How To Use Nature To Get The Answers You’re Looking For

Have you ever noticed that when you’re in nature, near trees, mountains, water or at the ocean, you feel different?
We love nature and feel good in nature because we are nature. But most people live in a very concrete world. They go from their house in the city, town or community that doesn’t necessarily have a lot of nature around, and they get into their car onto some freeway with a bunch of busyness.
They get into an office building made of steel and concrete that often doesn’t have a single piece of wood in it. Then they come home. It’s no wonder that that can take a toll on your psyche, on your sense of peace.
In this environment, it is very hard to allow your higher self to emerge. We’re not concrete and steel. I’m not negating them, but what I am suggesting is that if you are a part of nature, you need to be in nature in order to be yourself.
For a lot of us, it’s going to have to be an absolute commitment, a scheduled appointment to get into a place of nature that’s close or far, wherever that is for you, even if it’s just a park.
Go ahead and hug a tree. Hug a big rock. Take your shoes off and let your toes touch the grass.
For me, being in nature is not just about some vague idea of connectedness to what we think of as the “natural,” but it’s more so getting the answers that I need in my life. Here’s the technique I use.
I try to find big, old, ancient things of nature like trees or boulders, as big as I can find. I put my hands on it and ask, “May I ask you a question?” I’ve never gotten a no. It’s just my way of paying respect.
Then I close my eyes, and I ask whatever question is going on in my life. I wait for an answer. The very first answer that comes into me is the answer that is coming from my higher self.
I can’t tell you how many times I have gotten clarification in my life from using this technique. How does it work? I don’t know!
I just know I never get that same type of clarity if I don’t touch a natural element itself. Just by doing that, I seem to tap into a bigger part of me, the part of me that is all wisdom, all wise, all intelligent; the part of me that is my true nature.
By touching and being part of nature and getting this information, I seem to get the answer that is most beneficial for me every single time.
I’m going to ask you right now if you’re willing to make a commitment that I believe will help you this week. Are you willing to spend at least 15 or 20 minutes in nature wherever you are in the world? If you can do more, then do more, but spend at least 15 or 20 minutes just sitting in nature, looking at it and breathing it in.
But you also have a second part to your commitment. You’re going to find a tree, a rock or something else of nature, like a stick or a branch. You’re going to hold it, touch it, admire it and appreciate it. You’re going to let it know that you admire and appreciate its wisdom, and you’re going to ask it permission to ask a question. You wait for a response.
How do you know if the answer is coming from your genuine, higher self? If you can’t hear the response to, “Yes, you can ask me a question,” then you’re not quiet enough.
If you’re not quiet inside, then take a walk because you’re not going to get the answer that you need. You’re going to have an ego-conditioned response; an old answer that you’ve been grappling with 100 times already.
If it’s the right answer, it will be crisp, clean, simple and obvious. You’re going to know because it’s just going to feel like, “Of course, that’s it!”
Then you write it down as soon as you can, and you just act on it as your normal course of action.
Then tell us how it goes. Share your thoughts, comments or experiences with the community!

For Your Freedom,

Being in contact with nature brings you into contact with the One who created it, that is why it works.
Yes, Jesus is the answer and God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is the maker of all. In Him we have life and light and He is the answer.
I fully agree. and His timing is always on the button. He has brought Harv to me after searching for many years for answers, direction and understanding of my business and life.
Sheer balance of all and being one with the Lord. Thank you.
Hi Bonnie, I like what you said. In the beginning..
And all things were made through HIM. That’s us too?.
I’m so grateful for this new journey I’m on.
I appreciate your kindness. Thanks for all the gifts you share Jai
Wow, that’s great. I often walk in Centennial Park, Sydney.
Thank you, Harv, for this beautiful message. So true!
It goes with the saying: “The best things in life are free”.
I am so glad you’re combining the value of nature with your lessons on making money and becoming rich. The one shouldn’t go without the other.
Sir,
Thank you for your consideration and time . I look forward to
Your next lesson .
Thanks,
Shyam
We are nature and we get to disconnect from our real beings in our artificial world. Thanks a lot Harv, I spend quite a lot of time up in the mountains or at the beach -I’m very lucky living where I live- but it is always worth a reminder.
Thank you for this wonderful piece. Being connected to nature has been my ‘safe haven’ since I was a child, all the way through a very intense psychiatry practice, and now as I am retiring from that to reinvent myself. Thanks for your suggestion for a different interactive approach to add to the ‘toolchest’. Namaste!
Te bendigo a ti, y a tu fortuna.
Fabian
I have done exactly as you suggest! The first time was when I was fifteen and I was confused about the origin of life. Was the belief that I had from childhood about God true or was everything just evolution? I went to my favorite place in the woods and asked a tree that I had named Summit about the origins of life. A few seconds later I had my answer. The complexity of the seemed simplicity of nature gave me the answer I needed. What was the answer? You’ll have to find your own Summit and ask.
I’ve never tried this before. I’ll give it a shot!
Thanks Harv!

