Purpose is the Truth

Notice how the universe supports us in living. We are intended to have the perfect combination of gases so we can breathe, and food that just grew from the ground for our picking well before we became agricultural communities. These are not flukes of nature. To deny this is to deny that the universe is on purpose-and to deny that everything in it, including us, is on purpose.
Purpose is a tricky term. After all, how can anyone be sure that they are living their purpose?
There are two types of purposes. The first is the purpose of life, which consists of three sub-purposes, if you will. There are a number of fill-in-the-blanks to the statement, “The purpose of life is to …” I think, though; there are some core basics to the purpose of life.
One important purpose for us all is to add value—to this planet, for this generation and those that follow. Adding value could easily include procreation, to nurture and love a being in hopes that they will do the same for others.
Another purpose of life is to learn and grow—to evolve our consciousness, which includes spirituality.
A third component is not just simply enjoying the fruits of our labor, nor just strictly enjoyment in terms of material satisfaction and pleasure, but that we also enjoy the journey, which could very well (probably, for most) entail some trial and tribulation. In other words, to appreciate everything.
By no means do I think that those are the only three important purposes in life, though I think they are fairly basic to everyone on the planet.
The second type of purpose, though—our personal purpose, or mission, is obviously going to be unique for each and every one of us. This kind of purpose includes all the other purposes in life that we can think of, but it mostly focuses on that first—adding value to others and to the planet.
In the Hindu tradition this translates to dharma, or duty. Author Carolyn Myss calls it our sacred contract with the divine, a belief that each person has their dharma to fulfill on this earth, to help make the earth whole; a specific calling, a specific piece of the puzzle to help define the bigger picture.
God forbid, but if we lost an eye or a limb, we could go on, yes? But things just wouldn’t be the same either. That’s what it’s like for this world to not be gifted with those who aren’t living their dharma. Others can survive without your piece of the puzzle, but it’s just not the same.
We not only have unique talents but unique ways of expressing those talents. This is the way we become rich spiritually and financially—by matching those unique talents and forms of expression with the needs of your fellow human beings.
Live your life based on your mission. Honor your dharma. Fulfill your sacred contract. Everything else in life is built on the truth of your purpose. It will bring you happiness, fulfillment, meaning, and success.
You are not only important in this world, you are essential! If you weren’t, you wouldn’t be here.
What’s your dharma? How did you come to recognize and know that it’s true for you? Help yourself and/or others come to greater understanding of themselves. Leave me your comments below!
For Your Freedom,

Hello!
How to find out what exactly is our dharma?
Still working on that Harv. I constructed a series of very clever traps throughout my life so far and I have not yet managed to dismantle them all. I occasionally see two types of clue: 1. When I feel like I am wading through treacle and therefore working against my purpose; 2. When I feel unbeatable and open to opportunity.
I’m definitely looking for less of the first and more of the second 🙂
hi.
Hello, how are you? okay? Brazilian’m not even speak English, but would love to attend a paletra Dr. T. Harv Eker. Not what prodimento to do this but would like to be informed. Already agradço. Leisiane Andrade. MG Brazil.

