The following is an analogy that I use in one of my courses:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Imagine that you\u2019re on a freeway or an expressway and you are looking for a specific exit.<\/span><\/p>\n

You think it\u2019s coming up but you\u2019re not sure. <\/span><\/p>\n

What lane are you on? Are you in the passing lane or the slow lane?<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019re going to be driving in the slow lane looking for that exit because you\u2019re not sure when it\u2019s going to come up. You don\u2019t want to miss it, right?<\/span><\/p>\n

However, when you\u2019re not<\/i> looking for an exit, you’d probably be driving in the fast lane, right?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Similarly, when you are in a business or a job that you don\u2019t have a passion for \u2014 or have very little interest in and doesn\u2019t suit you at all \u2014 you’d most likely be doing it to make money. <\/span><\/p>\n

But when you’re in\u00a0a job that doesn\u2019t sing to your heart, do you know what\u2019s going to happen?<\/span><\/p>\n

Subconsciously you\u2019ll be thinking, \u201cHow do I get out of here? What else could I do? This isn\u2019t fulfilling. I\u2019m not happy.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

So would you be driving in the fast lane or the slow lane?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019re going to be driving in the slow lane.<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s the result going to be?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You won’t be performing as well as you could be.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

Even though you think you\u2019re going to make more money by going for the money, you actually won\u2019t make more money because you won\u2019t perform at your best, because you\u2019ll be driving in the slow lane. That\u2019s all there is to it.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s better to be doing something that you\u2019re passionate about<\/a><\/span> and something that you are\u00a0interested in. You need to be doing something that involves making good use of your personal strengths and talents<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

At least then you\u2019ll be driving in the fast lane rather than being unsure and becoming stuck in the slow lane<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