Because we are part of nature. I appreciate the unique way you express things T. Harv Eker.
Hi , Harv
Thank you so much for this lesson , the truth is that I knew but incomplete , that part of the question not know . I was put into practice and will write down the answer.
Have a wonderful day in the future!
Nicoleta
It does work, it’s not something I do daily but as & when and I always feel so much clearer and calmer inside. I was however taught to say thank you to the tree, rock, stone by leaving one of your head hairs… We always give back..
Dear Harv, during an interview about a year ago, you shared how you learned to embrace your spiritual and business perspectives and how the two can work together. Thank you for demonstrating how both bless the worker and the world.
I laughed at “hug a big rock” because I do this so often! Hugging trees is great, but rocks are older, and being geology-minded, I tend to resonate with rocks more. I definitely need to get back to Nature. I’ve been indoors too much for too long! Thank you, Harv! You are awesome!
Harv,
I am a Celtic Druid and we have been teaching people to find peace and enlightenment through nature for thousands of years. The colleges now teach something similar called “Eco-Psychology”.
It took us over a year living in our current location to discover we are only a 35 minute drive from the coast! Now we make regular pilgrimages and are fed by the ocean’s magnifence.
Thanks Harv, Im seeking alot if clarity in my personal and professional life and I need to be in touch with my higherself as much as possible. Im going to do this today, as I know that nature will give me the andwers that I seek. As always, thanks a million! Or two!!

