Getting rich and achieving financial freedom is a dream for many.
Unfortunately, for 95% of people, it’s not a reality.
If you don’t follow the right formula to study, learn from and model the right people, you could be stuck struggling financially your entire life.
Still, you don’t have to fear. It’s never too late to turn your life around, and today I’m going to share 11 principles that will set you on the path to financial freedom and real wealth.
11 Millionaire Mindset Principles to Help You Achieve Financial Freedom
With the right tools, knowledge, and attitude — plus an unwavering amount of “whatever it takes” action — despite what you may have been taught, getting rich and becoming financially free may be a lot closer than you think.
How To Build A Millionaire Mindset
If you want to be a millionaire, you need to think like a millionaire. The millionaire mindset is what lets you make changes in your life and reach the goals you have always wanted. But that means you have to refocus your mind and change how you think about yourself, your finances, and the world around you. If you keep thinking about things the same way, you’re going to get the same results. Change in the world around you doesn’t happen until you change yourself.
Below is a collection of some of my favorite “millionaire mindset” principles and sayings that will give you insights into how the richest people in the world think about money, wealth, and success.
Once you begin to learn these mindsets, you can start to model them and use them in your own life for financial success.
You can use these principles to make sure you are on the right track to financial freedom.
And if you want to learn the 8 critical elements you need in place to become financially free, then make sure you join me in my free web class, Fastrack To Freedom.

1. The Universe Gives You What You Can Handle
“Money miracles will occur once you demonstrate to the universe that you can handle your finances properly.”
The universe has rules. As much as you’d like to ask to become a millionaire and have all the money of your dreams, it’s not going to happen until you first take care of what you are in charge of now. Until you show you can handle what you’ve already got, you won’t be given any more.
By taking care of the financial situation that you’re in now, you’ll learn the skills that you need to manage millions, but you can’t skip a step. First, you have to show mastery over your finances now, and once you have established that, the universe will give you more.
2. No Pain, No Gain (At Least At The Beginning, If You’re Smart)
“If you are willing to do only what’s easy, life will be hard. But if you are willing to do what’s hard, life will be easy.”
When you first change your mindset to think like a millionaire, it’s going to hurt. You’re changing how you think about your world and you’re going to have to break down some of the ingrained opinions you learned while growing up. Making those changes is difficult, but if you’re not willing to do the hard things, you can’t expect the same results as people who are.
Having a millionaire’s mind requires change. Change is going to feel painful at first, but it’s worth it.

3. If You’re Not Growing, You’re Automatically Dying
“If you’re not doing as well as you like, all that means is there’s something you don’t know.”
Growth is a natural part of life. If you look at a tree, you’ll see that over time, it is constantly growing. The same goes for millionaires.
There is always room for you to grow and improve. Millionaires are constantly thinking about their life and how to become something more than who they currently are.
Growth doesn’t always have to be in the financial sector. Any growth is worth having. Learning how to be a better listener, a creative painter, or a better chef are all worthy talents.
If you feel like you are stuck and aren’t becoming better in any way, you are like a plant that has outgrown its pot. You might need to replant yourself in a new field by getting a different job or even moving to a new city to allow yourself to grow, but you should constantly be seeking opportunities to grow.
4. Clarity Is Power
“The number one reason most people don’t get what they want is that they don’t know what they want.”
Vague dreams and goals like “I want to be rich” can feel motivating, but they’re useless. To activate your millionaire mind, you need to have a clear picture of what you want out of life.
While needs and goals can vary from person to person, the aspiring millionaire has a mind fixed on the outcome of wealth. This clarity of mind, accompanied by clarity of heart, the desire to help as many people as possible, is at the center of a millionaire’s mindset.
Wealthy indeed is the individual who understands who they are, their strengths and weaknesses, where they’re going and what difference they can make in the world.
5. Gain Wealth Through Purpose, Contribution, & Joy
“If your motivation for acquiring money or success comes from a non-supportive root such as fear, anger, or the need to ‘prove’ yourself, your money will never bring you happiness.”
If your goal for being wealthy is to simply be wealthy, you will never feel complete in your journey and you will always be searching for the next upgrade in pay. You won’t find happiness if your vision ends at your net worth.
Many of us are programmed to be unhappy. We can have tons of money, a sports car, be at the top of our career, and still be unhappy.
True joy and happiness don’t come through conditional statements like, “If I get a raise, then I’ll be happy,” or, “If I buy a house, then I’ll be happy.” Happiness should never be contingent on a future event. If so, you’re setting yourself up to be miserable all along the path, and once you do arrive at your “if, then” destination, you will find that the joy, happiness, or purpose you were seeking is temporary at best.
You must decide who you are and what contribution you want to make. By understanding your purpose in life, you’ll be able to find happiness and joy in what you are able to give in the present moment, this is where true wealth is found and is also the root of true financial freedom.

