Faking Out Your Fears
Our lingering resentments and unresolved conflicts derail what is otherwise a universe that’s waiting to put us on track for success. We just have to open to the awareness that what we say we want and how we unconsciously operate often contradicts one another. If the universe were able to feel, it’d be just as frustrated by our blocks as we are.
Once we open up, we can start resolving past hurts, realizing that the pain may have been understandable for that time, but it’s only going to cause further damage if it’s not attended to immediately. So we mend, sometimes bending to meet another halfway, even if nothing about them has changed. We forgive them not for their sake, but for our own good. We can’t control who they are or how they’ll respond, but we can be effective through our sincerity. If our forgiveness releases them from pain too, bonus!
As important as all of this is though, the root of it all is as natural as our ability to breathe. It’s fear. It’s a part of us. We’ll never get rid of it. No amount of wisdom or experience will ever be enough to prevent it. We just get better at faking it out.
When you really think about it, the mind isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s useful for sure, but only after we’ve attained a certainty degree of emotional maturity. I would go so far as to say also a level of spiritual maturity, but that’s not even the main point. There’s got to be something else within us aware of its control over our mind and emotions. If we let either of those control us, we’re not much better than self-trained apes or temperamental drama queens!
The brain is a tool, but it’s also got … a mind of its own. Its mind is not to make us successful. It’s not concerned about us thriving. Its purpose is for our survival at a base level. Its job is to anticipate what’s coming and preserve our basic needs within that anticipation. In other words, the mind lives in a future reality that doesn’t even frickin’ exist yet! Our mind creates the greatest soap opera script. It makes up incredible stories, usually dramas and disasters that never happened and never will.
The secret to freedom is to realize that you don’t have to believe your mind. You don’t have to believe your story. You don’t have to believe that voice in your head. You don’t have to believe your own thinking. You can simply observe it and say, “Thank you for sharing,” and then take the necessary action you’re scared to take anyway.
One of the biggest mistakes that most people make is waiting for the feeling of fear to subside before they act. It’s not necessary and it’s impossible anyway. Rich and successful people have fear, worries, and doubts. They just don’t let those things stop them.
Don’t resist taking chances. Take them like vitamins. Let go of the brakes. Don’t worry about the bumps and bruises. You can take them. Don’t steer around what scares you. Go over. Go under. Go around or go through. Do something others would be terrified to do. You will feel your chin rise up from your chest and there will be one less thing you can’t do. Just freaking do it!

Great blog. Fear feeds stagnation whereas passion feeds creation. When passion fuels the soul, the embers of fear become barely noticeable ashes in the fire of life.
WOW! LOVE your post!!
This is just what I needed to hear! What a synchronicity!
Thank you
Many blessings to you..
Timely post Harv-
My life right now is full of fears as I break the mold of 30 years and work to better my life and myself as a person.
I am under towering debt which is only because I am enrolling in trainings and finding new people to train with and learn from. I have much confidence in myself and the old conditioned brain is not accustomed to debt nor learning the new bolder ideas.
Today I found myself waiting for the “right time” or the fear to subside. Ridiculous.
Thank you
I just went through the valley, with exactly that lesson to be learned, forgiveness. And, I am now free of fear, not that it doesn't still know at my door. I am just aware and do not allow it anymore. This blog is spot on! Blessing's to you and your family.
very motivated post! agree with that fear is actually make up by our mind, it is not the FACT! never never give in on the little voice in our head.
like this -> “Do something others would be terrified to do. Just freaking do it!”
It's ironic that we have to overcome ourselves (psycho cybernetic mechanism) to change the thermostat and achieve success..

LOVE this post Harv – advance Happy Birthday also!
Thanks, Harv. I need that reminder over and over. I notice how fearful I am, but most of the time I try not to let it hold me back. I've been doing things I'm afraid of much, much more since I first took MMI back in June 2010.
It's funny, I share with people how many fears I have, and they always share back that they do too just like you wrote in this post.
Best wishes to you always,
Awesome post. Thanks Harv
Feel the fear and do it anyway!
Yea! This is good information. I'll remember to USE IT!
Hi T. Harv Eker, great blog post. Recently I read a book from Paul Arden, in his book tells that “Nearly all rich and powerful people are not notably talented, educated, charming or good-looking. As you said, they have fear too, but it is about how we conquer the fear…
this is the topic which hits me the most during the mm intensive in Amsterdam, and really it pops up every day the fear or the story which stops you from doing things to become successful , but now of this awareness i cannot handle it anymore for at least max a day and than i go through it, I call the person I was afraid to call, I ask for something I was scared to ask, and really most of the time it so easy and so successful,
it gives such a kick!
thank you Harv you came to Amsterdam !
I do my homework everyday!,
I also like the despite off day, this helps a lot to go just through it !
So timely, so apt. Thanks the universe for kicking me on the butt to just get out of my mind and just take massive action. Awesome blog post again.
I've always thought of myself as a brave man, and regarding business I called myself conservative, but it never worked really and I now get it. Thank you Harv for showing me I wasn't as brave as I thought, and I can say now I will change, otherwise I would have to admit I'm a coward. The best of all is to keep growing!
Harv,
Last week I was presented with the opportunity to facilitate a 4-hour workshop at the very last minute (and only had about a day to prepare). Pre-Peak training, this would NOT have been enough time for me and the fear of failure and not getting the presentation up to “my standards of perfection” would have cost me passing on the opportunity.
Instead, when I heard the little voice in my head that kept saying, “you'll never have enough time to get it right”; I just said “shut up” (which seems to work better for me than thank you for sharing… grin) and then, I just freakn' did it. The presentation on giving presentations went great and I even talked about being adaptable as part of it.
This article is right on the mark!
To your continued career success!

Yup, sometimes you just have to suck it up and do it! And it's the only way you will move forward.

I did Harv. I did it. I felt the fear and I did it anyway. And now, I am free!