Dear Harv Eker,
You are awesome…..feeling naturally inclined to comment on this one…..lovely isn’t it 🙂
Living large doesn’t have anything to do with money…it is simply being blessed with the intrinsic knowledge that we are all connected and all of us ( trees and rocks included) have something to being to the table. Simplicity is genius- strive for it! -s
Thank you Harv for this beautiful message. It bring smile to me listening to this message. As I do spend lots of time with nature and learning to ask question, listening and trusting the answer. Its a slow process of tuning in for me, and I love every part of it. Still lots more to explore and connect…
Thank you very much for this wonderful shared idea. I love nature and I’m very happy to learn new useful items.
I really like this idea Harv. I have one request. Will you please start crediting the photographers you have on your blog. It’s respectful and I really like the photo and don’t know who made it.
Thanks
I have listened to your webinar, “The Ultimate Life Makeover” and loved your presentation, your inspiration, your encouraging spirit. I was very moved by you.
So when I received this article, I was thrilled knowing it was from you and the content is so important, so very meaningful. Thank you so very much.
I have always loved days at the ocean and always felt so in my element and slept so well while on vacations at the ocean. Now I live in beautiful Colorado and find the mountains and the lakes and rivers give me that same wonderful feeling and rest and peace that the ocean does. Thank you for explaining WHY. You are a treasure of very valuable information. How very kind of you to offer some of your information free for those who live on a small or fixed income. I appreciate you so very much and I cannot wait to tell others who may not yet be familiar with your wonderful work.
This is fantastic! An eye opener. To know that we are so close to Nature and Nature’s calling and yet so far away from it! There is an old adage:
” Nearer to the Church, away from God!”. It aptly apples here. Thanks Harv, appreciate it.
Thank you, so true – we human are nature and same rules apply to us as to everything around us.
Hola! Soy argentino y tengo que traducir todo lo que publicas pero… me encantó lo de hoy!! Muy bueno. Bendiciones!!!
I thank you, Harv. This is a beautiful and powerful and very very important sharing.
For most of my life, and more so the longer I’m on this beautiful Earth,
Nature has been my sanctuary, my “reset”, my Teacher, my inspiration, my Healer,
my reminder of what is real, what is important, what serves life in the highest and best ways, and it is for me an instantaneous way to disengage from the insanity of the day or moment or circumstance, and get back to Center, to Source.
As soon as I take my eyes off “worldly” (human-created) things and place them on something created by the universal source of everything, the sky, on a stand of trees, I immediately feel my entire physical and emotional and mental self disengaging from what feels stressful, toxic, insane, unhealthy, and otherwise not-serving-life, and engaging with softness, gracefulness, a “flowing” sense of life and the world, slowness, stressless, etc.
I really truly appreciate your inviting us, reminding us, to do what the indigenous cultures have always encouraged us to do: remember that through Nature, our Divine source gives us everything that we need for the quality of life that we were intended to have.
There actually is a science of ecopsychology, ecotherapy, etc. and many have offered us this consideration in the last few decades; most notably, my personal favorites:
1. Ralph Waldo Emerson “Nature is my cathedral”
2. Henry David Thoreau “I went to the woods to live deliberately…”
3. David Suzuki (founder of THe Suzuki Foundation) produced a 3-part PBS series (and DVD) in 2003 called “The Sacred Balance” which helps us to see why we need the natural world and how it serves us in powerful and beautiful ways.
Your “inner world principles” are such a Gift, Harv, as certainly *you* are too!
I thank you again.
I agree. Being in nature has ALWAYS calmed me down. Can’t wait to start going to the beach again:-)
Once rich, to regularly go snow-skiing.
Are you Hindu? There is no “Higher Self”. That concept originated with the serpent in the garden. It is just another means of denying man’s need for God. If rocks, sticks and the things of nature talk to you, the will say the same thing that the serpent would say. Give up on worship of creation. Give in to worship of the Creator.
I will be unsubscribing from your lists. Do not want to be led into your cult.
He means higher self as in communion with our creator, not apart. We are from him and find completeness in him, there is no separation. Our higher self is our spiritual being, our soul and our origin. And all things were created by him and contain him, even rocks, sticks and nature.
Thank you, Harv, for this wonderful advice. I have studied Oriental Philosophy, Oder of the Universe etc. We are truly a part of nature. It’s the uplifting energy of trees that build us up. Speaking to trees and asking their permission and advice is a great idea. Thank you. again!
You are amazing! Thank you for sharing beautiful and valuable insights! God bless you!
Very true, nature is the manifestation of the Higher Consciousness..The intelligence and the wisdom of nature is pure. The mountains the trees and the rivers can speak to us if we silence ourselves to hear them.
Well put…even I “get it”…If I may add…EVERYTHING has POWER…And to get access to “it’s” wisdom and see increase in the ways we choose…we only are required to PRAISE “it’s” beauty, truth, wisdom…..As Mr Eker teaches…what we .focus on, increases…What we criticize is reinforced and it increases…What we praise is reinforced and it increases…I think of the phrase…”No Brainer” as to the positive choice…Thank You Mr. Eker
Wow, I used this method before without knowing it. It works totally awesome, like total genious is answering your thoughts or inner emotional problems. It is more beneficial, than talkig with human experts and with knowing the future!
I just read this post picking my daughter up from the UP in Michigan where she goes to college. After a 6+ hour drive , I could not wait to go for a hike and connect. God has created such a wonderful planet to embrace and love.
We went to two different places, Black Rock which looks like elephant skin on rocks complete with caverns that speak to you as the waves crash. Then on to dead river falls of which I wAs sure my daughter was trying to sacrifice me to. Lol. I did slide down a hill trying to get down. It was great and I’m so thankful we went.
I will continue to connect and even set specific time as I get caught up in always giving til exhaustion and not taking the time I need for quiet and listening . I have started meditating too. I’m committed to this and know the changes start with reconditioning my thoughts . Blessings to Harv and everyone supporting our journies. ?
It’s true that the nature is part of us and we are part of the nature. A friend told me about the amazing healing powers the oceans posses. David Wolf and a few others have down lots of research on it,walking bear footed on the sand and sea water regularly will have awesome effects on conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, even heart attack and lots of other things.because he doesn’t have access to the ocean,he started walking bear foot around a football field, after a while when he saw his specialist,he couldn’t believe the improvement in his condition and told him to keep doing what he has been doing as long as he can.get into it and let’s know the results.love and best wishes to all of you xo
A wonderful reminder. I love hugging trees. I’ve never asked them before to help me find an answer, but I’m looking forward to giving this a try.
Thanks, Harv!
harv you are good and you are really a life transformer thanks a lot
Very interesting, Harv. I’ve never tried hugging a tree, but I totally agree that we need to spend quiet time in nature to calm ourselves inside & remind ourselves of most important things in life. My most peaceful times have been sitting on a hillside overlooking a peaceful valley or walking along ocean beach early in the morning or late in the day when the world is very quiet. God created these things for our benefit. Thanks for reminding me to find such a place again.
thanks for the message – T. Harv.
Early mornings – from my place in Singapore, it is rather quiet and I can listen to the birds.
Weekend run brings me to the park and trees nearby. I see people, swings, basket ball court.
Being with nature calm my senses – sometimes it helps me to think about things.
I listen to music CDs of water flow.
it makes me feel more connected too.
Здравствуйте Харв!!! Прекрасная статья… Именно так надо жить. Спасибо за книгу “Думай как миллионер” =это учебник бесценный!
