Trust Yourself and Have Everlasting Success

Reading Time: 4 minutes

December 5, 2017 By T. Harv Eker 15 Comments

Many people don’t trust themselves. It’s something I’ve seen in everyone from my students to myself. However, just as I learned how to move past it, I’ve taught my students how to as well. And today, I’m going to teach you too. After all, if you can’t trust yourself, you can’t get rich.

Learn the Fastest Way to Trust Yourself and Build Confidence

If you trusted yourself, why would you fear anything? You wouldn’t. However, I’d say 99% of people do not trust themselves. This causes them chaos in their normal life, as the effects of this distrust bleed out.

Where My Trust Came From

Trust, like anything else, comes from repetition. Trust is a habit. Let me give you an example.

I had a car in the late ‘60s. In those days I couldn’t afford a great car. Instead, I had to buy a used one. When it was cold, the chances of my car starting were about 50/50. I had to go out early, try to start it, and wait and see. In fact, even when it did start, it would stall almost half the time you were driving it.

Because of all this uncertainty, I was scared to death every time I got in the car. “Is it going to start? Am I going to get to school?” I didn’t know.

My anxiety about whether the car would start extended even after I would arrive at my destination. I found not being sure — even if it was in the past — embarrassing. It made me feel overall more nervous about myself. From my car issues, I didn’t know how to trust myself. If this sounds familiar, you probably don’t know how to trust yourself either.

Building Trust

Today, do you think I trust that my car is going to start? Yes. I do because it’s started a thousand times in a row. In all those times, I haven’t had any issues with it.

So how do you learn to trust something? If my example tells you anything, you learn to trust a result when it repeats again an again.

Now how do you learn to trust yourself? By getting the same result again and again until you say, “Of course I trust this result. I expect it. I trust that this situation is going to happen.”

Start with one tiny little win. I’m talking about smaller goals. It’s one tiny win. That’s all. When people learn not to trust themselves, it’s usually because they’re taking on too much.

How to Build Confidence

If you want to actually follow through on a New Year’s resolution like, say, losing some weight to look and feel better — and it’s been years since you’ve paid attention to this sort of thing — forget about exercise routines and healthy eating plans, for now, if they’ve never worked before. How about trying just one new habit?

How about a healthy meal, one meal? If you feel like you can commit to more than one, that’s great. Do two meals or two days or whatever works. However, can you commit to at least one healthy meal?

What would one healthy breakfast look like? How hard is that? You’re not looking at a lunch. You just say, “Tomorrow for breakfast I’m having a healthy shake.” You do. That’s your breakfast. Then you can eat lunch two hours later and decide then what choice you’re going to make.

Then experiment with that for a week, and maybe give yourself two days off of doing it — maybe you choose to, maybe you don’t. The point is not to make this about pressure at first. Small wins here matter more than the big picture ahead. Trust that you’ll get to that.

All you started with was one healthy breakfast, and you set it up so you could win. When you win, you gain confidence. When you gain confidence, you gain trust. Get enough small wins, then you take on bigger goals.

I swear you’ll realize one day, “Wow, I’ve been doing this for weeks, and it really wasn’t that hard. Now I’m ready for… ” whatever that is for you.

The Far-Reaching Effects

Whatever the goal, it’s all the same. If you’re not trusting yourself in one area of your life, you probably don’t trust yourself in other ways either. A lack of trust affects you across conceived mental boundaries. The content just changes. While this time it may be eating, the next time it’s business. The next time it’s your relationship.

Just as these problems are connected, the solutions can be too. If you trust yourself, a lot of the issues you have in your life would just disappear.

Tell us what you think. Does any of this ring true for you? Share your experiences with the subject of learning to trust oneself. We want to hear from you!

For Your Freedom,
trust yourself

Wow. Ok. I am in a smoke free rental that’s become the opposite. A young guy who was breaking into my old place is still breaking in this one. Had to call police a few days ago, simply want this guy busted once and for all. By the time I moved into this up upstairs apt I was completely depleted. Three years of so much crap you would not believe from what was supposed to be my home. I had no money to move. Fast forward…3 years here dealing with trying to catch this guy and now staying sick due to allergies, cig smoke..once again. I have no.funds for moving. Thinking of all this….I put in my notice to move December 1st. I had no plan, no funds, Ive had moments of fear tears lol. I have a teen and several cats depending on me to wave a magic wand and perform a miracle! Omg. Have I gone mad?! What the hell am I doing?! Brand new apts have been built in a part of town I want to live in but never have. Most businesses are moving to this part of town as well. Planet (I can afford) Fitness is across the street. I have a new place! If all goes as planned I can move next week!. If you want a test in trust…try the roof over your head trust! How am I going to get it all moved is still.not a given but hey, I have a brand new smoke free living space coming! A Christmas miracle! A lesson in trust!

This resonates with me and I can totally relate to this idea of taking small steps. This is how things often worked for me, even when I was unconscious of taking small steps in one direction.