6. Learn From Other Rich & Successful People
“Rich people play the money game to win. Poor people play the money game to not lose.”
If you surround yourself with people who are trapped in their lives, who feel like they are financially limited and stuck, you are highly likely to feel the same way. However, if you surround yourself with successful people that have cracked the code, you will learn and grow along with them.
You don’t have to do this alone, and learning from experts is one of the easiest ways to bypass years of struggle & heartache. Gain the mindset of a millionaire by learning from them. Millionaires don’t think like everyone else and if you want to become a millionaire, you need to know what they know.
7. What You Focus On Expands
“Your field of focus determines what you find in life.”
Your mind is a powerful tool and can make a major difference in your life when you learn how to use it correctly. What you think about most in your life is what will expand and become important for you. Learning how to control your thoughts helps you learn how to control your world.
After you have determined what is most important in your life, you need to focus on it. The more attention and focus you give it, the more it will grow and expand. If you spend all day focusing on your past failures, those failures will expand and become an even heavier weight that you will have to bear. On the other hand, if you choose to focus on your wins and your future successes, your life will fill with more of them.
8. Make A Lot of Money & Help A Lot Of People
“The goal of truly rich people is to have massive wealth and for many of them, it’s to help a lot of people.”
The purpose of wealth is not to sit in your bank account collecting dust. The purpose of wealth is to help others.
Most millionaires don’t hoard their money. They want to use their money to help others. They work hard, save hard, and help with just as much energy and passion. For some, this means donating to a charity or church, or for others, it’s helping out family and friends.
Helping others and contributing to your community shouldn’t be reserved until you’ve built your savings to a specific amount. Start to contribute now to those around you. Help those that stand in need of help.
9. When You Change Your Mindset, You’ll Change Your Life
“It’s not enough to be in the right place at the right time. You have to be the right person, in the right place, at the right time.”
Your mindset determines your reality. If you see the world as a horrible, painful place, that influences the reality you experience.
On the other hand, if you put on your awesome glasses, you’ll quickly realize that everything is awesome. Your job? Awesome. Your community? Awesome. Even that previously painful commute through rush hour traffic can be an awesome time to soak up learning. It all depends on how you look at it.
One of the easiest ways to change your world is by changing how you think about it. Choosing to think about your world as giving and supportive gives you the power to succeed.
And of course, as the late, great Earl Nightingale loved to say, “we become what we think about most of the time.”

10. Rich People Are Willing To Do What Average People Won’t
“Are you willing to work 16 hours a day? Rich people are. Are you willing to work seven days a week and sometimes most of your weekends? Rich people are.”
Most of us know what it takes to be better, but we choose not to because we’re afraid of the consequences of those choices.
For example, we know that we should get out and stay out of debt, but what about that one thing? You know the thing. You’ve had your eye on it for a few weeks. It’s exactly what you want. It’s even on sale — 10% off! But you don’t have the savings for it. The average person puts it on their credit card, and doesn’t think twice about it. Someone with a millionaire’s mindset will make the hard decision and wait.
The reason people aren’t who they want to be isn’t that they don’t know how; it’s because they’re unwilling to make the hard choices. Those hard choices can be everything from waking up early, working an extra shift, or moving to a different city for better job opportunities.
No matter what those hard choices might be, the millionaire mindset focuses on enabling and empowering you to do what you know is right without making excuses.
11. Know What It Takes, Do What It Takes, Never Give Up, & Focus, Focus, Focus
“Getting rich takes focus, courage, knowledge, expertise, 100 percent of your effort, a never-give-up-attitude, and of course, a rich mindset.”
Conditioning your mind to become that of a millionaire’s takes focus. To see success, you have to be 100% in on changing your life. If you are not willing to give it everything you have, you won’t get the same rewards as those who did.
Things might not always go right, and not every plan you make will be perfect, but millionaires get up more times than they fall down and keep pushing through towards the end goal.
You need the right mindset if you want to push through the trials and reach your goals.

