Practicing Happiness

Practice makes perfect, right? Wrong!
First of all, nothing’s ever perfect. I’d even say you don’t really want anything to be “perfect.” Why not? Well, once you’ve reached it, where else is there to go but backwards or, even worse, nowhere?
No, the point of practice isn’t perfection. We want to strive for perfection, yes, but that’s only going to work if you understand that it’s not just about the destination but the journey as well. That’s why it helps to look at the process when it comes to those outcomes we’re reaching for. Because what would be the point of getting to where you always wanted to be if you’re beat up and worn out by the time you get there? Where’s the happiness in that?
Happiness is a process as much as an outcome. Don’t get me wrong – a hard-earned victory is awesome. But think about it; should happiness in life be restricted to success in finances, or business, or career, or the attainment of goals?
We have all been there at some point in our lives, saying something like, “If only I had [fill in the blank], I’d be so much happier.” Hey, sometimes we may even get whatever it is we think will make us happy, but what usually ends up happening? We’re psyched for a little while—if at all—and then we find out it wasn’t really enough to make us as happy as we thought it would. There’s always more.
You can work your butt off to get to where you want to be by practicing your delivery, your backhand swing, your investment strategies—you can practice anything until you get it down, but that doesn’t mean things are always going to turn out perfectly. Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice becomes habit, and habits become permanent unless we consciously change them. We’re practicing something all the time through our habits, even when we’re not really thinking about it. If you practice the thought that “I’ll be happy when [fill in the blank] happens,” then guess what? You’re always delaying your happiness until [fill in the bank] happens. Not because things will never be great, but because you’ve become a master at being unhappy. Unhappiness will be your habit!
You have to practice being happy no matter what is going on in life; whether you win or lose, succeed or experience temporary setbacks, whether everything is the way you have always dreamed or if you are still on the road to your next major destination.
Practice whatever you want to be in the future now. If you want to be more patient and less reactionary, then practice patience now. If you want to be a manager of your own personal wealth, start managing your finances now no matter how much money you earn. If you want to be successful, then practice being successful now. Start small. Engage in things that you’re already good at and challenge yourself to be better, even if it’s just in small increments.
The key is to enjoy the process and the journey. We can have moments of perfection, times where we wouldn’t want a single thing to change, but it’s unfair and unrealistic to ask that of life all the time. But it’s totally within our control to practice being whatever we want to be right now!
So now it’s your turn: What are you going to practice right now? What’s that one thing you want to achieve and are willing to enjoy the process while making it a habit? We want to hear from you!

I am going to practice consistently working out, as working has occluded my health for the last many years. I am starting a climbing/ conditioning class tonight !
Tara,
How was the class?
Tara, its going on for 3 weeks now; how is your new “practice” going?
Steve
Parece pequeno trecho mais com grande sentido de lição de vida, porque pensamos sempre a vida melhorar quando…quando…a vida fica cheia de tantos quandos incontáveis e o tempo vai-se,gostei
Happiness is something I’ve been contemplating deeply lately so it didn’t surprise me when I received this post about happiness from one of my favorite teachers, YOU!
I hear people ask often “what makes you happy?” when it seems to me that the question might better be, “what does being happy make you?”
It’s a great conversation…
I love that ‘ What does being happy make you?” Thanks Elisabeth, that was a bonus to Harv’s post and I will start using that when I talk to people. Take care!
Elizabeth, this is my thoughts exactly. When I help my clients to feel good about themselves I am happy and the happiness runs through to going home and working in my garden I feel so good; I guess being happy makes me busy! I don’t alway accomplish my goals and I have setbacks but I keep on trying.
Elisabeth,
Thank you for the kind words!
Elisabeth, that’s fantastic! I too am always asked why I am so happy. My answer: why not? I don’t have to be unhappy do I? Never!
I did Sales and Leadership Mastery with Blair Singer last weekend and it made my life even better (I now understand something about my wife of 27 years that I didn’t know before!!). This will help me improve my marriage over the next 27 years!
