I’ve talked a lot about those 14 years of my life where I struggled, I mean really struggled, financially.
It was the toughest time of my life. But ultimately it was a good thing because it led me to where I am today — helping you and millions of others get on the road to financial freedom.
My business is successful because money issues are a big pain point for so many people. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
People are most likely to give you their hard-earned money when you’re solving their problems.
So what struggles can you help people with?
And what’s the best way to go about it (while still getting rich, of course)?
Not sure? No problem! I’ve got an easy five-step exercise to help you figure that out.
Grab a pen and some paper, and let’s get rolling:
People are most likely to give you their hard-earned money when you’re solving their problems. So what can you help people with? Here's an easy 5-step exercise to help you figure that out. Grab a pen and some paper, and… Click To TweetSTEP 1 — Identify Your Personal Pain-Points
First, make a list of every single one of your personal struggles. Anything from having trouble opening a jar to having a major health scare counts.
Big or small, they’re all problems.
With eight billion people in the world, I can guarantee hundreds, maybe thousands, maybe millions are not only dealing with the same thing but are completely willing to pay someone to help them. (This could be you!)
STEP 2 — Identify Creative Solutions For Your Painpoints
Now I want you to make a new list using your first one as a starting point. Just take the problems or pain-points on your original list and try to find solutions for each of them.
Annoyed by having to lug your bags around the airport — from your home to the airport, on and off the plane, then to your hotel at your destination? Maybe the solution is to create a service that people would pay for that can get your bag door to door.
Not sure when the food in your refrigerator is spoiled? How about creating customizable Tupperware or food storage bags that can tell you exactly when your food expires?
See how simple it can be?
Before we move on, take a moment to soak in the new list. Let yourself feel that pride and satisfaction for coming up with these simple solutions!
It takes strength, determination, creativity, and often guts to push through problems and offer ideas to combat them. If you can do that, clearly you’ve got what it takes to succeed financially, too, true or true?
So why focus on problems you’ve solved?
One, because as you just saw, it feels good.
And two, because people need to believe you get what they’re going through and know the way out. Makes sense, right?
STEP 3 — Identify Your Strengths
For your third list, write down what you’re good at. Just like step one, include everything.
This might be tricky if you’re one of the many, many people who doesn’t like to talk about their strengths.
One way to get past this is to pretend you’re your own agent. Agents have no problem spouting off each and everything their clients do well. (And by the way, you might want to keep this hint in your back pocket. It’s helpful when you get to the marketing part of the business, too.)
When you’re done, take a minute to look over what you wrote. That list right there is what makes you unique, what makes you stand out, what makes you, YOU.
Embracing your strengths and being consistently authentic goes a long way to getting people’s attention, their trust, AND their money.
STEP 4 — Identify What You Enjoy Doing (That You’re Also Good At)
Now it’s time to edit your list of personal strengths.
Write down the skills and talents that you actually like using AND are really, really good at.
Capitalizing on your biggest strengths that you also have a passion for will not only make you more successful, it’ll make getting to that success a heck of a lot easier… and fun!
STEP 5 — Merge Your Identified Solutions To Problems With Your Strengths & Passions
The last step is simple but powerful:
I want you to put lists two and four next to each other.
Read through both lists, and try to look for any combinations of solutions to problems with personal skills and passions.
Write down everything that jumps out at you, even if you’re not sure how you’d turn those ideas into a product or service.
And if you find yourself getting excited, having an “aha!” moment —or a strong gut-feeling about something — consider that a path to explore as your potential million-dollar business idea!
Take your time to do this step. You may have gotten specific business ideas right off the bat, or you may need to sit with things awhile.
Both are fine. You can always brainstorm possibilities later.
In fact, there’s a good chance your best ideas will pop into your head out of nowhere, too!