Tb sou brasileiro que acompanha Mr.Harv
Such a great article. Purpose is the core reason for our existence. I’m yet to come to terms as to why am here. I’ve done meditations, tried been all to myself in a quite secluded environment, trying to search my inner being. I have this strong urge in me for expression, I can feel the vibrations of my inner self for something higher but don’t know how to unravel it. I read lots of books, buried myself in findings because I want to be valuable to God and humanity. I need help please.
i feel the same as you it is almost driving me nuts bc no I feel in a way stuck or in limbo and not sure exactly what my dharma is .. hope you find yours soon 🙂 (huuggsss)
Maybe this can assist you. My lifecoach gave me this questionnaire to complete – find a quiet place and God will reveal the answers:
• What do I want to achieve?
• What is my biggest dream?
• What is the world I want to create?
• Why do I do what I do?
• Where do I want to focus my attention?
• What is my destination, the end result in my mind?
Tank you so much!
This lesson came at the right moment. You help me to clear my mind.
I had some bad inner fights going on. I am attending a NLP seminar and the impression I got there was in order to be successful we have to be inhuman, ruthless, contemptuous and manipulative.
I think as a medical doctor I can add some value to this world, I have raised a wonderful young man. He is now at TCC in Seattle.
I think integrity, fairness, respect and love create success, abundance and wealth just as well.
Nice greetings!
Helen, I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with NLP. My coach taught us that if you use the skills with integrity, many can benefit from it. I use NLP everyday in assisting people, but my foundation in God – He uses the skills to guide me!
Harv, This is the essence of life. Without a purpose, we go nowhere. As Anthony Robins say, find a cause that is so great that it will draw you to it. We can all make a difference on this planet. As I say…Dare to Dream! AHO!
food for the mind and spirit
“……………That’s what it’s like for this world to not be gifted with those who aren’t living their dharma. Others can survive without your piece of the puzzle, but it’s just not the same”. With all humility, I know I can say that I am useful to the society. I pay taxes!.
My dharma is Aquarian vision in how to access, share, and create the will for justice concerning COMPASSION. I came to know this from a Catholic background and a spiritual awakening in Universal Law.
And Virginia said “x” 😉 lol
🙂 x
Dharma has a flow to it. If you’re struggling to find your dharma, you’re probably not going to find it. It is so easy and natural, that you may have experienced it today without realizing it: when you recycled a plastic bag out of habit, and you didn’t notice that others took in your good example of simply respecting the earth. When you showed patience and tenderness to an elderly person because you are you and couldn’t do otherwise. There it was! You needn’t seek it, but you might enjoy noticing how you already experience it and more opportunities to do so may expand from there.
It is always helpful to get guidance to stay on purpose.
Awake consciousness.
Heal body, mind and Spirit. Help and inspire people to live full filling lives, finding balance and reconoce ring with their dharma. SAT NAM.
Excellent content! Thank you! For 47 years I have struggled with the value or Dharma or personal calling in the life just because there has been installed (taught to me) false beliefs about universal values. I have been on the dark side of the moon for 47 years, but now I decided to live on the sunny side! Thank you, Harv! That helps a lot what you do!
You are amazing so don’t forget that Sir Harv okay? 😉 x
Encourages us to try a wee bit harder knowing the shoots will bear fruits 😉

I’m grateful for you have keep your promise to god , spirit or universe. Somehow I sucessful I promise you , I will help others people. Thanks so much Harv. Thanks
My dharma is entertaining. I realized that because, that’s when I feel the most alive. Thank you Harv
to increase the lives around you and your own
Hi Harv and all other readers.
You article just came on a great moment. The last days and weeks I feel with less energy and motivation in my daily work. I run a family business together with my wife, and thankgod we’re growing fastly. I joined the company my wife started, because all signs indicated it was the right choice. Nonetheless, I worked before as coach helping others in their personal and profesional development. Something in which I really felt that I could help others using my listening skills and my profound desire to help others in finding their dharma. Every time I do so, I feel energized.
Your article helped me to remember what my special qualities are. I now have to see if I can combine my actual activities, able to use my “dharma-skills” or to make decisions in order to make sure that I can dedicate to my skills on a weekly basis.
Regards to you all!!! Bastiaan
You are a spiritual man yourself Harv; you analyze, spiritualize and conceptualize how humans can live better in all the ways that make us human and that make us spiritual beings. Thank you for your Dharma and your existence.
Seek and do random acts of kindness daily. The opportunitiues are EVERYWHERE! But, they must be kept within your heart to harvest their true value.
How to find my dharma? I feel like doing so many things, but finally i am bogged down thinking what is my that my soul wants to express to contribute to this world?
It is easy to see and appreciate your life’s purpose Harv. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you are truly inspirational and an example to us all. This made it possible for me to grow and understand my life’s purpose too, simply to be someone as worthy as you and to pass your teachings onto others who matter most to me.
Thanks Harv.
I finally took the plunge into my dharma several months ago and have experience the “flow” that you and many experts talk about. It has not been easy and things are moving fast, but the pieces are coming together in a way that feels right. I have been a designer for years, and have always wanted to be an artist. I can officially call myself an artist now.
Also, I have always striven to do something more meaningful in life.
To make a long story short, I am now a Climate Reality Leader, spreading the message of sustainability through my art concept called the Grapevine Wall. Over the past six months I have been able to turn my concept into an interactive group experience that invites the crowd to participate in creating art together, as we discuss climate change and the exciting news in sustainable energy. To see where I am and what I am doing, check out the project at https://tilleyart.com/
Cheers to you all, and remember to follow your flow. Don’t force it, just feel it, and the current will get stronger.
Great, Harv!
Specially, being an artist, I like very much this words:
We not only have unique talents but unique ways of expressing those talents. This is the way we become rich spiritually and financially—by matching those unique talents and forms of expression with the needs of your fellow human beings.
Best,
Genia
Спасибо. Без цели жить не итересно, статья была поучительной.
I can see your personal growth Harv! Hope you have experienced what the truth is:)
Dharma means “Do Good, See Good and Be Good” or we also can summarize it as “Love all, Serve all” These are Sathya Sai Baba’s quotes .
We are here in this world for the others not for ourselves. It takes time and suffering before getting to this understanding but it’s worth the troubles. You become free!
So, our dharma is to serve others. Last year my sister, one friend from India and I we opened a school for poor children in Hyderabad, India. As we are still far from financial freedom, we collect money from our friends to sustain the school. What a wonderful way for a personal growth! We didn’t believe that it will be so difficult to convince someone to give $20 every month to help our school project. Thanks to few of our friends and the Universe that is always helping us in the toughest moments, the school is working and we have 80 wonderful kids,
You can see them on our facebook page From heart to heart https://www.facebook.com/groups/740817005956314/?ref=br_tf