Steve
Hey Steve
Thanks for the reminder… yes, yes, yes…..’why not – I don’t have to be unhappy if I don’t want to, do I?’
And being unhappy does not help anybody including u.
One of the things I wish to become is a great theatre actor, and get paid well for it.
Victor,
You can DO IT! Never give up!
Thanks Harv. You are such a great teacher. Am going to practice following my intuition all the time.
Victor, just focus on it and it will happen. I love it when my young son says he wants an ice cream and we (parents) say not but he keeps on insisting. Somehow he always gets his ice cream but not from us! The universe will deliver for you if that is truly your passion.
Steve
I’m happy with that!
This was a big revelation to me following post natal depression two years ago. No one else is responsible for my happiness but me. It’s my call how I choose to react to situations around me and to get rid of the poor me/victim mentality. Once I got a grip on this concept I’ve moved onward and upward at a rapid rate. Thanks Harv for the reminder to keep a close check on my thoughts.
As you say Harv, practice makes permanent, but practising the wrong thing provides us with absolutely no benefit. That’s why it is important to learn from people that have already achieved what you want to achieve and practice what they do.
That said, there is no point learning anything from anyone unless you are happy and content with your life’s journey.
MMI opened up my eyes in 2011 to many things both at a personal level and in my business. I am now who I want to be as opposed to being who others wanted me to be. Am I happy? Yes I am!
Thanks for MMI Harv, and thanks for the Quantum Leap program also. Both were good value compared to many other “opportunities” out there.
I am going to practice talking to strangers and finding out something about them.
Stania, when you do tell me how you do it. I can stand up in front of a crowd of people and speak but I haven’t been able to walk up to a stranger and talk to them. I need to work on this too!
Steve
Steve, connection starts with the smile. Next time, look at the stranger, smile. If the stranger respond, you can open up a conversation by complimenting about the weather, environment, or even what you like/see from that person (could be color of his/her clothing, their eyes, or their smile, etc…). The most important thing to remember here is you want to leave them at a better place than before they met you.
Good luck, Steve!
Every day is Another Day in Paradise for me, I practised this until it became my truth – and it IS another day in paradise – always 🙂
Now, taking a lesson that I experienced with you at MTS – my focus is every day practising to accept myself, and know that I am enough, I am worthy and deserve the successes that I create.
GREAT!
Being healthy! I’ve put my health on the back burner for TOO long! This will not only include working out but making better food choices and drinking MORE water! For past 3 weeks I’ve been consistent in working out so well on my way. This WILL be MY year!
I will practice making good investments in online marketing.
That is a very wise idea to practice. We all have been guilty of making some poor investments before we find the right ones. All the best.
I always find easy to practice happiness at all times by gratitude. Realizing.. seeing what I’ve been given / have now simple / small things which many not . . .
Thank you to all for what I have / given right now.
HAPPINESS IS TAKING THE TIME TO TAKE MY GRANDCHILDREN WITH ME WHILE I RUN MY DAILY ERRONS, INTRODUCING THEM TO MY FRIENDS AND SHOWING THEM HOW TO BE NICE TO OTHERS AS WELL AS WHEN TO BE CAREFUL AND BE AWARE OF WHATS HAPPENING AROUND US TEACHING THEM TO BE HAPPY AND EXCITED TO LEARN IS MY HAPPY.
My vision is to take the No EGO clothing brand global. However, I am practicing the habit of being greatfull for every client I get to serve .
And the clients will come! I wish you much success. I have been in your shoes and know the roller coaster ride all too well. But looking back I must agrees with those that have gone before me and said this to me, the ride is the adventure so be grateful to be going through it.
It’s all about baby steps forward for me without giant steps backwards or I’m doomed.
Tommy, just keep walking. You might not walk in a straight line but you will eventually get to where you want to be. Don’t look back!
Steve
Hi Harv,
It’s so true about enjoy the journey and every steps we’re doing. I’ve never strive for perfect as I also learned that everything can be improved, “good is enough is good enough” is my term.
