The Stronger The “Why”, The Easier The “How”

Have you ever attended a seminar, a course, or even an online program, got SUPER excited, put a few things you learned into practice, but then after a few weeks your momentum quickly faded away?
Or do you know of people this has happened to?
It happens a lot. I’ve seen other teachers remark on how they believe only a small percentage of folks who participate in self-help kind of teachings actually apply what they’ve learned immediately. For most people, gaining momentum is a process.
This isn’t to say that most people are slow, or lazy, or dim, or anything like that. It’s just human nature that makes sense. If you’ve been thinking and acting in a certain way for years and years, even when you realize that you need to change it doesn’t just happen overnight. You’ve got years of negative momentum to turn around, and sometimes that means a lot of false starts in order to get into consistent positive momentum.
The question is, how do we do that? How do you keep raising the bar so you get into a more successful routine in life?
The simplest answer: make it personal.
Whatever it is you want to achieve in life, it doesn’t matter how many courses you’ve attended or books you’ve read. You’ve got to have a “why” that is undeniably true for you.
Why do you need to be successful?
If it’s to prove to your parents that you’re good enough, write that down.
If it’s to have enough so your kids and family can have a great life, write that down.
If it’s to live the rich lifestyle, go on nice vacations, write that down.
If it’s to have enough money to contribute to other people, write that down.
That’s fantastic.
Be honest, and write it down on a cue card so you can easily read it.
Your reason for becoming successful is also your greatest motivator.
If you don’t have a big enough and good enough reason for becoming rich or successful in whatever you’re doing, you’re never going to do what it takes to do it. I don’t care if it’s money, business or sports.
Can you imagine what a person who’s training for the Olympics has to do on a daily basis? These athletes train somewhere between six and eight hours a day every single day, probably with one or no days off a week.
It’s a massive commitment. They have no life. They can’t go out with friends for a drink, coffee or really anything. Why would they do this to themselves?
It’s because they have a very powerful reason. Their reason is personal.
For anyone who loses a bit of drive, you need to go back to your why. Why is this important to me? Why would I want to create financial freedom?
Then what I want you to do is put that cue card on the wall right in front of you in your office or your home. Don’t lose sight of it. Leave that in front of you every single day. Look at that all the time. If you find that the reason is not important to you anymore, then change it.
If you don’t have a why, I guarantee one thing: you won’t have any money and success, either. Mark my words on this.
I’ve been very fortunate to be very successful myself. It wasn’t always like that, though. I went through about 12 years that I was not doing well. Many nights I had to choose between putting a couple of dollars’ worth of gas in my car or eating dinner that night.
It’s not like that sat well with me, but it didn’t seem like I could do much about it. Nothing I was doing was working. Can anybody relate to this?
What is the difference between what I’m doing now when I am very successful and what I was doing then when I wasn’t successful? The minute I put my big Why in writing and put it right in front of me, things began to change quickly.
The same has happened for hundreds of thousands of my students; the same can happen for you. Take that and please run with it.

For Your Freedom,

The reason why I want to achieve being financially free is simple, I want to have the money and time to go around the world on a motorcycle.
I love motorcycles since I was a very young kid and have always dreamt to attemp something that crazy and big. People like Ted Simon or Ewan McGregror inspired me and make the passion for two wheels grow stronger in me.
I’m on my way to success, and I work connecting people by teaching languages. The most spoken language in the world is Mandarin chinese, which is not as helpful as you may think as it is concentrated in China. Then we have English as the most spread language in the world, and I teach English to Spanish children.
And for you English speakers, did you know you’re missing a 405 million people market just for not speaking Spanish? I can teach you in just three weeks https://lingua-franca.es/learn-spanish/ you will not be an expert but you will get by in daily situations and will start commercing with the huge lating world.
No need to say you will also contributing to this man’s dream to ride to the four corners of this world on a motorcycle.
Thank you Harv!
Great post! great Why! I love foreign languages, speaking English and Spanish which I consider the most important languages in the world to communicate. I am a french speaking native Belgian. Enjoy the cycling!
Hi Harv,
I’m in the middle of one of these down cycles right now and it’s now started affecting my health. I’ve been working with people recently that are getting it done and that has helped too.
Thanks for the reminder!