This is our dtharma Harv:)
Dharma seeking – in terms of value we provide – comes down to three things (make a circle for each of these & allow area of the three circles to overlap..this will provide many options/ideas for you …with a plan to journey/try out these plans to see what “sticks” & which comes with the most Divinity: which path brings the most magic and synchronicity along the journey? Or, which path brings RESULTS in the way that is pleasing. doesn’t mean the path will be easy, but which path – once tried – gives you that flow/”buzz” feeling? Which “attracts” opportunities that appear out of nowhere? Which path satisfies pre-designated requireme ts that “you” decide upon before trying “any” of the paths?)
The three circles which inyersect for me are 1. Excitement/”buzz”/flow/meaning: what ideas/objects/people make you so excited you physically “wiggle”? Go to a bookstore & select 3-5 magazines with info or images that give yoh this feeling. 2) What talents come to you naturally & easily (gifts)? List these out..along *what you wish* you could do easily. 3) In addition to “What excies you” & “What comes naturally,” List the aspects of life which tug at your heartstrings as far as Problems in the world “which could easily be fixed if you _____ because I had this problem/understand, or saw this injustice, and by applying my talent/skill of _____ , I solved a problem for one or many people.
So, use your talent/skill/gifts (get further education as needed), and consider a human problem, which yoy cojld sol e by using these gifts. Nnow, overlap the third circle of “what excites you”..This will give you the creative ideas a out “How” you go about solving this problem for people: it could attract you to a beautiful new place to live; it cojld require you to raise your money sta dards to afford some things either needed for the goal or just to enjoy in life; it could mean you decide you will solve this problem for people with your unique skill…while remem ering to pick flowers e ery day because they excite you —> or, maybe gou can use flowers in some way to solve people’s problems.
Develop the three cir les of excitement/fun/desire/passion + pair it with your gifts + problems to solve in the world which could make a big difference for people. Then, decide to serve your heart out, reaching as many people as humanly posdible.
Have fun!! : )
I always ask myself that question and wonder about what it is that I have to get done on this world ? But, I have found that my purpose is to help others to accomplish their dreams and to support them and help them out in any way possible ,but i need to grow as a person and get more knowledgeable every day in all the aspects of a human being spiritual , physical, mentally and financially to help my self and my family as well others people and that is the reason I always looking to learn more and prepare my self better every day
I have been struggling for years to find my purpose and even though desire to find out helps me to get to know myself, sometimes I think that I will never find out why am I here.Is there anything I can do to find out my dharma? Thank you very much in adance!
WOW!! I was the speaker at a program on last Sunday and the title was, ” Life is a Journey: Enjoy the Ride but make a Difference. Reading this blog was just another confirmation of it’s truth. I am constantly evolving. I love when these truths come together. Thanks for sharing your insight and wisdom.
I believe mine is to inspire others to express the truest of their true selves.
I found out about Dharma from Robin Sharma. Now I am trying to figure out which is my Dharma. I think it is very important to know ourselves better and to follow these 3 purposes of life. I really believe these 3 are the real ones. I am after them. I encourage everyone to do the same. I am reading your bestseller now and I am enjoying it a lot. I practise your declarations almost daily. Thanks!
