Get the Ball Rolling
I believe we are spiritual beings living physical lives, and to make the most of this life we have to take care of, nurture, and more importantly listen to the clues that spirit gives us, mostly through gut intuition and feelings we have.
At some point, though, we have to honor the physical side of our lives as well, and that means taking action. To hell if conditions aren’t perfect, or if this circumstance isn’t quite ideal or that person isn’t following through the way they said they would. We’ve got to take all these spiritual principles and put them into action.
That’s exactly where a lot of people get stuck, even those with greater awareness and knowledge. You know you want to work out, need to get into better shape for the sake of generating more energy to work your mission. But what step is often the hardest to take? That first one.
Depending how long you had been in your last cycle, getting the ball rolling can feel like pushing a boulder uphill, metaphorically speaking. You need to build the next muscle and final spiritual muscle that separates the successful from those still waiting at the gate: momentum.
Momentum is that force that makes it easier for someone who’s successful to do what’s right than to do what’s wrong. Momentum is that process of getting that snowball moving. The hardest part about working out is getting to the gym. Once you get there, it’s not that hard to do.
When you’re in motion, that’s when things begin to line up, not before (that goes for you perfectionist!). When in doubt, act. What did everyone else tell you? When in doubt, stop and think about it. No! That’s why I say thinking is dangerous to your wealth!
Most people who I know that got rich didn’t think too much. They saw a piece of property: ‘This looks good. Anything structurally wrong? Environmentally? No? Good, I’ll buy it.’ Twenty years later they’re very rich. They really planned that one out, huh?
Just as an aside, if you’re really “smart,” chances are you’re not going to be really rich. You’re going to get in your way, a real momentum killer. Those who aren’t too “smart” are open to knowing (A) They don’t know everything the need to know to be rich (B) Will learn how to be rich, even if it temporarily hurt’s their pride to know exactly how far off they were to begin with.
A body in motion will remain in motion and a body at rest will remain at rest. What do we want to do? Get into motion! Once you’re there, it gets easier. We already know that. Now we gotta just do it.
What in your life do you just need to get started and adjust as you go? What have you been waiting for? What’s the fear? Is that true or did you just make it up?
You will make it. Trust yourself. Love yourself and know that you make it all up. It’s your freaking story!
Now we want to hear from you! What are some positive momentum-changers that have worked for you?

This article is an eye-opener. Every year I carry out private lessons of English. After summer it's always hard to begin – i.e. to gain the momentum, and I spend 1 hour getting ready for the lesson. Once I gain the momentum, it takes 5 minutes to prepare for the lesson. And so it is in other spheres I am involved in, like tourism. Thanks for the great post!
Absolutely inspirational! I see this in my life day in and day out, previously I would shy away with fear of “what if went wrong” or “what if I failed”. But since attending the MMI at Boston, I have found renewed energy for everything!
The biggest change is that I now ACT despite FEAR! If looking at the 'issue' objectively, there is nothing except 'me' sabotaging it, then I have been taking me out of that 'equation' and then just plunging in and taking action.
It was a baby step of walking 10 blocks mile every friday (now I am up to 3 miles each friday, rain or shine).
Small 2 minute presentation in front of my company staff a few weeks back, has led to few more presentations, and now a shy-and-fear-of-outcome person me, does presentations every single week, with people gravitating and listening to what I say.
Its that first breath, the first step, the fraction of second that I see mind battle over fear, but my heart believes. I smile and take that baby step because I know that I have acted on the issue and I am already successful.
That´s true.
Thanks for your valuable and motivating advice.
It is very stimulating for our personal life in search of professional satisfactions guided to the financial freedom
“Smart” people do not get wealthy because they are too “realistic”. The world is not changed by realistic people or ideas. It is changed by people that do not know it can be changed.

How can I help?
This is new insight for me as to why “smart” people don't get rich because they get in their own way. How does one get around that? Don't think about it too much? Any input?
The MMI two weeks ago got me going. My momentum builds everyday and there are times where all I can do is run! I have so much passion and energy oosing out of me I can't stay still so I bust out for runs. I sleep less and build more and more momentum everyday. Harv's wealth conditioning program is awesome and I know my goals will be met.
Thanks for the post!
“Just as an aside, if you’re really “smart,” chances are you’re not going to be really rich. You’re going to get in your way, a real momentum killer.”
Priceless information. My husband has helped me balance out. I've been in Corporate America so long just running my business as a sidebar to pay off student loans. Well, he focused so much on his goal that he refused defeat. He made very little money and was barely able to feed himself. He moved to another state and within 3 short months, he's opening his own Personal Training studio. I stuck by his side, believing and loving him and recognizing that he was truly the go getter. His tenacity is giving me the strength to one day plan to go into buisness for myself FT too.
Once again Harv, you are coaching directly to me! Thank you. 🙂
That “Perfectionist” that dwells in me is never satisfied so I might as well leap into sloppy success instead of waiting for perfect mediocrity that is plentiful and not satisfying. It is my freaking story. I will make it. I trust myself. I love myself and I get to choose the story of my empowered life.
I am going to be at Life Directions Intensive in April. Will be awesome to build my successes around a powerful millionaire mindset that is uniquely my own.
Much light, Kim
Larry Winget has worked for me. Sometimes tough love is where it is at.
Courage is a momentum-changer. Sometimes it's the courage to swallow our pride, stop, and ask for help when we need it.
I like this phrase:
Most people who I know that got rich didn’t think too much. They saw a piece of property: ‘This looks good. Anything structurally wrong? Environmentally? No? Good, I’ll buy it.’ Twenty years later they’re very rich. They really planned that one out, huh?
…Very much..and its true =)
I remember the quote “Motion beats meditation.” Whenever i'm in doubt on doing something because i feel that it's not ready yet i always think of the sayings “You don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going” and “It is easier to correct a decision than make a right decision” then i go and just do it!
First step may be the hardest but there are times you have to restart or change directions. Still agree the movement keeps you going.
I actually read that taking the first action and then more, will improve motivation itself. Then more motivation will in turn produce more action and the cycle repeats.
Harv thanks for the reminder.
I remember your comment about your fathers advice from Millionaire School a few years back, sometimes you just got to Step on the Gas! So true
Momentum changer #1: Deciding that the anger habit had to go and then, letting it go. Took work, took determination, but it has reached a level that is workable. I no longer get fired up easily; and for that I am grateful
Yummy post. I sent 'my girls' on the Beautiful Women Houston Group your tele-seminar registration link. Hopefully one of them can understand how to make that stuff work. I am clueless with it and it makes me tired.
Correct and continue! You got it.
Prepare to re-ignite your passion for living. You will know your true purpose and mission in life.
For your Freedom,

