K.I.S.S. Yourself and Get More Done
Call it a symptom of our culture, society, our brain that gets too big for itself sometimes—call it whatever you want. The truth is people have a tendency to make things way harder on themselves than they have to. They overcomplicate things. Or it’s the complete opposite—we want things fast and easy.
No matter what we intend or what we’re going after in life, it’s going to take some energy, some effort—maybe even lots of it! That’s the Law of Maintenance. Everything that you have in your life takes some form of energy to keep, keep up, or keep at.
For example, know anybody that owns a boat? Ever dreamed of owning one yourself? Boating is awesome, but do most people stop to think about getting the boating license, then the docking fees, then having the right vehicle to tow that thing around, then figuring out where you’re going to keep that sucker when you’re not boating or off-season in places that get really cold …
Not trying to turn anybody off their boating dreams, but I just wanted to illustrate the notion that when you choose a track, you better be looking ahead at the big picture, or all the focus and intention in the world may take you way far from where you really want to be.
Wherever you’re spending your energy, for heaven’s sake keep it simple! This is what K.I.S.S. means. But not just simple—also smart! Keep It Simple and Smart.
How many of you have realized that sometimes your best moves are to not make any more moves? We can have these “brilliant” ideas, but they can take us away from what is actually working right now in life and our current focus. Trying to take on other things means you’ve got to figure out how to get them done, and then you’re off to the Scatter Brain Races.
If you want to be successful, sometimes you’re going to have to work a little harder. Yes or no? That’s just the way it is. But when something is working for you, that’s when you start pressing on the gas. If you are working in areas that you’re not good at, you better recreate what you’re doing in such a way that allows you to work with your strengths and only those strengths.
Off course, lots of people have difficulty finding that something that works. One of the biggest problems most people have—our whole society has—is that we tend to focus on our weaknesses. Every one of us was born with very specific talents and strengths to use. Are you using your talents? Are you using them day to day? What are you doing with your time?
So here’s an exercise to think about. What percentage of your time do you spend on your strengths, whether it’s in business or out in the world with family, friends, activities, etc.?

i went to the music created by k.i.s.s, and found a reason to live
95% of my time is spent in university and study so far.
how can I find more strength for think about something else?
I'm the type of guy who wants to find the easiest, most laziest ways to achieve desirable results. So I search for shortcuts Here's some that I discovered. DEVELOP A SYSTEM. Check it out here: https://dossonsean.47hourreport…
Nice blog post. I agree with all of that. It really astound me how we focus on our weaknesses and how other people focus on OUR weaknesses as well.
I think you get what you focus on, so that is probably why so many people is unhappy and unsuccessful.
Thank you for your beautiful insight!

that is most middle class people think of reward themselves first, and then struggle financially and sometime it takes them years to overcome this financial mistake. sometime I see people have crazy dream of owning luxury things, like buying their dream home and work all their life to pay off the mortgage, they buy liability and think it is asset. this call lack of financial education. if their credit qualify to buy e.g. $400,000 of home price, why do not they learn about creating a business and change their thinking of set a goal to buy the value of $400,000 existing business. It is about how they invest their time thinking, if they use their time think of luxury it go to luxury, it they invest their time reading business books written by already successful and rich people like T. Harv Eker, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, Warren Buffet, Blair Singer, Adam Khoo, Ken Chee, and attend their seminar…I am sure your mind will think Business first as an asset not luxury as an asset like (boat, home, nice car, jewelry..), I would recommend to read the book by T. Harv Eker and listen to his audio book as well. Sophal Siev, Cambodia.
Most entrepreneurs have lots going on all the time. A good entrepreneur figures out how to devote the bulk of their attention to what drives the business and creates wealth. Let other people take care of the small stuff. Systemize and simplify. And your business will be better off!
I am guilty of this …having too many irons in the fire. I constantly work on this in myself so that I can focus on what brings me the most gain. And it changes…once you get a project off the ground and it's working, then you can move on to the next one. But don't try to do five projects at once, they will all suffer!
I love the K.I.S.S. formula. We all need to remember it!

Such great words of wisdom from everyone! Things to abide by for sure! Great entrepreneurial opportunities out there. Have you taken a look at Evolv? It's a new company with this same fine element of mentoring. And with the most incredible System and… Sustainability,

I like your boat example. I would describe that as getting ready for what you want to show up in the real world or expecting it.
I've heard many times to work with your strengths, so I'm honing in on exactly what those strengths are. Thanks for keeping it simple.
I love this! I have definate strengths and these are tied with my joy, as when I teach ballroom dance. The 2 things that are key for me is K.I.S.S. are how it helps me focus and how it reminds me to love myself.
Thanks, Harv!
Harv, I so get this post! I would say not nearly enough until now. Thanks for sharing this great information!
I do agree sometimes we work on with our weakness and not our passion..I often experience it that where i am in was not the passion or the interst i wanted but because its the available then i keep on going it.
I completed my BS Nursing and can relate to your challenge. I don't know if it will work for you, what worked for me was to set the timer for 15 minutes a day of whatever my passion was. Sometimes it was simply to be listened to as I organized my thinking and sometimes it was to dream or write a dream/vision board or …
Thank you Allan. Did u find any way to organize ur time?
If it, PLZ let me know.
Hi Sonia,
Can u explain more? what do u mean by “15mins”/aday ?
what can I do by 15 mins / aday?
thank u very much.
Hi Rose, Simply set the timer for 15 minutes and stick to it. It is amazing how much you can get done in that amount of time. When you feel like you don't have time to do the things you love, let yourself do one thing for 15 minutes-use the timer. This is very helpful when you feel overwhelmed and making this choice made me very happy and hopeful!
I found this to be especially true when I was completing my PhD last year. I started off, as most do, with lots of ideas that I wanted to explore. Sure, I managed to synthesise some of them. But the real task is to take that one central idea and develop it. Hence, a mate of mine used to joke that PhD was an acronym for 'piled high” and deeper”. I see this same challenge while I'm working out what how to set up my business. Lots of ideas all at once, but I only need one – one which I can give my focus to so that it will grow. Thanks.
By the way, I'm really loving your blog. Really accessible stuff. Hopefully you'll come to Melbourne sometime. If you're interested in that let me know.