Thanks,
Yot
Love it and happens to be what I was just thinking about. I read that whatever you are thinking you are planning. So then also equipped with the formula thoughts lead to feelings which lead to actions…… It makes sense to have consciously happy thoughts.
FIRST AND FOREMOST, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR INFLUENCING THE WORLD WITH THE INVESTMENT OF YOUR PERSONALITY. IT IS INDEED NOT A SURPRISE THAT YOU ARE SUCH A SUCCESS BECAUSE WHAT YOU MAKE HAPPEN TO OTHERS GOD WILL MAKE HAPPEN TO YOU. AS FOR TODAY LECTURE, I WILL PRACTISE TAKING CHARGE OF MIND. BECOMING THE DETERMING FACTOR OF WHAT TO THINK AND WHAT NOT TO THINK. I WILL PRACTICE RENEWING MY MIND WITH THE RIGHT MATERIALS NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS. I WILL WORK ON UPGRADING MYSELF POSITIVELY. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR DEDICATING YOUR LIFE FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE UPCOMING GENERATION. SIR, INDEED YOU SOWING THE GOOD SEED AND GOD WILL REWARD YOU ABUNDANTLY.
Harv, you are talking about practicing Happiness For No Reason. The best resource I have ever seen on that is the book by Marci Shimoff “Happiness for no reason”! It’s just outstanding!!! I recommend it strongly to everybody who’s ready to be happy! Yiiiiha!
Asan, thanks. Did you know that Marci Shimoff said “Stephen Whiteley’s Happiness Works! Get Yours Here! can help you raise your happiness level beyond what you think is possible.” Hope this helps. http://www.tinyurl.com/7ptppu5.
Harv, what a wonderful message! Happiness is a state that comes from within, not given by external factors…It is very close to my heart because, in working with people facing a loss in their lives, I’ve come to realize more and more, the value of our attitude and knowing that happiness is a process…brings hope to their hearts. My vision s to take my system of transformation to the next level and for that….I feel grateful and happy for each person who is touched by either the workshop or the support group. Have a beautiful day!
Wow i didnt think of that. This has just hit me like a ton of bricks. I’ve become unhappy and its because its my habit that i have formed from not being happy consistently. I will practice being happy consistently. “Be Do Have”. Holy crap no wonder im not happy. Thanks a bunch harv and keep up the amazing work
I am practicing being happy WHILE I am managing my finances and money as opposed to waiting till I have it all organized and under control.
I love you Harv – will you marry me 🙂 Ha Ha but I do just love who you are & what you are doing for the world. Bring on Global Happiness. & for anyone whos says it’s not possible – it is so there 🙂 Bring it on.
I say the more people that learn to believe in themselves, have greater selfworth & consciousness the less need there will be for everyone to guard and protect so there will be less of the ‘unnecessary’ hurt, pain and anger that is caused by misunderstandings, misinterpretations, unconscious survival behaviours & mechanisms. Nor will there be a need to spend as much time on worrying and guarding/protecting ourselves, so we’ll all be in a better position and mindset to care, help, support and uplift each other yay. Imagine the fun we can have if we were all about uplifting each other and caring about each other – bring on Global Happiness 🙂 Love to you all Annie
I wish to practice more mindfulness in order to enjoy each moment more fully and not let time slip by. I too believed for years that success was an important ingredient for happiness but now, as I am a bit older and wiser, I came to the conclusion that it may well be the other way around. Happiness is an important ingredient for success. One of my all time favorite quote that woke me up to that reality is this one: :
“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”
― Albert Schweitzer
Therefore be it folding towels, emptying the dishwasher, driving, doing energy healing sessions with people ….I want to practice being mindful, grateful and genuinely happy , then each moment will be a success just because I AM in that state. It’s about being, not doing.
Thanks Harv this fantastic article!
I will practice and be happy now as if it had reached my goal.
Pensare I have already achieved my goal is to live the Internet this year 2013
with CPA marketing and achieve my financial freedom.
Hugs and much success!
Dani
All the best in achieving your goal Dani.
Thanks Glenn for your comment.
