The Answer Lies in How
From now on, whenever you have a goal, the only question you ask is, “How?” If you have a problem, the question is, “How do you solve it? How do you overcome it?”
All successful people ask how. They’re proactive. They’re action oriented, and the word ‘how’ is like pushing the button on a detonator. The answer always triggers you into explosive action. You can’t ask ‘How do I solve this,’ ‘How do I achieve it,’ ‘How do I get there,’ or ‘How do I overcome it’ without being triggered into taking an action of some kind.
If top people think about what they want and how to get it, what is it that unhappy, unsuccessful people think about most of the time? They think about what they don’t want and/or who’s to blame. That’s the basic summary of all abnormal psychology. They think about what they don’t want, which makes them unhappy, and they think about who is to blame, which makes them angry.
Unsuccessful, unhappy people are always angry at someone who they blame for their problems. The goal is to mature to the point where you realize that you are in command of your own life. You’re in charge. You make things happen. You are not a victim. That was then, this is now.
Never allow your past to determine your future. Think about what you want and how to get it.
When you turn toward the sunshine; when you think about what you want and how to get it, the shadow of negativity falls behind you. You realize you can’t change any of that stuff from the past anyway, so why fret over it anymore, yes? You have control over now. Now you can ask how. ‘Instead of what thinking about what I don’t want, what do I want, and how do I get there?’
One of the greatest wastes of life is to be upset about something that happened in the past that you can’t change. One of the great uses of life is to think about what you want in the future and how you’re going to get it. You keep your mind so focused on the future that all those other things just peel away like dead skin.
Don’t allow unhappy experiences in the past to keep re-emerging in your daily life. This is what holds us back. This is what stops people from succeeding.
Maybe some things happened to you that were beyond your control. Maybe those events had consequences that detoured or even derailed some goals in your life up until this point. Maybe you’re still living with those consequences. You are responsible for your life now. You are responsible for the things that you want and how to get them.
Nobody is smarter than you. Nobody is better than you. If they are doing better, they have just figured out how. They’ve gotten the recipe before you did, but the recipes are available to everyone.
What was the recipe for your success? How were you able to use basic, simple psychology to turn your situation around from lethargy to activity? What’s your story? We want to hear from you!

If I've got my “Why” I'll automatically have my “How”.
When I know what my goal is, I automatically look for ways to get there.
Mmmm, I love the tag 'Service'. You speak as if turning your back on your past is simple. Let's look at your behavior as it relates to your past… Give me five minutes of YOUR time. I pray to God that I don't tell you what is wrong with you. I pray I take that time to see the best in you. The best way to get past the past is by surrounding yourself with REALLY GREAT people, who would never allow you to see yourself as what you think you are. Those are freaking precious people tho. People who use their 'precious' time investing in others whether they get something out of it or not. I love the HOW answer. Thank you. Thanks and God bless from crazy town.
Spot on Harv! Asking HOW and receiving great direction, thanks for the reminder
I like the “How” question, it take my mind work to find out the answer.
This is a great timing for me. I am challenged and I find myself slipping into thoughts of “what if's.” Becoming aware of these quickly and cancelling this question-replacing it with “How do I's” is key to my overcoming this challenge.
I appreciate these thoughts.
How is not a problem when you have a strong WHY! From all time best selling book – Think and Grow Rich, the very first chapter is a desire.
A successful people must start with strong desires. When they are able to get strong desires, they don't have problem to figure how.
Thanks Alot Eker
I agree with you! “How” is the word which can spur us into action. One of the reason people get stuck in mediocrity is because they keep placing blame, as you mentioned, but they can't seem to forgive, themselves or others for the failures of the past. When the focused is place in the “unforgiven zone” it is difficult to move forward toward success.

