Happiness. We all want it, but somehow, very few of us will actually find true happiness. Why? Because our brain isn’t wired for happiness – it’s wired for survival. The good news is, you can learn how to overcome your natural way of thinking to become truly happy.
Watch my video above (or read on below) to learn how.
Why Your Brain Isn’t Wired For Happiness
Thousands of studies and hundreds of books have been published with the goal of helping people lead happier, more satisfying lives. So, why aren’t we happier?
Even though we make great strides to improve our happiness, could it all be a futile attempt to swim against the tide? Are we actually programmed to be unhappy?
As I mention in my video, our minds are conditioned for self-preservation. Think of your brain as a bodyguard who goes into a room and checks every corner for what might go wrong, constantly looking for any scary thing that could be hiding in the corner waiting to get us.
While that bodyguard does a great job of keeping us from stepping into traffic or spending our mortgage money on a big-screen TV, it can also keep us from being happy.
So, how do we go from surviving to thriving? How do we get beyond our natural bias toward negativity and move from discontent to happiness?
It’s simple. We have to train our mental bodyguard to stand down. Learning how to be happy means making the choice to be happy.
Happiness Is A Choice
Sure, your brain might set off sirens when you decide to start that business, reminding you of all the things that could go wrong. But it’s up to you to acknowledge the fear, recognize the discontent, and choose to change your focus — to choose happiness. Every day, practice focusing on the good, even when life might look less than positive. The more we look at the glass as half full, the less we see what might be missing.
Even people who seem to have it all would agree that no amount of money or things can change our lives and make us happier. Happiness is a choice we make daily, regardless of what might be happening around us. The more we choose to be happy, the happier we’ll be. It’s that simple.
If you want happiness, start practicing happiness now.
The key is to enjoy the process, enjoy the journey. We can have moments of perfection, times where we wouldn’t want a single thing to change, but it’s unfair and unrealistic to ask that of life all the time. But it’s totally within our control to practice being whatever we want to be right now!