I wish you much happiness and abundance in your life!
Thanks Dani. How is the CPA market working out for you? Is the health and wellness market your main one? Are you open to looking at other ways to connect with this market? You can always reach me at glenn@glennwatson.ca
All the best ~ Glenn
I want to be a great teacher, but while I’m getting experience I choose to be happy and enjoy the good things that I’m living in my job and in my life.
Thanks for spreading these wise and empowering thoughts.
Adrian
Adrian, no matter how old you are you have experience. My 14 year old daughter has been a teacher for 5 years! She teaches the younger students in her ballet school. All you get with time is more experience.
Steve
Showing my gratitude for everything I have and for the opportunity to make it even better is something I am going to practice more everyday!
Glenn, have you been practising? Steve
I agree with when we happy we have more energy to do other thing that exciting and focus on it. That is great time to learn or start something that important with our financial or business or always in process make our relationship. To see result we just do with small things at first time. With many small things our ability improve help we natural decide to do with big things then we can achieve big result. And if we don’t do with any small things, don’t built anything then never get perfect.
So right Chu, one small step at a time!
Nothing is ever a coincidence…while learning from another awesome coach sent to me to watch today…I was challenged to write down a committment… “to create Happiness without Doubt”, I wrote. and I do believe, God just sent me his first sign…time to get happy! I was even sent instructions and a really cool messenger! Wow, double blessing! It’s gonna be a good week-end! AMEN. Thank you.. T!
Jeanette, its amazing where all these “coincidences” come from when you have the right mindset!
Steve
Hi Harv
Thanks for your post cos it has change a lot of things in may life and not only my life but so many peoples life. U are a great teacher and my dream will be to be able to inspire people above life,to be a teacher like u.
Hi Harv
Thanks for your post cos it has change a lot of things in may life and not only my life but so many peoples life. U are a great teacher and my dream will be to be able to inspire people about life and also to be a teacher like u.
Great post, actually great reminder of something I think “I know” but tend to easily forget… because “knowing” is not enough – “being” makes the difference – so I will practice “being happy” right now, unemployed, about to lose my apartment, but happy because this might be an exciting beginning to something new (like being successfully self-employed?) and the end of struggle. Thank you Harv.
As the old saying goes Janette, “as one door closes another opens”. It is how we look at what is about to open that makes all the difference. If we believe it to be more of the same, guess what? Forget what was once behind you and close the door and you will be at the beginning of something new! All the best ~ Glenn
Thanks, Harv. I practice enjoyment in every moment of my day. If I am working at my computer, I put on some music or do something to make whatever project I’m doing enjoyable. If I’m out on a nature walk, I take time to stop and enjoy the view and listen to the birds. No matter what I do, I make it enjoyable if I can. When I go to bed, I run through a list of things I’m grateful for. It’s great to make enjoyment a habit. Great article.
Recientemente asistí al evento de intensivo de la mente millonaria 3 días en Madrid, y solo puedo deciros… ¡GRACIAS!
your lessons really helpful
i will practice silence to observe more knowledge from a successful people like you.
We need your Millionarie Mind Intensive in Brazil, please!
Thanks again for the lesson!
I am going to practice feeling rich and wealthy right now. Also feeling naturally high right now. That’s why people want wealth so, the can feel naturally high and they can feel that way right now.
Thank you.
“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants” (Isaac Newton)
Thank you Harv for allowing us to stand on your shoulders!
Sempre aprendo muito com os seus ensinamentos.
Grato!

I am going to practice being my own best friend. I am going to practice being KIND to myself, listening to the voice of reason, kicking the devil to the curb; pulling the weeds and feeding the flowers.
It’s like this: Take a deep breath and say ” I’m happy”. Say it again when breathing out. Just for five minutes a day. Do it for 21 days. Then it becomes a habit.
Thanks for that Shankar … I will add that to my daily routine. I’m happy to have read your comment! Take care ~ Glenn
Be Do Have happy every day, in every way, while caring for my brother and his wife, building my coaching practice, reading books, listening to CDs. Building and appreciating new relationships while sharing Your Wish Is Your Command 14 CD set with action takers.