Dear Ekers,
Thanks for your mail- they’re always useful interesting and to the point.
But you should know the contact/booking form cannot be submitted using iPhone (the last event was the same btw)??
Hi Matt! Thanks for the compliment 🙂
So I just got my team to test this…They didn’t duplicate your issue. Can you help us out and send a quick email to our support@harveker.com team so we can prevent this from happening in the future.
Appreciate it.
In #6 you state: “Rich people play to win ” Can you state for all of us what we need means to you? I suppose when I read this I imagine people being encouraged to get their way at the cost of their own integrity and resources. To me , winning means someone else ‘loses’. Is this simply semantics or is winning a different mindset to you ?
Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the comment.
That would mean that we’re going after what we want on offense instead of playing it safe and not trying to make a mistake.
For example, a soccer team who only played defense and did their best to protect the net at all cost and never played on offense. If they never played on the offense that means they can never win.
So the mindset is about playing to win the game of money and proactively going after what you want vs. being reactive in life and just trying to protect what you have.
The above comment should read ‘winning’ not we mean.
Dear Harv- many thanks for this reminder on the success principles. You are the best! Dr Omar Fisher
As always, great article, short and to the point.
No matter how many classes I take from you, or others, books and whatnot, I can surely testify one cannot get anywhere or anything unless one knows what one wants in life.
Principal # 10 is poppycock. Working 16 hours a day, 7 days a week and weekends is promoting workaholism and sure to lead to burnout and health problems.
Hi Harvey, Thanks for your comment!
We’re using it as an explanation that rich people are willing to do IF THEY NEED TO.
Doesn’t mean they will do it but they sure as heck will do what they need to do to get the results they want and the job done. Poor people are really only willing to do what’s needed and not much else more.
Or they will work based on their mood. We promote being a whatever it takes person.
Very true facts.Send more email.Very realistic.
Success is finally more an effort achieved and learnt.
Be blessed for wonderful work
Hi, Harv and Jesse!
I have a “problem” with passive income: you want your money/business to work for you, which means that someone else is doing the work => you profit from someone else working for not so much money while you’re pocketing most of the benefits. Am I correct here?
Hi Colette,
I would have to disagree. There are lots of ways you can do this. For one though if you start a business, you put your time, energy and money into it why should you not benefit more than anyone else?
To me you took that risk you went for it and you freaking deserve it!
Secondly, you can pay people whatever you choose. If you want to take only take a certain amount of money to live the life you want and pay people more then that’s your choice. You make the rules it’s your business.
Third, you can put people on profit sharing plans or revenue sharing plans (we teach this in our Million Dollar Business Secrets program). So if the company does well they will earn X amount on performance and you’ll also make great money.
So, in summary, you make the rules and you decide what goes where but don’t forget you deserve the money you earn. You setup your business and started it, no one else did that.
Let me know if you have more questions 🙂
I have been reading your emails for a while now. Thank you for the practical approach to be financially free.
I just wanted to say that I am impressed by the depth of responses from Jesse Eker here on the comments so far. I’ve seen so many websites where comments go unanswered so my hats off to you guys for caring enough to address people’s concerns.
Thanks, Andy! I truly appreciate that. Sorry for my delay here 🙂 We’re all in this together – true or true!?
thank you for your e-mail
I started these days my project taking courage from your book and your principles
And definetly I am not going to quit ; I am going to be a billionaire you will see my name on the list .
Awesome share Harv!
Thank you for sharing this and I really do appreciate it. You are right Harv that there are things that Rich people are willing to do while average won’t do it such as work harder I mean really really really hard, developing themselves, and by making a decision to take action.
Have a great day!
jeng
Thanks, Harv. I like you. I’d like to become like you. Maybe someday.
Hi Ekers,
Than you for the infographic. Love it.
Principle #1 The universe gives only what we can handle. I honestly believe this and have actively been working on expanding this.
Can you give some example of how we can expand what we can handle, wealth, health, and love? May some concert exercise we can do or focus on to expand?
Regards,
Ryan
Hi Harv. Your teachings really help me since I started with you I did see a million in my bank acc. And working to see a billion now. Please keep it up the good work guys. Be blessed