Thank you, T. HARV, I am going to your event! I can make it!
Did you read my comment on your Facebook wall, regarding the Millionaire Mind Intensive?
Note: This is kind of embarrasing, considering I think HOW CAN I AFFORD IT instead of not, but I didn´t have this trip budgeted, and I confess I am worried… Because I really need to go to the MMI!
Please comment on this… THANK YOU!

I can very well relate to “If you doubt, don't!” However, when I listened and observed to most situations when I doubted and still went for it, I even earned a more positive outcome. Now, whenever I doubt, I tell myself, “It's a temptation for me not to achieve anything.” So, I just go for it.
However, there are certain doubts that I cannot explain which I really give in to. And it's creepy because more often than not, my instinct is right.

Excellent Blog Harv! 5 months ago I wanted to open up a business BUT I wanted to wait for the “right time” and the “right location”. Then I listened to one of your audios and you spoke about this subject.
Now lets just say I closed a lease to my business last week and I will be up and running by April!
I feel the MOMENTUM! THANKS!
Hi, regards. You have been a mentor of mine for many year since I read your book about the millionaire mindset. What I think is a major life changer is the realization that the only real change you can bring about in your life is to change yourself. We need to realize that the environment is under the control of some higher force that has granted us human being one extra gift and that is the gift of self determination. We determine exactly what happens in our life by our actions, wishes, thoughts and desires.
So the biggest momentum changer in your life is to realize this and then start applying it immediately. Take charge of your life and be responsible for the outcome, because whatever that may be it was caused by you. Realize that by applying the gift of self determination you not only determine your financial success but also you level of happiness and health, without which money is worthless. I always draw this example when I am doing my motivational speeches and teachings. I liken most people unto the wheels in a watch. The just move with the movement of other wheels, without thinking or really doing anything constructive at all in life. That is the majority of people in this world. Then we have those people that actually set the time on the watch. If anything you want to be in that position because now you have some measure of self determination because you set your own time. Unfortunately not a lot of us get there. But the most powerful and rewarding position is them all is to be the manufacturer of the watch. This person not only can determine the time on the watch but also the design of the watch, the look of the watch, the color of the watch why he even get to choose who will wear the watch. The question to you today is what position do you want to be in. Thanks for allowing me to share a few words with your audience.

well this is just right for me at this very moment. I believe, actually I know it, I'm a perfectionist and I have been waiting until now that everything was perfect. Curiosly I asked to a friend of mine, atherapist specilized in natural remedy, prano ect and the answer from the spiritual part of me has been “take action” ahaaha.
quite an answer.
“Most people who I know that got rich didn’t think too much.” that is hilarious.
But it really is true I see it all the time.
About the first step, you are right. Today I go to the gym 5x a week and I love it, I made a great progress, hell I even started my own business in fitness world. All because of one decision to go to the gym three years ago. The first step was the hardest, but once you get there and get some results you will get thath momentum and keep progressing even more.
Great post, Harv. It's amazing how often the mind gets in the way of what is truly meant to be for us. Namaste! – Terry Swejkoski
Doing things that feel uncomfortable. The other day I recorded a video about my absolute honest truth and my progress and posted it on my facebook wall. Got tons of great comments, new friends and traffic to my website (and unfortunately some criticism from skeptics)
As a motorcycle racer and international speaker myself, a woman with dreams and projects, I can relate to this. When you want something, just get it done. By taking action and creating a big momentum, you achieve what you want.
My momentum changer is best said by Francis Ford Coppola:
To keep going in a crisis, do a 180 degree turn. Turn the situation halfway around. Don't look for the secure solution. Don't pull back from the passion. Turn it on full force.
As we approach 1/4 of 2011 the best action today is a total review of 2011 progress with respect to goals and/or new year resolutions.
Then use the results as your new waypoint and take ALL the ACTION you need to get to your destination…
I list the things that I can do, starting with the simplest things, and then do them. These are usually tasks that don't require money or even much time, so I can't say “I can't do that because I don't have X,Y, or Z.”
