The 2 Types Of Thinking That Can Lead You To Either Success Or Failure

One of the biggest challenges for people is not making up their minds on what they’re going to do. About what? Basically everything…pursuing their passion, what they really want out of a relationship, starting a business, and the list goes on.
Some people will make a decision and then a month later they haven’t really gotten anything started. They’ll make excuses that feel completely legit at the time like, ‘I need to save up more capital first’ or ‘I need to make more connections’ blah blah blah. Talk about commitment issues!
Just kiddin’, it’s not that at all (read last week’s blog to learn more about why you may breaking your commitments). Not making up our minds on what we want to do is nothing but fear. It’s the voice of doubt out of nowhere.
You were so excited. You had plans. You journaled it. You were sure about it. You said, “This feels right. The universe finally gave me the answer. This is what I’m supposed to do.” An hour later you say, “I don’t know.”
This is the game we play with ourselves. Even if God sent an angel with a sign that says “I am an angel from God, listen to me,” there’s gonna come another voice that asks, “Was that the real angel? What if that was a fake angel? I think it looked like a fake angel. I’m not really ready for this!” You have the clearest intuition; the clearest message and you will still doubt it.
The angel isn’t necessarily correct and the doubt isn’t correct. If you pay attention to the voice of doubt, is that empowering or not empowering? Is that expansive thinking or fear based thinking?
You’re going to need to choose now what you want to believe. Which one do you want to put your attention on? The “intuition” of your expanded self–the voice of expansion and growth–or the voice of your inner-brake?
You’re going to now put your attention on what you believe is going to work better for you. It’s not because it’s true, it’s just more empowering. It’s more actionable. It’s more expansion for you.
Better things can happen or have a chance of happening if you put your foot on the accelerator and go for it.
What moves us into action? “I made up my mind. I’m making a decision.” By the way, the word decision comes from the word decidra, the Latin word which means “to kill off.”
What you do when you make a decision is you kill off the other alternatives, and what’s wrong with that?
You’re just going to go! You’re going to start the car, you’re going to put your foot on the accelerator, and you’re always going to choose to move the car along.
You don’t have to move quickly. Get onto a little pathway out your driveway first, then onto a small street, then on a bigger street, then onto a highway and then onto a super highway. That takes some time, but you start.
You start by going with what will empower you.
Now, what if I said to you, “Enough preparation. We start tomorrow.”
Is your heart pounding? Good! That means we’re onto something here. But now you might be asking, “What do you mean start tomorrow? I’m not ready.”
The made up mind, though, kicks right back, “Well we’re going to do this!”
What information did you say you had? You know how to help people? You know something most people don’t and need to know?
So tomorrow morning you start with one person. If you see they have that need, start helping them. Do you charge them? Heck no, you don’t charge them, not at least on Day 1. You don’t charge anybody until you feel comfortable and know for sure you have good value. Then you can say, “In fact, I’d like to follow up with you because I actually do this. I’m a coach, but I’m not charging you right now. Here’s my email if you’ll let me know how it turned out.” Encourage them to generate referrals for a discount.
Guess what? You’ve just started a business. All because you just made a decision to cut through fear and just go.
What is this going to look like for you? What could you do tomorrow to hit your accelerator? Give us your thoughts, share your experiences. We’d love to hear from you!
There is another important decision that you need to make.
And that’s to make a commitment to yourself to to always keep learning and growing.
Which is why I host a monthly web class to help all my students who are committed to being lifelong learners.
This month we have The 500 Million Dollar Secret (one of my favorites). It’s happening soon and is free to attend.

Thank you! Awesome!
I agree. It’s the fear that stops people from taking action. Many people confuse “making a decision” with “just saying”. People, say that they’ve made a decision but as you said, after 1 month they didn’t even take a small action toward their goals.
Well, I think the habits or the past “terrible” experiences are the cause of not taking action. There are people who tried and failed many times and now they are giving up before they even start. Saying “I will start next week” doesn’t work. Usually this “1 week later” turns into 1 year later or never. And it’s all because of the Fear of the failure that turns on our Excuses Making Machine.
I think the problem here is the lack of vision. People get distracted by fears, other people, current circumstances too easy. If they could build a solid and bright enough Vision that can pull them through the Dark Clouds they could have better results with their business and they could have a better lifestyle.
At the end, fear is just imagined safety-net that stops you from reaching the gold.
Anyway, great article Harv! It was a pleasure to read! Shared!
Just what I needed to hear today. I have made a decision and then did very little in that direction for most of the life. When I was younger, I made a decision and then made it happen. I wasn’t afraid. Now, apparently I am.
Yeiks this exact same thing has happened to me.
In fact, making decisions is the most difficult thing in the world for me. It’s even more difficult to keep a decision for a certain period of a time.
Thanks Harv for your interest in this field.
Very powerful insight as usual, thank you T Harv. I like the analogy – the voice of expansion and growth vs the voice of inner brake. Certainly, the former is more empowering while the latter is paralyzing.
Благодарю!
Hi,
First I learned basic knowledge of real estate business from the inside – it took me about 3 months. Three months later, I had my own website, my first clients, and my first income from the business. I know about the voice of doubt firsthand and I think that the best remedy against it is the ACTION. Actions cause questions and a need to answer them, then you start to see more and more opportunities – this is just like a game.
I am working a part-time job that BARELY pays my bills. I’m living paycheck to paycheck. I just started a sales position that’s 100% commission. I feel I could change my life with this job if I gave it 100 % effort, but in a few weeks, when the rent is due, if I haven’t made sales, I’m homeless. This keeps me hanging on to this part-time job, and barely getting by.
I can so relate to this. I was put on sick leave by my doctor However, no work, no pay as a result I am one step ahead of you in that I have already been served with the eviction papers and I am still grappling with whether to return to work that affects my health and way of life negatively or go back to real estate that I know will give me the income flexibility and true choice in my life…
Thanks Harv, for the clear lesson: Deliberately choose to take the empowering choice.
As always, You gets my wheels turning “pun intended ” and I need to get off of the side roads and get on the main road leading to that super highway.
I love your perspective as you open my eyes to new ways of achieving my goals!
Thank you!
I have learnt to decide positive to earn positive
You are always the best! Great writing, down to earth, no bull tell it how it is. A great capture of how the mind is working within most of us – the difference? – you make some humour out of it and, that is why you are the No. 1. Humour when delivering a live, pertinent message always sells; truth hurts so why not post it with a laugh and a wing.
I can relate to this… I decided what i must do and yet along the course i tend to slow down to no actions. I goes back to Fear of something and the “what ifs” & all excuses sets in… How to be consistent in my actions or doing what i want must come from a real strong WHY…. Thanks for the insights!
Its funny and true!
Could you say to Harv this?
I like your voice, your energy, your intention, and when I liten your voice Harv, wow!!! I feel so wonderful.
And I have one idea, could you record your voice with this short awesome reports?
Thanks for your support and wonderful good service.
All the best Harv, from my heart to your heart.
I tend to be a procrastinator but I learned a lot from your blog so far. I am going to take action tonight, one step at a time, and I know that I can do this. Thank you so much for putting these great lessons here, it has helped me a lot.
Tenho um projeto para apresentar o meu chefe, sugerindo mudanças no meu setor e propor um novo modelo de trabalho em meu segmento, mas o medo que tenho é maior, pra chegar e apresentar a idéia.