The lady with the long post natal depression should consider it can be a deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acids which get drained the last trimester and levels should be checked in pregnant women but are not
So if you start off low and can’t go anywhere but lower
I am going to practice successful person by thinking positive, acting positive to everything happened in my life. And the other things I have done is, writing to cheque amounted 1,500,000.00 and one cheque amounted 500,000.00. I did not know how I’m going to get it but I keep believing that one day I will have that money. And I put the cheque in my wallet so that eveyday I can see it. Everyday,I listened to motivational tape, watching inspiration/motivational video, reading books from successful people. At the first time,It was very hard for me,but now it become my habit. Thanks GOD!
It is clear that I must change my habits, thees lessons are rally a grate help to make it clear to me the way I can do it.
This is very true Harv. Look how we have been practicing to focus on what we don’t have, all the problems we have and going to have? I think we need to practice focusing on happy moments and enjoy it.
So true Sandra, so many people focus on how bad things are, what they don’t have and the problem is the media and big business thrive on it. Thank goodness for people like Harv who show us the other side and how happy we can all be with so little effort. Just change how we think and believe.
.
Thank you Harv for sharing a great wisdom. I am happy and I want to be a wealth creation manager. Thanks for reminding me what is important.
Thanks Harv.
I am going to practice not internalizing what my ego views as criticism of me. No one else is responsible for the situation I am currently in, except for three people, Me, Myself, and I. Once those individual(s) learn to smarten up and fly “right” energies will become congruent, with visions and goals. Thanks Harv for the reminder, that practice is only way to perfect. Have a Wonderful Weekend!
Thanks for this reminder Harv. What a joy it is to “be” happy right now, rather than waiting for “whatever” to be happy. Now is all we have so, you’re right, why not enjoy it.
Thanks Harv for your lesson. I am happy whenever I reach my goals. I am responsible for the success or failure of my actions. I agree the motto:
“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”
― Albert Schweitzer
Luis F. A.
Dear Harv, I take this opportunity to thank all creative and challenging contributions to us in their reports, and in the latter I just read and reflect on its content. You have truth and reason in the approach that makes us and challenges us. You are a walking motivation and inspiration to my life and family. We are trying to develop “our Millionaire Mind” and we are learning to enjoy each day, as you say “be happy now” that is what we have in our hands. Thank you and God bless you.
Luis F. A.
I am thinner and healthier when I am happy, and I have lots of friends and family who love being around this happy woman. I enjoy the journey every day. Thank you Harv for helping me to open my eyes to so many things. Quantum Leap was such a powerful force in my life. I wish my 2 Grown Sons would go to at least the MMI. It would greatly benefit them, but the resist. What is a mother to do? I love you Harv!! Thanks again!
Chronic Heaven is all about maintaining the right attitude so that all of life becomes a paradise even when the ego says otherwise. Thanks for spreading the light!
Peace,
Doctress VEC aka Veezy
Love your new website. Lots of energy! I bet you are having Fun moving everything over 😉
All the best with ‘Chronic Heaven’
Thanks for all of your insightful information. Many millioaires are being formed in Ambit Energy .My habit is to consistently be persistent and show others how they too may become millionaires simply by daily habits!!!!
I am going to participate in my life instead of waiting for others approval. One of my methods is to practice trading the stock market; win or loose i will participate.
Good Day Harv
I have this philosophy about “Happiness” I am a Happy whole and complete person by myself. I love to laugh and to make people laugh. I am now married, however before I was married I always would say and still do. You can come in my life and ADD to my HAPPINESS, however I will not allow you in my LIFE to SUBTRACT from it. Life is too short and this is not a practice run. You have to grab all the GUSTO and GOLD RINGS that you can. Even in the bad that has happened in my life ( trust, it has been plenty) I always choose to find a RAY OF LIGHT THAT TWINKLES in the darkness. In MY LIFE I always see the GLASS AS HALF FULL……… For me that means…….BABY IT IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR MORE. Harv, thank you for your sharing your life with us all and blazing a trail. Be Amazingly Encourage and Amazingly Blessed. 🙂
Leith, You can rephrase “Glass as half full” to “Glass is completely full… Half from water and Half from air”.
