Have you ever heard the quote, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone?”
If so, I’m guessing that you probably nodded and thought, “Yeah, that’s probably true,” then realized that you’re too busy or too unsure to even think about changing things up right now.
You’ll think more about it tomorrow or after you finish working or driving the kids to soccer or getting through your to-do list, or whatever. Well, let me tell you something: today is “tomorrow,” and I’m going to challenge you to think about that thing you keep putting off right here, right now.
If you’re ready to take the next step, watch my video above, or read on for more.
While most of us would agree that we don’t enjoy being uncomfortable or even that we “don’t like change,” probably none of us would say that we don’t want to grow. True or true?!
It’s like I always say, “If you’re not growing, you’re automatically dying.”
We know on a basic level that growth is what it’s all about, but our natural inclination is to stay put because it’s comfortable, and if we’re honest with ourselves, growth can hurt a little bit.
Our comfort zones are generally reliable places where we can catch our breath in a crazy world, but it’s easy to get stuck there without even realizing that’s what’s happening.
Getting out of your comfort zone means dealing with discomfort
If we’re honest with ourselves, we’re all our own harshest critics, and nobody likes doing things “badly.” So sticking with what we know, and with what we’ve become good at seems like the simplest way to make sure we keep winning.
But staying in that comfort zone also keeps us stuck, predictable, and small. If you want some change in your life you have to be willing to tolerate some level of imperfection as you explore what’s just outside of your reach.
It can feel difficult and scary to get outside of your comfort zone
If it didn’t, then breaking out of your comfort zone would be easy, and we’d do it all the time. Here’s the thing though: you can’t just do it one time and expect real change. You have to be willing to add stepping out of your comfort zone into your regular practice.
According to Brené Brown, “The willingness to show up changes us. It makes us a little braver each time.”
That means, the more we push our personal boundaries, the stronger we become, and the less moved we are by that little voice in our heads that tries to keep us safe by keeping us afraid. In order to reprogram your mind so you can push past the fear, you have to discover the limiting beliefs that are stopping you from moving forward.
Your beliefs create your reality. They have a huge impact on how you feel and what you do, and they provide the lens through which you experience everything. To put it simply:
- Your beliefs lead to your thoughts,
- Your thoughts create your feelings,
- Your feelings translate into action (or inaction),
- And your actions are responsible for your results in life.
If you want a little help identifying your limiting beliefs, then I have a free worksheet that can help you.
It’s really easy to fall into the trap of never pushing your comfort zone. The problem with this is that it often prevents you from true success and happiness in life. That’s because one of the best ways to grow is to test the limits of what most people consider “normal” to live the life you want.
So, if you’re ready to push yourself toward living that Level 10 Life, here are five things you can do to grow beyond your comfort zone:

5 Tips To Push Past Your Comfort Zone & Be Unstoppable
Step 1 – Learn as much as you can
Anxiety usually comes from a fear of the unknown. Usually, we imagine the worst-case scenario of what could happen when we push past the boundaries of what makes us feel safe.
To break through your comfort zone, you need to first educate yourself. Your goal here is to find out about whatever skill or activity you’re pursuing.
So what can you do?
Talk to people who have done the same thing.
Read books on the subject.
Information is power. And the more you know about something, the less scary it will seem, and the more powerful you’ll feel.

Step 2 – Have A Plan
After you’ve done your research, you want to create a plan of action.
Write down a step-by-step blueprint for what you want to do. Just start with a small step, and make a plan to get from one level to the next. Be sure to create benchmarks along the way, and identify any challenges you think you might face along the way, and what you’ll do to get past those roadblocks.

Step 3 – Hold Yourself Accountable
Accountability is another key to breaking through your comfort zone.
Tell your friends and family about what you’re trying to do.
This is an important step because the people in your life will keep you on track and give you that “push” you’ll need as you’re pushing your boundaries.

Tell friends and family your plan so they can hold you accountable.
Step 4 – Take Baby Steps, but Keep Moving Forward
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” — Lao Tzu
You’ll never get where you want to go unless you GET GOING! True or true?!
Once you have a plan in place taking that first step will be crucial.
Taking “baby steps” is a great way to lessen those feelings of fear. Don’t focus on becoming an overnight success.
Instead, focus on steadily pushing the boundaries of your comfort levels and working towards your goal.