Jeff
I am putting this is in my very own affirmation which I prepared and it is this:
I know that financial freedom gives me the freedom of power of options and choices and the economic freedom to enjoy a prosperous abundant lifestyle on autopilot, knowing I can do what I desire to do, when I desire to do it, where I desire to do it, and with whom I desire to do it, living my life design on purpose, having fun and enjoying the journey.
I am trying everyday to get that breakthrough in business and finance but it’s become stressful. I can’t give up although I feel like it. There’s no choice. My Why’s are massive and many…
i can relate i am not so clear on a why that is 100% authentic… putting a long list of why’s seems to me not the solution..
To set up my children with a great start in life, to be an example to them, as you have been to me Harv. Simple.
Excellent….I agree. Keep me posted on follow up mails on these lessons.
Thanks Harve….You,, Een, Tony, and so , so many others totally are my mentors….I don’t always buy….but I am always wishing you guys all the best that life has to offer because You Guys ( and some ladies…) Were Totally Put On This Earth For This Reason. Sorry about the Gushing….just thx!
Another awesome article, Harv!
Thank you!
My WHY is to FREE and an Entrepreneur. That is WHY I started http://www.freetrepreneur.com for myself and to help millions of people from all over the world as well. WHY do I want to help these people – Because that is my purpose on this earth to help people to first start to believe in themself and to become successful like I am busy doing with no money down and becoming a millionaire 🙂
Really motivating to focus on becoming success.
I need to learn how to keep that momentum when things around me gets me down. Keeping my WHY!! in front of me will help a lot.
Thanks Harv, these are important words right now. I am going through divorce now and it is throwing me a curve ball. I saw you years ago and by my standards, was successful. This divorce has derailed me. Do you have words of wisdom or do you know anybody going through the same experience? I am dealing with someone that is not amicable or communicative. Thanks a million:)
Dear John, What came up for me in response to you was first, “kindness is the greatest wisdom”. I know as a woman that when I have had to break up with someone, the strength of my own feelings for them was incredible, as my relationships alwasy go deep for me. So my guess is that your now un-partnering partner keeps herself closed because of the strength of her feelings, the skin that remembers , no matter what our reasons, often correct, for closure. Go with a gentle hand, and compassion. You will only do well and make all easier for both of you.
and two. What was your why when you were 10? or sixteen? If you are starting to connect to you just you again, where would your resonance be, when you were not in that or any other couple relationship? My guess is your why now will come clear into your heart if you listen and play. That’s what came up. Wishing you the easiest and kindest possible for both of you in your moving into your new lives.
I am going through a very similar situation. I am focusing on gratitude for all the good that came from the relationship and all the good coming in its aftermath. Daily conditioning of my mind and body is helping, which included periods of silence/meditation. I recommend the book, Miracle Morning. Best wishes.
I needed to hear this, think about and figure out my big “Why?” Thanks for the direction!
Because I deserve ‘IT’ As do all the people I support and assist find a more enjoyable and peaceful state of being, whether Physiacaly, Mentaly, Emotionaly, Emergeticly or Spiritualy. We all deserve to be Happy & Free of suffering. So my Why? I deserve to be successful, so all my clients can become successful to.
Once again Harv, I bless you, I model you and I love you….. Thanks for this amazing lesson. I want financial freedom to have an amazing and comfortable lifestyle, give my beloved ones what they have dreamed about, help a lot of people and change the world in a good way. THANKS!
To have the freedom: To live every day as if it were my birthday by doing my heart’s truest desires!!!
My WHY is to do what I love and to love what I am doing instead of working in a job I have to, just to put food on the table. To be financially free to pursue my dreams of being a successful author, artist, inspirational speaker and healer, to show up in my own life and be fearless in my pursuit of my abundant future. To change my world and be an inspiration to my children to be fearless in their pursuit of their dreams.
Why Do I work hard everyday? Why Do I want to become successful?
– I want to be successful because in life you’re either a somebody or a no body. I want to be a somebody!
-I want to make my parents proud and not let their work go to waste.
– My family is depended on me and I am the future to this family.
– I have to a role model to my brother.
– I want the comfortable life.
– I want the freedom.
– I want to beat my haters by showing my success.
– I want to be successful because I believe I can and I have all the tools I need.
