail-oriented enough to handle the invoicing or bookkeeping, then you\u2019ll need to hire for that skill set.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">5. Acknowledge the Person Taking Over<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">It may sound like a small point, but saying, <em>\u201cThank you for taking this on\u201d<\/em> can be an invaluable way to make a team member not only feel appreciated, but also gain respect for the importance of the task. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Acknowledging their contributions and letting them in on the importance of their role is a great way to motivate the person taking over.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Bottom line&#8230; If you want to get rich, you will need help.<\/b> <\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">You will need support. And it comes down to a matter of ENERGY. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">A lot of money takes a lot of energy! Will the wealth you want to earn take the energy of one person, 5, or 10, or 50 people?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">If you delegate well, you can increase trust and commitment within your team, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.harveker.com\/blog\/work-from-home-survival-kit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">improve productivity<\/span><\/a><\/span>, and make sure the right people are performing the tasks that best suit them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">So don\u2019t be afraid to pass the baton. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">It might take some practice to become a great delegator, but if you work at it, you\u2019ll all go further.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Now, it\u2019s your turn!