Thanks Harv for the incite. I always read the articles and practice to make it habit.
Leith – I love the saying. I will use and incorporate it in my life. Thank you.
Greetings from the Manor Harvey. Just wondering if you have ever explored your past as a bully at school (Dufferin Heights) as you move forward, escape your past, and convince yourself and others you are a caring thoughtful individual of high moral character.
I have found that happiness comes with helping others. As an ER nurse, I encountered many chronic alcoholics. I tried to give all positive encouragement. The highlight was when a young man returned to the ER, dressed appropriately and clean. He told me that my encouragement had changed his life.
We never know when we are touching other people lives. I thank God that he intervened with both our lives.
Thank you, Harv. I recommend your book to others that I encounter. It’s a winner. God bless you on your mission.
Thank you Kaye for being there for so many. Some times it just takes one to make it all worth the effort. Without you he would never have made it. You have touched my life today as well knowing that there are so many people out there we do not know helping others less fortunate. Take care ~ Glenn
Harv, these articles seriously makes me happy, it never fails!! 🙂
However, I agree that the journey is to be fully enjoyed and, after years of practice, I’ve found that the best way to go about that is to literally think about how you think and replace negative thoughts with positive ones.
At first it seems to go backwards and then not too much happens for a LONG time, just little improvements here and there but nothing major. Then one day (years later) there has been profound change and it’s like it just snuck up on you quietly, without you hardly even noticing.
At that time and thereafter happiness is with you constantly. Even though there will still be rough and rainy days it’s there working in the background so loud that your attention is drawn to it almost automatically. It just takes a tremendous amount of practise.
But who am I telling, you already knew all this 🙂
Hey Harv,
I’ve got your Millionaire Mind on CD and have recently read Speedwealth. I think it’s a great asset to have and I agree hundred percent with what you’re presenting. Authors I’ve read in the past have been Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone and Norman Vincent Peale. Yours really puts the nuts and bolts in a box with instructions. I operate a small medicall equipment repair business but I’m going to plan out my future using your Speedwealth ideas. I appreciate it a lot.
Thanks
I had a ‘father and son’ chat with my son recently; it was about his choice of subjects in school. I made a suggestion to him and he was like “I don’t want do something I’ll end up not feeling happy about”. I tried in my own little way to define what happiness is to him. I wish I had come across this article earlier… Thank you Harv, you’re a great teacher! I’ll start now to be patient with my kids… Thank you, thank you.
Hello,I will start to manage my finances and work for my financial independency.
Thank´s for your care and patience Harv
I’m getting divorced, and I am really enjoying the process, though I’m thinking for this one I just may enjoy the final outcome more!
Dear Harv,
I realise on hindsight I have had the habit of postponing everything that can make me happ0y because I used to say,”ök, I will keep this and savour it later!”And of course, I never get to it!!!
Thank you for the reminder to make creating happiness an every moment awareness and habit!
TRhank you. Geok
Thanks for this brilliant post. Reminds me of when I started my fitness for life journey, I realised that I had to go through the process of learning how to eat well and exercise to create a balance and also how to have fun doing it. My focus was on getting fit and the extra weight I had just melted away gradually. The journey is a story I enjoy telling now to encourage others that a quick fix is not as gratifying as a journey into a new lifestyle change. Thanks for this
A nice article indeed. We have no control over circumstances or the people we have to interact with sometimes. We set goals to achieve because otherwise there is nothing to do. We get frustrated when we don’t reach our goals sooner. But at the end of it we have to strive for new goals as we cannot be without action.
Like you said Harv, If you practice the thought that “I’ll be happy when [fill in the blank] happens,” then guess what? You’re always delaying your happiness until [fill in the bank] happens. Not because things will never be great, but because you’ve become a master at being unhappy. Unhappiness will be your habit! Through repetition we form habits very quickly whether we like it or not.
