Do you need a digital detox? If you spend your days staring at a computer screen and on your phone, answering emails, talking to clients, managing employees, and so forth, you’d probably benefit from a digital detox — also known as an unplugged vacation.
You have control of your company, and it is running smoothly and successfully. Your business is healthy, but are you?
You may think that you’re too busy to take a vacation, but sometimes you need to reboot, relax, and recharge your body, spirit, and mind. And to truly do so, you need to unplug the computer, power off your tablet, and step away from your phone.
To “vacate your life” on a vacation or a staycation, you need to completely unplug from work and commit to a digital detox.
Watch this video to discover why:
Three steps to take advantage of your digital detox:
Remember that electronics bombard us with waves of information that take away from our heart, spirit, and soul.
A digital detox will allow you to return to your business after your vacation feeling refreshed and recharged, but only if you are able to fully relax during your time away.
Consider these three steps to take full advantage of your digital detox:
1. Keep Your Vacation Plans to a Minimum
While an adventure is always exciting, it isn’t always relaxing. Keep your vacation plans to a minimum. Don’t create a detailed itinerary requiring you to rush from one activity to another.
While structure is beneficial in your business, it causes stress when on vacation. It’s okay if you spend the day lying on the beach, on the golf course, or simply going shopping.
2. Consider a Staycation
Traveling the world may be on your bucket list, but long-distance travel isn’t always a great idea, especially if your objective is to fully recharge. Why? Because if you’re spending an extended period at the airport, in the air, or driving, you aren’t spending that time relaxing. True or true?
Consider planning your vacation locally so that you spend the majority of your vacation time relaxing and doing what makes you happy.
3. Take Time for You
While a week-long vacation in the Bahamas sounds ideal, sometimes that long of a break from work is impossible. Instead, take advantage of the time you have.
Do you have a three-day weekend? Check into a luxury hotel or spa, get a massage, and order room service. Did you have a long stressful day and have a meeting at 8:00 AM tomorrow? Then unplug your devices and do whatever makes you happy. Then get a good night’s sleep so that you are prepared for work in the morning.
Above all, be sure that your vacation includes a complete digital detox so that you are focused on your own relaxation, rather than what’s happening in the news, on social media, or in your email.
Prioritize Your Happiness
If you feel overwhelmed by work – or life in general – you should take time off. A digital detox allows you to unwind and rejuvenate. If you don’t take time for yourself, you may feel the effects both physically and emotionally.
