It’s Not All About The Money: Here’s How To Make Money When You Have A Limited Amount Of It

We want money, which is an important part of our success, but on a spiritual and embodied level, it’s really not about the money if we really want to be successful and happy.
So how can this be?
If you stop and think about it, most people lean toward money as being VERY important, even though they may say to themselves, “It’s not everything.”
We may say we believe that it’s not everything, but for most people, they focus only towards having it.
People’s perceptions, thoughts, habits and actions can’t help but reflect that. Their path then becomes too much about looking for money. And then looking for money now becomes your job, including when you’re thinking about starting a new business.
It’s not part of the conversation, it’s the only part of the conversation. It’s your highest priority to making your decision and what you base your decision on.
Looking for money is not a job. Looking for money is not your business.
No, your business needs to focus on solving problems for other people, creating a profit for yourself, and taking that profit as a reward. That’s business.
I’m gonna give a two-fold lesson on this one.
The first lesson is on how to solve people’s problems.
As many of you know, my first big success was with the fitness business I created and sold, but before that I would just hustle things like watches, perfume, etc.
For example, when I was back in Florida I set up a stall in a flea market. It cost me $7 (but in those days I was so broke the price I paid for that was not eating the night before).
I went to the guy who had the perfumes and begged and pleaded for him to take my nice watch as collateral.
I said, “You keep this watch until I bring you back the money to pay for this inventory, or I give you back the inventory, and it’ll be today. I’m only going out for two hours.” So I got about six or seven samples, around $300 worth, which he spotted me for a $1,000 watch.
I got back to my table and started barking it up. I was saying, “Discounted perfume! Go to Nordstroms, go to Saks and pay full price or you can get it right now. Do you have your Mother’s Day gift yet? You know Mother’s Day is coming up soon!”
As soon as I said the words, “Mother’s Day is coming up,” I saw people stop dead in their tracks, come to my booth, and go, “What is this?”
“I have discounted perfumes.”
“Okay, I’ll take two for my mother and my sister.”
“I don’t have two right now because I’m already sold out, but come back in two hours. Are you going to be around here?”
“Yes, I’ve got a lot of shopping.”
I started to sell product that I didn’t have just from those samples. The number one lesson is that I started in a way that I could start with the money that I had. It wasn’t about the money, it was about working with what resources I had in a way that opened possibilities of making more money with that money.
Number two, I was solving a problem. “I’ve got to get my mom something for Mother’s Day. What a hassle it’s going to be later in a department store when I could solve that problem right now for half price.” I started with seven bucks and ended up with $115 for just a few of hours of work.
Of course, there was nothing passionate or important to me about selling perfume, watches and stuff like that, hence no way I was ever going to find lasting success doing that. But the lesson I took from that experience was that I didn’t let lack of money stop me from gaining access to more money and I didn’t let a lack of money dictate my success and happiness.
That’s how this money thing works, folks. Your happiness and success is not going to be based on money, and neither will money limit you from making more money now or with whatever resources you have to work with at this very moment!

Hi Harv. I agree about two points.
First, I do hear people say that money is not everything. However, their actions and choices revolve around as if money *is* everything! I am guilty for spending the majority of my day ‘chasing money’ but I make sure to spend the evenings or weekends with family or friends.
Second, I love your wisdom about business. “Start in a way that I could start with the money that I have. Work with what resources I have in a way that opens possibilities of making more money.”
Thanks for sharing!
****** Thank harv … hats up …
hats off ..
thanks harv …
Wow… thank you very Sir T. Harv
Thank you Harv & Jesse and the team behind closed doors in which people don’t see that is much as important for making this message to come across. I have finally found my true purpose & calling and While I’m writing my first book, this will fuel my whys to even further to helping others.
I like this article a lot. Please add a share and a like button for your articles, I will like to share them. Thank you.
Loved your statement that business is about solving problems for people, making a profit and keeping the profit as reward! Simple, clear and true.
Great post about taking initiative and making it work for you. People always stress more about not having while they can instead focus on what they do have to offer and be part of the solution!
Thanks for sharing your experience and thanks for reading,