Happiness is a choice. My teenage daughter always said to me when she saw me worry or get frustrated, “Choose to be happy.”. That was thought provoking to me. Yes, we can choose to be either unhappy or happy. Being mindful is all it takes to make the right choice.
Wear your “ALSOME” glasses , you will feel much happier 😉
“AWESOME” spelling mistake 🙂 sorry, I’m not native speaker so 😉 regards to all you guys and Harv ofcourse 😉
Kamil, You are not just ALSOME and AWESOME but you are definitely ALall and AWEall. Words in a language are nothing more than the tip of the heart. I’ve been there and can attest to that by experience. Keep going in spite of how you say it as long as you feel whatever you say.
There is good in all of it. Be happy that you met and married this person, for she came into your life for a reason – and you into hers. We don’t always see the lessons of life at the time, but you will. Good luck.
Thanks for another great lesson Harv! It seemed like this was just what I needed to read. I am a driven person who is always striving for my next big goal, sometimes I get so caught up in the acheivment of these goals that I forget to be happy with the here and now. Currently, I am working on purchasing my third house as an investment to flip and give me some more cash to purchase something bigger (multi unit). The home market has been changing and it has been difficult. I have been finding myself discouraged with the progress and it is causing me to become unhappy with my life the way it is now because I am so focused on where I will be once I atain my goal. Being goal oriented is great but there is deffanitly a downside sometimes. I am going to start practicing being happy with the here and now since that truly is the end goal. Thanks Harv!
About Happiness Thank you Jinger Jarrett for sharing this very important thought and practice for all to take in. Yes, you are so right with this article and I would like to add more. Happiness is giving of your self to others and living with purpose in your life. Happiness is living in the present because the past is just that the past and the future never happened. Share your life with a partner its more fun. Love your self , love humanity , all the animals that live on our planet and planet Earth.Chef Barry Gourmet PS My Garden Villa Phuket hospitality retreat is a very Happy Place for us and for our valued guests.
To me, i intend to achieve financial independence in e health & wellness sector by deriving passive income from it. I’ve encountered setback in my journey. Though it can still hurt at times, nevertheless i learn e importance of lettin go & follow & trust my intuition more.
I want to practice to get little by many so i can reach my money goal by helping more people.
I will help with creating and marketing website with a continuity program made of e learning and private coaching. I will make it.
Awesome! I started this year with making a good reachable weekly plan. This is working a bit, but not enough. I will continue it and perfect it, until I will master it 🙂 And during this process….I enjoy it…
i try to do it every week but somehow, i fail to follow through… maybe i am not backing it up with enough reasons or commitment or both…
BTW i like ‘enjoy it’ part…
Thanks T. Harv, Happiness is a decision. If one looks around, he can always find something to be happy about, regardless of their circumstance. As we know about the process of manifestation, we get to choose our results. Always love your information
I am practicing to be me with in a tribe or community. To listen, learn and grow with out loosing myself in the process for I really like me. I am also learning how to talk to others about them and not me. While remaining happy. You know life is like a musical piece. There are different moods in the music yet one can keep it in harmony and on the right beat. Practicing being happy is like keeping the right beat. To me “perfection” is more like being in harmony…if one is in harmony or fit then as one grows one simply has to adjust the harmony as if you are going from one key to another in music or like fitting new clothes as you grow…it is all about choosing to be fit. Thank you, Harv.
Harv, I’m from Brazil. Your book changed my view of life. Now I am studying/working to do what I really love, not what is going up in the market.
I started my professional life in the IT area, but it have no sense for me, I cannot see myself happy working with Information Systems.
What I really love is to make video-games, because this make people entertained and cheerful, this is what I really love to work on.
Thank you! =)

Perfection is a low standard for anything including happiness. What do I mean? Consider this: https://www.veraclaritas.com/perfectionism-is-setting-the-bar-too-low/
I started a business at age 57 – 8 years ago. One of my first decisions was that I would never again have a “down” day. This has worked out just fine. I replace “happiness” with the word “joy”. It seems so much more permanent and foundational. Anyway, “joy” or “happiness” is a decision which comes before results. It is a life choice like things such as honesty; commitment; love and other life patterns which are more important than temporal settings or material possessions. Good flows from the right life choices.
