When it comes to finding success, it’s important to stay focused on one intention at a time. That way, you don’t go down other paths that distract you from your goals.
Stay Focused on One Intention at a Time
Over the last couple of weeks, there has been some amazing feedback to my blogs about the power of our intentions and how that affects what we go after in life. I wanted to discuss why it’s important to stay focused and how we go about implementing our intentions.
I’m sure at least some of you have heard this before. Imagine you’re either looking to buy or sell a home, as a consumer or as an agent. What are the three most important words in real estate? Location, location, location! It takes skill and experience to negotiate, and knowledge to get a good deal done, but in the end the most important aspect of real estate is simple. Location determines a bunch, yes or yes?
Now take this approach toward success. What would be the three most important words when it comes to getting what you want? What’s the simplest thing we need to know?
Focus, focus, focus!
The Power of Intention and Concentration
Intention is powerful—it’s the fuel that gets us going and moving. Without direction, we could end up going the wrong way! So, in addition to intention we need concentration. We need to focus our energy in a single, unified direction. That’s what allows us to use our full power versus scattering it.
Another one of those no-brainers, right? But it’s one of those things that’s easy to know, yet easy to forget, and harder to make into a solid principle of action. I know because I was there.
Back in the day I had a wholesale jewelry business that was doing okay—not great—but not too bad for that stage in my life. Then I got an offer to sell hats wholesale. Then T-shirts. Then something else. I figured I already had a client base from the first business, so why not? “Sell more, make more!” Guess how that turned out?
My income went all the way from about $700 or $800 a week to losing about $500 a week. I couldn’t understand why. I didn’t get it. So you know what I did? I went and got a job!
Don’t Let Fear Disrupt Your Focus
See where loss of concentration can take us? It’s the classic case of jack of all trades, master of none. You get all these irons going in the fire, but it’s mostly because of fear that you’re not going to make it if you just focus on one thing. If you were to put 100% of your energy into one thing, there’s a real good chance you would find success.
Successful people are good at aligning all of their energy toward a single direction. Think of it like a rocket at takeoff. It takes much more energy getting off the ground than to get to where it’s going. It’s the same with us. Once you’re well into the journey and you’re doing very well, that’s when you diversify!
So at the beginning of any business, you need to trust yourself and stay focused. You need every single ounce of energy focused on the same spot in the same direction.
If you know what I’m talking about, please share your story with the community. What are some of your revelations and discovers about the staying focused and the power of intention? How did you go from ‘Duh!’ to ‘Aha!”? We want to hear from you!

Thank you so much for such a great article! And it’s coming up at a great time. I understand being the jack of all trades yet the master of none. There are so many things I want to do in life that I find myself often getting overwhelmed and not doing as well as I should be. At this current time I’m starting up a business that I have great interest in and one of my fears has been “But what about everything else?” I’ve been so focused on it, and I want to continue to be, but I was fearful that I would not be able to do everything else. But then I read this and it just confirmed to me that it’s a good thing to put everything I have in this and when I get to that point of full success with this venture I can begin in other areas! Thanks again!

I am at a point now in my life, that I cannot just :”get a job”, I have to focus on my own business with lots of effort and also have a job, my finances are that poor. I cannot pay my college loans on just one job, I have to NOT settle for anything less than a complete promotion from my last one, with more money to pay off my loans and have money to spend on my own business. I must focus on both, I wish I could just focus on one, yet in the beginning of a business there is not enough money coming in to survive.

Hey Katie, I can really relate to your story. I’ve been having some cash flow difficulties in the sense that my business is not bringing me enough income to live just on that, on top of that I have a house loan. So I also have another job to get by. And I am continuously struggling to devote enough attention to my business as opposed to my job, knowing quite well if I devoted more time to my business, there would be better results. But the grip of everyday financial obligations is quite scary some time. I now asked a bank to freeze my loan for some time so I can devote more time to my business and less to my job, which may (or may not) affect my income flow. I am hoping for the better. Wishing you all the best, Sanja

It is true. I agree. When you are offering financial services to people is it okay to stay associated with two or three companies to offer their products to people. I mean Life Insurance, Health Insurance and Mutual Funds. I actually find it hard to focus on the target market. It is not always the same.

I totally agree with what Stacy said. I am starting my business as well and going through the motions with finding time to do everything. I am in the midst of a book collaboration and trying to focus on my business at the same time. I want to do other things as well and feel overwhelmed…still working a full time job. After reading this and taking your MDBS course I do realize that I need to say no to everything until I can get my business system moving and then diversify later. Thanks.

i am just resigned from a job for about 3 months. I am doing so many jobs in order to produce the income replacement with the one i received before. i wanted to focus into one business but as usual for a business to give the return, it will take time. I am still focusing to get income but from multiple sources of income.