Harv, this is indeed spot on!! I feel that the stronger the contrast we are living the louder and stronger the WHY presents itself. For me personally this year has been a rollercoaster ride that challenges me to step into my greatness. I am super motivated and are now on my way to write my own very first book. I also want to join your team of trainers at one point so I am aiming to become financially free within two years and really put my creative talents and more in my work and in my vocation!! See you at the TOP!!
Thanks a million!!
I’d like to be freee financially because of the freedom of the best otpions in life for familly, wife and children and to do what I love .
I’d like to financially free because of the freedom of the best options in life for familly, wife and children, socially and in society and to do what I love .
You are very much right. In fact,I have used your technic of why for improving relation with my spouse and family members. You are an excellent teacher and many thanks for your brilliant guidance.

Thanks Harv for forcing the WHY out of me. At this point my WHY is pretty basic: I want to be successful so I will have enough to live the life I dream of with my family.
The reason why i want financial freedom is I want to do it for my mom , she deserve the live the best life without worrying about money 🙂 and the more important thing is I want to get rich from what doing what i love with can help a lot of people with a awesome teamwork we are one spirit and the last i want freedom ,i want all balance in one thing. Love , my career , my freedom , my partner , my family , money , friend ,my spiritual and contribute all to all life being in this planet. All is balance , harmony and unity
It is the main engine .
That which makes us get up in the morning and makes our heart beat . Embodies your why I always say to myself and my clients . thanks harv
If I struggle with finding my “why”, it is because my “what” isn’t specifically defined.
T. Harv Eker you are the man of my life! This is some strong, powerful stuff. When I read “make it personal” it was like an electric jolt. I can definitely relate to those 12 years you mentioned… just can’t seem to do anything right when it comes to success. So my big Why is now in front of me, scotched on the wall where I can see it at all times. I want to have enough money so my daughter and I can have a beautiful life, go on nice vacations (we love traveling), invest in a home by the ocean. I want to have enough money to keep studying yoga and develop it (I love teaching it, which I already do in Belgium) and I want to have enough to buy beautiful art and contribute to artistic community. Thank you for everything you are sharing with us.
What I want is make people ignite their light and Be unconditional love through music and art, because It is the way to freedom and World Peace. Happy people Create A Beautiful World, together. &Every single being deserves the best life, because we are one!
Love, Taaty
Why” is the ”drive” we all need. My reason, to be ”free” in ”all” things. We have ONE live.. live it !! Help those to help themselves, be a blessing (like Halv) and this can only be done, once you have MASTERED the WHY !! Thank you. Herman South Africa.
Thank You T. Harv, Your information speaks to my spirit and soul. Blessings
The why ! for me to give my mom a nice life…she is sic and I want to buy a family house in spain for my mom and the family to life there a happy life…I love to give other people and see them happy…having no money at this point in my life is making me sad …I need do change it and go for susses! thank u for the first step Harv!!
succes i mean
I think I have had a hard time admitting to myself that I want this mostly because I want to be rich and never have to worry about money again. I am trying not to feeling ashamed for that being my reason anymore. I also think being a really short, young female, some people don’t take me and my entrepreneurially-ways seriously. I want to prove you can be 4’9” and become badass and rich. I’ve also never been able to even withstand the thought of the 9-5 life, so being self-made is really important to me.
I’ve always known my reason, but sometimes it gets muddled with other things that don’t really matter.
My real reason to be successful is to change to future by learning from the past.
For years I’ve watched my dad struggle to stay just a little above bankruptcy. He’d borrow money and things would be better for a time until he was back there a few months later.
My main goal is to come and help him achieve his dreams because he worked so hard for me to explore mine and my sisters. It’s a Savior complex, but it makes me feel good to know that I’m learning the skills to change not just my situation, but his as well. My hope is to one day partner with him and the rest of my family to create a world renown business that would free him from his strife.
My mission statement,my manifesto, my WHY is:
I will strive daily to help the next generation to find their meaning and purpose in this life by helping them discover their WHY and help them to live their life on purpose.
My Why: The alternative scares me……it scares me a lot.
THERE IS ONLY ONE ELSE REASON FOR ME….my daughter…I want her to understand that she is a strong and doesn t need to chase men…that she can stand up on her own two feet…support herself and y contribute to her Comunity….with honor.
All women begin to lose bone mass after menopause, says Randall, so the stronger the muscle and the stronger the bone mass before menopause, the better. Men should lift weights, too.