This is very timely indeed. I keep asking myself, HOW do I split my earnings between the 6 jars when there is nothing left over? I have looked at the percentages, but there is nothing left over to save for long term savings etc.
Please can anyone give me some ideas? I enjoyed the Millionaire Mind Intensive and I want to put it into practice on all levels.
Many thanks H : >
thinking about the how… if the goal is to paint
my house…and my how is to work, save and buy paint…will I see other
opportunities for free paint?
Hmm…It's always so nice to read you, Harv. One thing that I realized as I was reading your blog, is that many of the people around me give up before they get to the How, because they simply loose faith in the possibility that good things can happen, and they can actually orchestrate them! Sometimes they write me off as being too positive, but…you know? I think we have to open our minds for Good to come in.
Nomad,It's not about the amount, if all you have is a dollar left over manage that dollar and so forth. Just like my video story on Friday. It’s creating the HABIT of managing your money. Take a dollar and divide it up based on the %’s suggested. if 99.9% goes into your Necessity jar because you have more expenses than money coming in, then that’s “what is”. But you have to create the habit now. Take $1 or $2 or $10 (whatever you can do) each week and divide that up. Then once you have done that each week for a month (so 4 times), do it every day! Facebook me again in 3 months and tell me how it’s going.
Great!
You got it!
The number one reason most people don’t get what they want is that they don’t know what they want. This Blog posting is just showing how going at a problem asking “how” to fix it, instead of “why” did this happen? It's all about acting not reacting. Also it sounds like you need to attend Mission to Millions: Life Directions Intensive.

After the MMI in Amsterdam I've made a personal list with small and big wishes for my life. It actually took me several days to write things down. At the beginning I couldn't think of any wish I had! Rather confronting. When you have no wishes, there's no way they will come true. It's a bit like gardening; when you put no seeds into the ground, no plants or trees will grow. I find the 'how' question very inspiring because it assumes it IS possible, even though you just haven't found the answer yet. Thank you for inspiring me to go on and build my own life.
I just got your recent blog post and thought I will check to see if anyone replied. YOU did! : > Thank you so very much Harv and I feel so Duh! as of course now it makes sense that you are encouraging us to develop the habit. Ok I shall start doing it forthwith and will Facebook you in 3 months and let you know how I went. I feel I can now ask my little girl to do it as well (for actions speak louder than words), as she can too with her McDonalds pay. She helps with the bills too but I shall encourage her into the habit of managing her finances too.
Many thanks again, H : >
I have been exasperated of late with 'why' questions and while I know that side of the coin is practically worthless [understanding is the booby prize] I did not have a 'how' to proceed to generate the intended outcome. This is perfect! Thank you.
Thank you! Teacher Harv. I am reading your book, and I have decided to establish a company, my company after a year of operation, is now facing some problems, your post has strengthened my belief a lot. I have a question for you, How to find a way to get what I want.Thank a lot!
I loved the millionaire mind course I just went to in London at the Novotel, hammermith…I definietely recommend it… It was brilliant!! I also realise that it is all great and useful to know these things, but how do you exactly do it and own your courage and self trust, and be surprised at what comes next!! Which puts the unhelpful thoughts aside for real action designed for you specifically through your natural resources, hidden skills, and genuine guide never accessed because one's mind is usually getting in one's way…. what will actually work practically that is not difficult to do and get into the habit of doing daily despite life's pulls & pushes!! I read this book call “be surprised own your courage and self trust ” by Dr Paul Fashade… http://www.fashade.com
It is extremely practical and I never say no to adding to my gold bag of what will genuinely help me without all the fuzz… I also recommend this for genuine practical things to outsmart our slick minds as T har v Erker puts it… and damn! it is definitely slick if one is not observing and learning to catch it and turn it around quickly… otherwise we end up being a stranger to ourselves in the end totally getting even lost!!
I wish you all well… staying light in mind and heart always (took it from the book recommended above!)… plus this brilliant one that reminds me daily not to go into my past!! “The world is truly heaven and then we create our own hell, through fear!” by paul fashade