Harv – while I have been following you and enjoying your books/seminars for many years, there is one obstacle that I cannot hurdle over. If the main driver for success in a business is solving a problem, how can an artist be successful. I can’t seem to wrap my head around how my art solves a problem. While my art project has a distinct message and I have an interesting story (being I am legally blind), I still struggle to close this loop and move forward. Your thoughts and ideas are much appreciated and I am ready to put into place all that I can. Thank you for all you do to inspire and keep me focused.
Your art is the mother of many solutions.
It helps people sooth their soul.
Thank you, Paul. And hopefully connect their souls with each other.
Dear Craig,
I don’t know your Art or your art project, but for me art makes this world more beautiful,so you are definitely contributing to this. Maybe your dharma is to inspire people to go beyond the limitations they think they have/the people think they should have (being legally blind). Deep bow Roya
Much love Roya. Thank you. It is sometimes difficult to lead with my “disability” because I do not want to be defined by it. I do feel like it is important, though. I feel when people listen to how I do the artwork as technique it still is very powerful. If you are interested, here is a link to my work – https://grapevinewall.com
Thank you, Craig, for sharing. You and your passion for your art work are already touching people you may not even know. One day, soon, you will see how this passion turns into a lot of money. Just think outside the box more often. Congrats!
When reading the article my thoughts went, YES!
I like the order of the statement about business: solve problems for other people, create profits for myself and take the profit as reward.
Feeling into this, I feel:
that I did something good -> good feeling and happiness
which I get paid more money than I invested -> even better feeling
and linking this to a reward creates a Great Feeling!
the funny thing is, that if I feel into this and look at my family and friends, the sequence is:
that I did something good -> good feeling and happiness
don’t want to get paid for BUT it hope that they have learned their lesson
if they demonstrate that, I am delighted and happy.
As I am from Germany, I had to dig into the REWARD thing. I felt a bit conditioned on “go for the next reward and the next and the next”.
But when I understood that it is the others person way of expressing their gratitude in a materialistic way (not only on a feeling level), I love the term REWARD, (giving back) as it is linked to a very positive feeling that the other person can express their gratitude on a materialistic way as well.
Wonderful article! Thank you!
Like Harv I started with a single booth in a flea market in Toronto. After 10 years we have 7 booths at different entrances with 10 staff working for us. It’s an extremely prolific business. When I started I had to borrow Products from a friend to sell at my booth. The showcase was lend by the management office. The hooks for the business were given by the neighbour. The only thing which I got from my house was my attitude. You make the best of what you have. If you come to my flea mkt now. There is 8 out of 10 chances you will buy from one our booths. Our gross business sales annually is in 7 digits. Harvs teaching has helped me to validate lots of decisions we have made in business as well as in life. Some of the big jumps in business have come after attending the warrior and wizard camps.

Grreat article.
Thanks for continuing to share your wisdom Harv! It’s definitely time for refreshing… for me.
Much appreciation,
Dawn
Thank you Harv again! In my life i already get businesses without money. First time i just get advance payment from first client, when i open webcompany. When i take money for the website, than i spend them to register my company and buy programs to build the client’s site.
P.s. im from Kazahstan, so sorry for my English.
Thank you, Harv!
My experience about solving peoples problems means understanding what people need at each particular time.Otherwise you may have idle money failing to know where to invest.Indeed it not all about money but mindset and determination.I am not there yet to share a full story of success but your article encourages alot.
Thank you for your letter! I need to think…Excuse me for my English.
thanks Mr.Harv for very nice words you had written.
it’s nice concept realy when use it will make business shine.
This is one of important secrets makes people earn thuasands of dollar per week in D.S.
I really enjoyed that and learn something at the same time great nuggets
I truly believe that. The way you exemplified it is great. Thank you.
..shipped, just arriving to a kind of holiday island. After having pre-paid my room and vehicle here I still have 25€ left to spent everyday in food, gas, Internet cafe pocket money (..even more than even T. Harv had in the flea market !) but I tell you, this island is super expensive. When I get back to my home town I’ll have 18€ per day till I recieve my next payroll at the end of August.
I have a GUITAR and magazines + samples to recommend my multilevel organic products on the island but the later won’t give me money at least till August, time where I get my commissions.
…mmm, I guess I will also have to solve some problems with my guitar and my art for extra money my friends if I want to survive ahaha !
..anyway after hearing T. Harv flea market story I realized at this moment I’M RICH !!!! …I really though I was jumping to the void travelling here with such resources to find new horizons !!
Harv, Thanks again for the reminder. Sometimes someone has to remind you of what you already know. Thanks for your consistency and for your giving. I have followed you, read your books and attended your seminars in San Francisco and the Bay area. You are still relevant and a lot of the newbies are saying the same thing you said years ago and you are looking younger than you did years ago! You got it and you’re doing it right! Continued blessings to you and yours!
Harv
You make learning simple, practical and result focused. God bless you.
Muchas gracias por compartir sus conocimientos Sr Eker ya que estos contribuyen a nuestro crecimiento
Me preguntaba cuando viene a Ecuador o Colombia para poder asistir a sus seminarios
Can’t help but LOVe Harv’s take on money & his experiences truly rock & are still effective yet to this day, I’ve seen it happen recently to a guy in the internet marketing space.
I also like Robert kiyosaki’s take on money. Some people get consumed with having enough & then once they get enough fear takes holt again and they become obsessed about not losing it.
I would say true riches if as to prioritize them… spiritual, mental, physical health, relationships, prosperity, money is definitely on the list…we need certain amount of money to take care of our needs & can also help others w/their needs. I mean if you get rich and then wanna give it all away b4 you die is not a bad way to go…many have done it.
Thank you for the insights and direction on business in business.
@ Craig
I saw a lady wearing a T-Shirt with the following words: “Without ART the eARTh would be EH
You are absolutely right Harv.
Love to read your book and your blog.
It is true that most people put money in the first place and that conditioned them to only think about how to profit from what they do, instead of creatively thinking about the problems and how to solve them.
Thanks for this great sharing. 🙂
when I started the business, I put in the capital. I include ordinary shares in the company.
I do not need to buy equipment or raw materials
I met a loan financing company and I do not need a loan.
I add value by helping other companies to streamline, automate and improve the business model.
recently I propose to the client to optimize their HR functional model.
business is about value adding. it is the same as creativity and innovation

Truly amazing material. Not only changing my financial status, but my mind set towards money too. I’d advise anyone to look into this.