More action, Less info…
this is my motto for this year.
I’ve been guilty of compiling lots of info and cataloging it perfect without putting it to action.
Like memorized all 15 wealth files of ‘millionaire mind’ and still holding on to my old noneffective blueprint.
Success (for me) is never a destination but a journey of challenges, obstacles, and opportunities. Never give up (as Thomas Edison did) is my belief.
For happiness, it is a subjective feelings. Everyone has different ways to define happiness. Whatever you want to define it, the key is that YOU are the only one who can control happiness.
Whatever the situation, stay happy! Nothing lasts forever, look into the future, see a bright horizon, stay happy always!
Success is never a destination but a journey of challenges, obstacles, and opportunities. Never give up (as Thomas Edison did) becomes my internal belief when I face obstructions.
Happiness is a very subjective feeling. Everyone has different ways to define happiness. Whatever I choose, the key is I am the only one who can control happiness. Life’s about controlling both external and internal forces. Don’t let others interfere with my own life’s control. I choose my own destiny, my own rules, my own game, and my own life.
Whatever the situation, stay happy! Nothing lasts forever, look into the future, see a bright horizon, stay happy always!
Hi Harv,
As usual your post has a very positive message. Today I make an irrevocable commitment to practice being happy all the time no matter what happens. I know I can do it . I also want to make an irrevocable commitment to practise listening more and networking more. The more I look at everything I do in the context of your posting , the more I realise my life is just a bunch of habits I have picked up along the way. I jut need to get rid of the bad ones, keep the good ones and develop new ones that serve me well.
Thanks Harv,
Reuben
Appreciating what we have is a way of being happy.
We have only to stop thinking about what we don’t have.
This kind of happines brings quiet to the mind and the heart. We have all that we need, it’s a bad habit we have, convincing ourselves that we allways need more.
I hope my english is good enough to pass the thought.
Harv, I really like your monthly messages. Thank you.
Goals are great but I find if you have a purpose they are easier to achieve. We all have the tools needed to work out your purpose in life.
One way to do it is:
Write at the top of a page: What us my true purpose in life.
Write down whatever pops into your head.
Repeat until the answer (not the process) makes you cry.
This is your purpose.
Your purpose is what makes you get out of bed in the morning and what gives you joy.
Don’t dismiss anything because if it is “gardening” and it fills you with joy then that is it! Even if it is just to make that garden great it can be your purpose. Or you can turn this into a creative avenue making your garden the best in your suburb and then go in the gardening competitions to raise money for charity and maybe sell plants to the local nursery or on the street and writing a book about small gardens.
For a more in depth explanation for absolutely free and without submitting email addresses or any strings attached google: How to discover your life purpose in 20 minutes.
Worth reread over and over again. Timely reminder for me today. thanks
I’m not sure if anyone’s going to read this, or give it much thought even if they do, so maybe I’m just writing this to myself…
I stopped thinking of “happiness” many years ago; it’s interpreted in so many ways by so many persons as to have become meaningless. The same with “perfection”.
The closest meaning I can come up with is: absence of irritation. For me, anyway…
If I have nourishing food, in sufficient quantities, potable water, clothing and shelter in quality and quantity to be at all times comfortable, I’m not irritated and therefore it’s perfection/happiness.
Yes, bad, even terrible, things happen in life, we’re not living in Disneyland, not even close. And no matter how talented, popular, healthy, rich, beautiful we are we’re all going to die some day (that’s the only way in which life is fair), and in death we all look the same to the worms…
Been under general anaesthesia twice for serious surgery, still here, so I figure I’ve come back from the dead twice; don’t ask me why I bothered. Nothing much scares or impresses me anymore; I’ve come to understand that in life not much matters and ultimately most things don’t matter at all…
Guess that’s all I have to say…
